Chapter 12: If I Were Green Emperor (2)
Her body was extraordinarily sensitive. Even without using her Divine Sense, she immediately sensed that something was wrong.
It was incredibly hot.
There were two “fireballs” pressed against her back!
In an instant, she spun around, her movements swift.
“Miss Xia!”
Her words almost reached Xia Qingqing’s ears simultaneously with Zhao Haiya’s.
Xia Qingqing felt deeply uncomfortable, being embraced by Bai Lian.
It seemed like…
“Emmm…”
It seemed like those who took the Secret Medicines in the game…
But the problem was, Bai Lian hadn’t done anything.
She kept all her Secret Medicines safe, preparing to present them to Si Yunshang when the time was right for tasting.
“Miss Xia, what’s wrong with you?”
Bai Lian lightly patted Xia Qingqing’s cheek.
Xia Qingqing tried to open her eyes, but her eyelids felt like slabs of iron, too heavy to lift.
Sure enough, it was still impossible.
Yet, she could still feel it.
A cold hand touched her forehead.
The coolness was like a jolt to her system, keeping her from slipping into complete sleep.
Unable to move or speak, Xia Qingqing could only allow Bai Lian to manage her.
Bai Lian felt a pang of sadness.
Wasn’t this the same as “dying before achieving fame”?
Though it hadn’t come to that, it still didn’t look good.
“How could a cultivator at the Golden Core Stage be sick with a cold and fever?”
Murmuring to herself, Bai Lian began to examine Xia Qingqing’s physical condition.
And then came the question…
Bai Lian found nothing!
She even checked Xia Qingqing’s toenails, peering closely to ensure she hadn’t missed anything.
The final conclusion was…
Her toes were very white and round!
Xia Qingqing was perfectly healthy and shouldn’t have a fever.
Bai Lian began to doubt her medical skills.
After all, this was something given to her by the system.
But the system had assured her there were no bugs, so she trusted it.
If Xia Qingqing’s body was normal, then the problem must lie in her soul.
Bai Lian gave Xia Qingqing’s soul a cursory inspection but found nothing unusual.
She couldn’t go any deeper.
On one hand, she couldn’t explore Xia Qingqing’s soul without permission.
On the other, her expertise in the realm of the soul was limited.
“White Emperor Bai Lian,” the turtle called softly, “Is there anything I can help with?”
Zhao Haiya remained silent, merely watching Bai Lian.
He could only rely on her now.
Bai Lian fell into deep thought.
Suddenly, three new tasks appeared before her.
[Task 1: Explore the depths of Xia Qingqing’s soul (Reward: the best-grade Spirit Tool – Light with Dust).]
[Task 2: Take Xia Qingqing into Qingxu (Reward: Soft Skill +12)]
[Task 3: Take Xia Qingqing away from Qingxu (Reward: Light Skill +12)]
Light with Dust was a rare and powerful Spirit Tool that could conceal the user’s body. The risks were something Bai Lian couldn’t manage yet.
She figured she could only challenge this level of task once she reached the Transcendency Stage.
Task 3 had its risks as well.
She had already brought Xia Qingqing to Qingxu. Since the sea monster had set up a trap, would it simply let them go?
Bai Lian’s gaze flickered between Task 2 and Task 3.
The risks were fairly similar.
In the past, she would’ve picked the less risky task, which meant Task 3.
But this time, it felt different.
Her Soft Skill had reached 588 points. With 12 more points, she’d barely meet the standard for the Transcendency Stage.
Bai Lian took a deep breath, exhaling slowly.
It felt like the system was hinting at something through these tasks.
Her gaze landed on Xia Qingqing.
There was no more hesitation.
She had to act.
“I have a bold idea!” Bai Lian declared.
The turtle and Zhao Haiya exchanged puzzled glances.
Bai Lian continued, “Wait here. I’ll take Miss Xia to Qingxu.”
Zhao Haiya hurriedly responded, “I’ll come too…”
Bai Lian interrupted, “If something happens, I can’t care about you.”
