Chapter 6: Despicable!
“I don’t know!”
Bai Lian’s honest reply made Xiao Jinse feel confused.
She had become very sensitive after years of being bullied. If Bai Lian had just saved her, she would have thought it was the benevolence of the kind-hearted Fairy Bai Lian. However, Bai Lian said that the Duxian Sect had taken a fancy to her three years ago, and it was hard for her not to imagine that there was some “conspiracy” here.
One couldn’t blame Xiao Jinse for overthinking. In fact, the world lacked many things, except waste!
Even if her Obsolete Spiritual Root were repaired, her talent wasn’t very good. Bai Lian didn’t need to come all the way here to take her back.
Xiao Jinse had many doubts, but she didn’t dare to ask. Fairy Bai Lian’s attitude was obvious: refuse to elaborate! She was a Nascent Soul Stage cultivator! Even if Xiao Jinse wanted to kill herself in front of Bai Lian, she wouldn’t succeed, let alone run away.
Xiao Jinse felt worried. The only thing that made her feel at ease was that Bai Lian was female. She wouldn’t be greedy for her body like the two evil cultivators were.
Alas, Xiao Jinse couldn’t cheer up. In fact, the most painful thing in the cultivation world wasn’t being defiled by others—it was the self-torture of the soul that was most terrible.
Why was she always targeted?
“Younger martial sister, is there anything else you want to ask?” Bai Lian asked.
Xiao Jinse shook her head.
“Then let’s go,” Bai Lian said, laughing.
Under Bai Lian’s Flying Sword Skill, the sword lay flat on the ground. She had noticed that her second martial sister wasn’t used to flying with the sword. Even when led, Xiao Jinse’s body couldn’t stop tilting left and right.
Bai Lian had asked the second martial sister to use her hand as a “guard rail,” but she still couldn’t balance.
There was no other way.
“I’ll carry you on my back.”
“Ah?”
Before Xiao Jinse could react, her hands were involuntarily around Bai Lian’s neck. Her little thumb brushed the icicle-like clavicle, making her body suddenly tremble.
“It takes two days to fly to the Duxian Sect,” Bai Lian explained. “Younger martial sister, you haven’t cultivated yet. I fear it would be very uncomfortable to fly such a long distance.”
Recalling scenes from the game, and worried that Xiao Jinse might misunderstand her intentions, she felt compelled to explain. The second martial sister was very young, but her body was mature. Just carrying her brought Bai Lian a strong sense of pressure.
“Yes,” Xiao Jinse squeezed out in a thin, mosquito-like voice as she watched the sword rise.
Bai Lian smiled and made hand seals with her right hand. In a moment, an invisible water film wrapped around them both.
“The faster we fly, the greater the wind resistance,” Bai Lian said. “Beyond a certain speed, there will even be a sonic boom. If I were alone, I wouldn’t go through the trouble. But with you, it’s better to add a protective shield…”
Xiao Jinse remained silent.
After a long while, Bai Lian asked tentatively, “Younger martial sister, are you angry?”
“…”
“I don’t look down on you, younger martial sister, but…” Bai Lian began, then paused.
A quiet “I’m not angry” sounded from behind her.
Relieved, Bai Lian began introducing the Duxian Sect to her younger martial sister.
“The Duxian Sect has five main peaks: The Qiongming Peak, The Zhuyan Peak, The Yunluo Peak, The Qingyu Peak, and The Qingming Peak. Our master, An Lan, is the leading master of The Qiongming Peak. Now there are only us three on the Qiongming Peak, plus a rabbit.”
“In the whole of the East Divine Land, the Duxian Sect is not among the top sects, but neither is it a small sect that others can bully.”
“And…”
Bai Lian’s voice trailed off. Xiao Jinse had fallen asleep on her back, chin resting on Bai Lian’s slender shoulder, her warm breath like a moist tendril invading the light blue fabric, gently caressing.
Who could endure this?!
If not for the sword hanging above her head, Bai Lian would have imitated the plot from the game!
She hurriedly used the Heart Clearing Spell to calm herself.
Her flickering long, thin eyelashes gradually steadied. As night fell, the stars in the corner of her eyes emitted trance-like lights.
Xiao Jinse opened her misty eyes.
She felt as soft as mud.
After the extreme relaxation, her heart immediately sounded an alarm. How could she fall asleep when the situation was unknown?
Xiao Jinse suddenly felt worried.
She struggled to rise and found herself lying on a rattan bed with paper curtains, a large wooden bucket steaming in the middle of the room.
The door squeaked open and Bai Lian entered.
“Younger martial sister, take off your clothes.”
“Ah?”
Xiao Jinse shrank into the corner of the bed, hurriedly covering her chest with her hands.
“Fairy… Bai Lian, what are you doing?”
