Chapter 11: The Path of the Immortal Emperor (1)
What is in the depths of the ocean?
It’s another beautiful world!
Deep in the boundless sea, there should be a dark and dismal world with no daylight. The deep-sea creatures living here should also be very unique.
But the opposite is true.
The gentle white light illuminated a ten-mile radius. From afar, it appeared as a big, white, and round ball!
There was not a single drop of water within the sphere of light. Soft sand supported various plants that could be found in the outside world. Occasionally, a spotted leopard cat could be seen lazily strolling through the shrubs and grass.
This was clearly a paradise hidden deep within the sea!
Suddenly, the sea monster appeared outside the glowing sphere.
Its massive body trembled.
Bai Lian had struck deeply at its weak point!
Although it was enormous, once its vulnerability was exposed, it became as timid and fragile as any ordinary being.
The sea monster now only felt the water was too cold—so cold that it wanted to retract its head back into its body. Nevertheless, it was an experienced and ancient creature. Though Bai Lian’s raised middle finger had momentarily flustered it, the sea monster quickly regained composure.
After all, it had survived through an era of darkness to the present.
Feeling the warmth within the white light, the sea monster calmed down.
“Changing fate” was not just an empty phrase.
Although Bai Lian was an Immortal Emperor, she had lived in the Immortal World in her past life. Now that she had come to this small world, she had to abide by its rules.
No being within a small world could exceed the power of a Human Immortal. This was a law inscribed by the Great Tao itself.
Unless one was stronger than the Great Tao, this restriction could not be broken.
Obviously, Bai Lian—who was “only” an Immortal Emperor—did not yet have that ability.
There had been rumors that the Green Emperor had power comparable to an Earth Immortal. The sea monster, having personally lived through that dark era, scoffed at such claims.
“What a joke!”
After all, the Green Emperor’s strength stemmed from Ruomu. Though Ruomu was formidable, it was debatable whether it could match an Immortal Emperor’s power—let alone allow the Green Emperor to break the world’s limitations.
Still, the Green Emperor was undoubtedly powerful.
With her nearly limitless regeneration, even ordinary Immortals could not defeat her. She had single-handedly transformed the frost-covered North Luzhou into a land of green grass and blooming flowers.
Until she relinquished her throne and vanished from the world, North Luzhou remained a place of eternal spring. Only after her departure did it gradually return to its original state.
The sea monster’s original plan had been to find Ruomu and absorb its essence, then ascend to the Immortal World and become a Demigod revered by all.
But now that Bai Lian had discovered its presence, it had no choice but to change its strategy.
“Speed is crucial now.”
The sea monster muttered to itself.
The longer it delayed, the stronger Bai Lian would become. Soon, there would be no chance to face her at all.
If it attacked now with all its might, it might still have a chance to kill her.
A crack suddenly appeared on the glowing sphere.
Clatter—
The ocean currents surged, and the sea monster immediately slipped into the crack.
It ventured into the depths of that tranquil paradise. A faint shimmer flickered before it, and a merperson slowly emerged.
“You’ve arrived.”
The sea monster nodded slightly.
It had come.
It had come with a desperate yearning to break free from the shackles of fate.
This world once belonged to the sea monsters.
The East Divine Land, North Luzhou, and countless overseas islands had once bowed before the might of the Sea Emperor.
That era had lasted ten thousand years.
Only thanks to the efforts of a few powerful cultivators from the previous age had the human race managed to carve out a foothold against the sea monsters’ onslaught.
At the time, the sea monsters had barely considered humans a threat.
By their calculations, within five thousand years, the human race would be extinct—completely reduced to food for the sea.
But then the Green Emperor appeared.
This woman, favored by fate, walked along a river and eventually arrived at Ruomu.
Ten years later, she emerged, carrying a branch of Ruomu, and set out eastward.
The sea monsters fiercely resisted her, yet they were still effortlessly slain.
Finally, on the shores of the East Sea, the Green Emperor faced the furious Sea Emperor.
It was a night of brilliant stars.
And the battle was over in an instant.
The Sea Emperor, as before, hurled its crown into the heavens, hoping to suppress the Green Emperor with this natural treasure.
But the Green Emperor simply tossed the Ruomu branch into the sea.
The branch landed atop the Sea Emperor.
A blue radiance engulfed the world.
The branch fell like a divine seal from the heavens.
In that moment, the boundless sea seemed bewitched, the waves frozen in absolute stillness.
The Sea Emperor struggled wildly within the blue light.
But it was futile.
It could only watch helplessly as its head split apart.
Then its power, its legacy, and its very existence—
All vanished in a flash of green-blue radiance.
That day, the great flood that had engulfed the East Divine Land receded.
The era of the sea monsters ended.
That day was over 113,000 years ago.
Back at the ruins of the Tianji Sect.
Xia Qingqing and Zhao Haiya had waited anxiously for a long time without any word from Bai Lian.
“Could something have happened to her?”
Xia Qingqing paced in circles, making Zhao Haiya dizzy.
Zhao Haiya tried to reassure her. “Martial Sister Xia, White Emperor Bai Lian is extremely powerful. She will be fine.”
Yet, Xia Qingqing remained uneasy.
Just as she was about to rush off to find Bai Lian, a figure suddenly flew in from the outside.
“We need to leave. Now.”
Bai Lian’s expression was grave.
Her gaze lingered briefly on Xia Qingqing before shifting away.
Xia Qingqing lowered her head and softly replied, “Okay.”
Bai Lian summoned the Cloud Chasing Boat. She wasn’t sure if the sea monster would pursue them, but it was better to put as much distance between them as possible.
A wise woman knew when to retreat.
“Just wait. I’ll be back in two years to kill you.”
Carrying Xia Qingqing, Bai Lian flew westward for tens of thousands of miles before finally stopping.
Under the bright sunlight, Zhao Haiya approached Bai Lian.
“White Emperor Bai Lian, do you know who destroyed the Tianji Sect?”
Bai Lian shook her head. “I only saw a phantom. It seemed to be a sea monster.”
Zhao Haiya was stunned. “A sea monster?”
He couldn’t recall the Tianji Sect ever making enemies with one.
“That doesn’t matter now,” Bai Lian said. “Do you know where the Teleportation Magic Array leads? If any survivors escaped, they must have used it.”
Zhao Haiya nodded and pulled out a map, marking a spot.
“I’ll show you.”
Bai Lian sighed. She needed to keep Xia Qingqing from recklessly seeking vengeance. Right now, her priority was helping her find her mother.
“Thank you, Bai Lian.”
Tears shimmered in Xia Qingqing’s eyes.
Bai Lian hesitated, then gently ruffled her hair.
“Get some rest. I’ll wake you when we arrive.”
“Hmm.”
Xia Qingqing tucked herself into the cabin.
The flight of the Cloud Chasing Boat was incredibly steady, gliding through the air without the slightest tremor. Thanks to the protective magic array, even the wind couldn’t be heard.
In such a still and silent environment, an unsettling emptiness crept into her heart.
There was no light here.
The outside light couldn’t reach within.
She gently pressed her hand against her chest.
Her heart was still beating—softly, rhythmically—yet she felt as if she had lost something vital, something that anchored her to the world.
What is a root?
An abstract concept, perhaps.
Maybe it’s a home. Maybe it’s a hometown. Maybe it’s the past, a life that once was.
Or maybe…
It’s a tree.