Zhao Haiya shook his head. “White Emperor Bai Lian, you don’t need to worry about me.”
Bai Lian stared at him, and he suddenly felt a bit embarrassed. He realized that he had become somewhat willful, losing much of his former composure.
Finally, the turtle stood up and said, “Leave it to me.”
“Okay, if you insist, then I’ll leave it to you!”
Bai Lian took off, flying towards Qingxu with Xia Qingqing in her arms.
Out on the boundless sea, a small island floated, surrounded by mysterious patterns.
Bai Lian stopped at a gap.
This was the entrance to Qingxu.
The place was dark and deep, and from the outside, you couldn’t see the bottom at all.
Without hesitation, Bai Lian dove in headfirst.
Games might be games, and reality might be reality, but there was still a familiar warmth, as though she had returned home.
She looked down at Xia Qingqing, who was still confused. “I remember there are many spiritual plants in Qingxu that can extend your life. These might help you recover. I’ll get them for you later. As long as we avoid the old demons in Qingxu, there shouldn’t be any…”
As they walked through the passage, Bai Lian was stunned when she stepped onto the jade-green earth.
Xia Qingqing’s body suddenly stopped feeling hot.
It didn’t just stop burning; it turned green.
Her hands, her feet, even her hair—everything turned green!
On closer inspection, it was a beam of light, filled with countless bright white specks.
Just the scent of it made Bai Lian feel rejuvenated.
It was the breath of life!
“…”
Bai Lian raised her head and saw countless white streams appear in Qingxu.
It looked just like the scene she had recreated with the [Past Master].
The white streams came from all directions and converged into Xia Qingqing’s body.
Bai Lian slowly let go of Xia Qingqing.
The wind began to rise.
With Xia Qingqing floating in mid-air at the center, the vibration spread rapidly throughout Qingxu.
All the cultivators who were exploring Qingxu stopped in their tracks.
They turned around and gazed upward, staring blankly at the white streaks of light racing through the sky.
“What happened?”
Some people knew the answer.
For example, the sea monster and the merperson.
After days of anxious waiting, a smile finally appeared on their faces.
But that smile was fleeting.
This was just the beginning, the real battle had yet to come.
The ground beneath them began to tremble—so strongly that ordinary people could barely stay on their feet.
Then, a huge crack appeared on the ground.
It widened as the tremors continued, eventually stretching to about three meters in width before they stopped.
Bai Lian gazed beyond the cracks.
There was a road beneath her feet, but the dense fog limited visibility to only a few meters, making it impossible to know where the road would lead.
But after a quick glance at Xia Qingqing, who had quietly left her side, Bai Lian knew.
This road was the one between the black water and the blue water.
There was a tree there. Its name was Ruomu.
“I’m back again.”
Xia Qingqing’s voice echoed in Bai Lian’s ear, yet it felt oddly distant.
Bai Lian turned around, realizing she had been right after all.
With a smile, she approached Xia Qingqing. “Miss Xia, do you remember?”
Xia Qingqing smiled shyly, a softness in her expression.
It was unlike any smile Bai Lian had ever seen on her before.
Xia Qingqing replied, “It can’t be said that I remember them. I just gather up the things that were left behind.”
Bai Lian nodded.
Xia Qingqing probably knew something, but there were many things that remained unclear.
Bai Lian had always enjoyed guessing, but she didn’t consider her guesses to be truth.
She no longer needed to worry about these things.
Xia Qingqing took her first step.
She had arrived here.
She had walked this road before, in her dreams. Now, she had to walk it again.
As they moved forward, Bai Lian held her hand.
Xia Qingqing turned in surprise.
It was cold.
It felt like Bai Lian was dragging a corpse.
This was nothing like what Xia Qingqing had imagined.
But still, the sound of Bai Lian’s voice was the one she loved.
“You’re still weak. Let me lead you.”
“Okay.”
Just one word.
One promise.
Suddenly, the sound of waves filled the air from outside.
Bai Lian held Xia Qingqing’s hand and walked into the fog.