As Bai Lian prepared to explain, three new task options appeared before her:
[Task 1: Force your younger martial sister to bathe with you. (Reward: A top-grade Ice Stone)]
[Task 2: Pretend to want to rub your younger martial sister’s back while harboring evil intentions. (Reward: An aphrodisiac potion, “Different World”)]
[Task 3: Tell the truth. (Reward: Focus +1)]
How could she do such evil things?
Bai Lian immediately rejected the system’s temptation and said righteously, “When I checked into the inn, I noticed many scars on your hands. This medicinal bath can help remove them and relieve fatigue. I regret I’m not better at alchemy, or this wouldn’t be so troublesome.”
She smiled bitterly and shook her head.
Xiao Jinse blinked, seeing only integrity in Bai Lian.
Though Bai Lian was clearly lean, her image suddenly grew tall in Xiao Jinse’s heart.
The girl couldn’t help but reproach herself. Perhaps she had been too sensitive and had misunderstood the good intentions of Bai Lian and the Duxian Sect.
Taking a deep breath, Xiao Jinse gathered her courage and said, “Fairy Bai Lian, I know you mean well, but I don’t want to remove these scars yet.”
“Why?” Bai Lian asked.
“I want to use them to warn myself,” Xiao Jinse said slowly.
Bai Lian froze for a moment.
This detail had never appeared in the game. She had always thought the scars on her second martial sister’s body were left by the game’s version of Bai Lian during those abnormal “games.”
“Very well,” she said. “I’ll change the water for you. Go to bed early after your bath. We must start early tomorrow.”
Xiao Jinse’s eyes filled with apology for wasting Bai Lian’s kindness.
Later, Xiao Jinse undressed and stepped into the water. As warmth enveloped her naked form, she couldn’t help crying. Her voice made Bai Lian, who stood guard outside, gain another point of Focus.
“Should I practice Buddhism?” Bai Lian pondered seriously.
Suddenly, Xiao Jinse called from inside, “Fairy Bai Lian, we’re going to the Duxian Sect, aren’t we? Why are we here?”
“We’ll rest for a day and leave tomorrow. Though my Spirit Qi could get us to the Duxian Sect in one journey, we shouldn’t fly while tired…” Bai Lian began lecturing about the dangers of traveling while fatigued. “Younger martial sister, remember: people have limits. Don’t push yourself too hard when in danger!”
Xiao Jinse nodded vaguely.
She knew little about cultivation, but Fairy Bai Lian was truly kind. Though clearly a superior immortal, she spoke to Xiao Jinse as gently as if addressing her own daughter.
Moonlight danced on the water, falling into the wooden barrel and reflecting off Xiao Jinse’s smooth skin.
She would remember what Bai Lian had told her:
“You may have fallen now, become part of the mortal world, but one day your glory will cover the whole world!”
The next afternoon, Bai Lian returned to the Duxian Sect.
On the stairway to the mountain gate, she met Wen Ren Ya Le.
The girl’s face was gloomy, her eyelids slightly swollen.
Leading the trembling Xiao Jinse to Wen Ren Ya Le, Bai Lian smiled and said, “Hello, Martial Sister Wen Ren Ya Le.”
“Congratulations to Martial Sister Bai Lian for breaking through to the Nascent Soul Stage!” Wen Ren Ya Le replied without warmth.
“Ah?”
Bai Lian was confused. When had she broken through to the Nascent Soul Stage?
From the exclamations around her, Bai Lian learned this rumor had spread from Castle Peak City.
Damn it. Would they die if they didn’t spread rumors?!
“Though I’m still one step from breaking through to the Golden Core Stage,” Wen Ren Ya Le said through clenched teeth, “one day I will catch up to you, Martial Sister Bai Lian!”
Well, this…
I’m only in the Foundation Establishment Stage, why are you glaring at me? Go find The Dragon King Descendant!
As Bai Lian tried to explain, new task options appeared:
[Task 1: Walk past Wen Ren Ya Le with a sneer and say, “You?” (Reward: A top-grade magic tool named “The Shuttle of Stars”)]
[Task 2: Ignore Wen Ren Ya Le (Reward: A spirit herb called “Red Flame Grass”)]
[Task 3: Try to reason with Wen Ren Ya Le (Reward: The drawing of “Spirit Refining Circle”)]
Eh?
Bai Lian was confused. What was wrong with Task 3? Why wasn’t it offering her favorite reward, attribute points?!
The system must be bugged!!!
[Don’t try to reason with angry women.]
Reading the system’s explanation, Bai Lian nearly cried. Now she understood.
Despicable!
The prejudice in people’s minds weighed as heavy as mountains!
How had she gotten caught up with Wen Ren Ya Le? It was all because of those people spreading rumors that she was a Natural Saint!
Bai Lian chose Task 2 and walked past Wen Ren Ya Le with a smile.
