Chapter 11: The Path of the Immortal Emperor (2)
Xia Qingqing opened her eyes again.
This was a foreign world, shrouded in thick fog, with visibility of no more than ten meters.
If not for the sound of rushing water colliding against massive rocks, she might have wandered straight into the river.
“Where is this?”
Panic surged within her.
Just moments ago, she had been inside the cabin, sighing and rubbing her chest. How had she suddenly arrived in this unfamiliar place?
Was this an illusion?
Or had she been taken away?
“Bai Lian!”
Desperate, she called out Bai Lian’s name, but only her own echo answered back.
Though the world was vast, it felt as if she was the only one left.
Fear weakened her legs, but she forced herself forward—staying in place wouldn’t help.
“Bai Lian!”
She continued calling out as she stumbled onward.
Just as she struggled to climb a two-meter-high precipice, a distant and ethereal voice echoed through the mist.
“Go back…”
The sound resonated endlessly, like a temple bell.
Xia Qingqing crouched down, covering her ears.
She wanted to go back, but where was back?
Home?
Gone.
Parents?
They were no more.
“Get up.”
A familiar female voice rang out from above.
Instantly, the chilling air around her dissipated.
Xia Qingqing hesitantly removed her hands from her ears.
Her tense body gradually relaxed.
Excitedly, she lifted her head.
A shadowy figure stood before her, hand extended.
The fog had thickened, obscuring the person’s face, but it didn’t matter.
Just by observing the shape of those long legs and the contours of the chest, she knew.
“Bai Lian! I knew you would come for me!”
Reaching out, she grasped the offered hand.
A smile curled at the corners of her lips—tears glimmered within it.
The moment their fingers interlocked, the figure pulled her up.
“Follow me, and don’t let go.”
“Mm.”
Warmth.
That was Xia Qingqing’s strongest impression.
Her hands felt as if they were melting, fusing into Bai Lian’s.
The environment was still terrifying, but with Bai Lian here, she was no longer afraid.
The path ahead was rough, yet with Bai Lian leading, exhaustion never set in.
The fog remained thick, yet with Bai Lian beside her, she no longer feared getting lost.
Time passed.
Ahead, a mountain loomed, a small opening carved into its side, faint light seeping through.
Bai Lian spoke again.
“Here we are.”
Xia Qingqing nodded shyly.
She never could have reached this place alone.
Then let’s go.
Hand in hand, they stepped into the light.
At that moment, Bai Lian suddenly released her.
“Bai Lian, you…”
Xia Qingqing froze.
She turned back, reaching out, but Bai Lian stepped away—just out of reach.
“Go back. You have done enough.”
Xia Qingqing staggered as she was gently pushed.
Before she could react, she was falling.
“I have done enough…?”
Her hand remained outstretched.
She watched as Bai Lian drifted farther and farther away, until even her silhouette faded into the mist.
“Bai Lian!”
She screamed, grasping at empty air—
Until her fingers found something soft.
“Bai Lian!”
Her eyes flew open.
And there, before her, was Bai Lian!
Puff—
Xia Qingqing exhaled sharply, her anxious expression melting into a smile.
But in the next instant—
Bai Lian seized her wrist, gripping it like a vice.
“You’re awake.”
“I… I hurt,” Xia Qingqing whispered.
Bai Lian’s expression darkened.
“You hurt? I hurt more!”
Xia Qingqing blinked in confusion, then glanced down—
Only to freeze.
Somehow, her right hand had landed firmly on Bai Lian’s chest.
“I-I’m sorry!”
Flustered, she yanked her hand back.
But Bai Lian was livid.
She had worried something had happened, only to find Xia Qingqing in perfect condition—and groping her?!
“Oh, you little—”
With a smirk, Bai Lian grabbed Xia Qingqing’s wrist again.
“Since you’re so eager, why don’t you ‘practice’ properly?”
And just like that—
They began a rather unexpected “chest exercise.”
Xia Qingqing’s face turned crimson.
She had experimented on herself before, but it never felt like this.
Perhaps it was because Bai Lian was watching her.
Perhaps it was because Bai Lian was guiding her step-by-step.
Either way, her entire body trembled with tension.
Dying.
She felt as though Bai Lian had pierced right through her soul, draining her of all strength.
Pa!
She collapsed onto the floor with a crisp thud.
She was sweating.
She was done.
“No… don’t…”
Tears welled in her eyes as she gazed at Bai Lian pitifully.
“I was wrong. I can’t do it anymore.”
Hmph.
Bai Lian finally relented, flicking her forehead.
“Don’t do to others what you don’t want done to you!”
“Yes…”
Xia Qingqing hung her head.
So… she could only seek Bai Lian’s guidance when she wanted to?
Fine. Lesson learned.
With a flick of her wrist, Bai Lian cast a spell, banishing the sweat from Xia Qingqing’s body.
Then, she got to the point.
“What happened to you just now? I called you for a long time before you woke up.”
For a moment, Bai Lian had feared the worst.
But Xia Qingqing had been physically fine. Not only that, her soul energy had surged dramatically.
Xia Qingqing hesitated before recounting her experience.
Bai Lian frowned.
“I led you out of the fog?”
That was impossible.
“Maybe I just heard your voice,” Xia Qingqing murmured.
Bai Lian nodded, deep in thought.
This girl… she definitely had a secret.
As she stood, she pulled Xia Qingqing up as well.
That simple gesture left Xia Qingqing speechless.
It was exactly the same as in her dream.
“We’ve arrived. Let’s go outside.”
“Oh…”
Following Bai Lian, Xia Qingqing stepped out into the open air.
Something had changed within her.
Her special bloodline—
It was withering away.
Was it really related to that dream?
She had no answer.
But one phrase lingered in her mind:
“You have done enough.”
She hesitated, wondering if she should tell Bai Lian.
Before she could decide, a voice interrupted her thoughts.
“No one is here.”
Zhao Haiya scanned the empty landscape, the mountain breeze whistling past.
Bai Lian narrowed her eyes.
With her [Past Master] ability, she replayed the past.
A group of people had been here recently.
Was Xia Qingqing’s mother among them?
No way to know.
As the Cloud Chasing Boat soared towards a safe location, shocking news spread across East Divine Land—
[Xia Guiyuan, long missing, has resurfaced!]
“???”
Bai Lian immediately turned to Si Yunshang, who was well-informed.
No one knew what Xia Guiyuan intended to do—only that he had been sighted once near the Flying Fog and once near Qingxu.
“I want to see it!”
Xia Qingqing looked up, locking eyes with Bai Lian.
At that moment, a new task appeared before Bai Lian’s eyes.
[Task 1: Let Xia Qingqing go (Reward: Hard Skill +13)]
[Task 2: Stop Xia Qingqing (Reward: +1 Light Skill)]
Even without careful analysis, it was obvious that something was amiss.
Before Bai Lian could make a decision, Zhao Haiya stepped forward to dissuade Xia Qingqing.
“Martial Sister Xia, there must be something strange about this matter. In my opinion, it would be wiser to take a long-term view.”
Xia Qingqing shook her head.
The moment she heard those two place names, an inexplicable wave of emotions surged within her, yet instead of overwhelming her, they brought an eerie calm.
She was no longer weak.
She was no longer afraid.
“Martial Brother Zhao, I understand, but I have to go.”
Then, she turned and looked at Bai Lian.
