Chapter 420: Are You Secretly in Love?
Europa, Hospital Ward.
“So… all of this actually happened?”
Michelle listened intently as Alena recounted the events in vivid detail, her expression a mixture of disbelief and curiosity.
She had always assumed the heroic spirit she summoned was someone long dead. But now, to learn they were alive—or perhaps only partially dead? The distinction felt both subtle and mind-boggling.
Michelle quickly decided not to dwell on such complexities. What mattered most was the joy of the moment:
First, Alena was safe.
Second, Alena had met the person she longed to see.
And third, Michelle herself had met Mr. Devil.
Three layers of happiness stacked together—it was almost overwhelming.
Michelle didn’t even try to connect the golden figure Alena described with Mr. Devil anymore. Clearly, they weren’t the same person.
After all, Mr. Devil was from the Ming Country, with a distinctly Eastern appearance. The person Alena described, however, was undeniably European. No amount of magic or sorcery could transform an Eastern man into a Westerner—not even in the wildest fairy tales.
But Michelle couldn’t shake the feeling that Bai Wei and this mysterious figure might know each other.
Perhaps everything Mr. Devil mastered—the Golden Engraving, the golden resin, and the golden seeds—had been taught or gifted to him by this person. Their connection seemed undeniable.
Alena broke her train of thought. “This is the only remaining golden bloodline in Europa now.”
Michelle nodded cautiously. “Then we absolutely cannot let anyone else know.”
Alena raised a finger to her lips. “Exactly. If this secret gets out, it could spell disaster. The golden family isn’t just any royal lineage; they once ruled with an iron grip for a thousand years. People have every reason to fear them.”
Michelle’s mind was racing. She needed to discuss this with Mr. Devil.
But Alena had her own thoughts. “You know,” she mused, “your Golden Engraving might be connected to him too.”
Michelle gave a noncommittal nod. “It’s possible… but I don’t know who he is.”
“I’ll find out,” Alena said confidently, her eyes glinting with determination. “I’m looking forward to meeting him again.”
Michelle couldn’t help but laugh. “Look forward to it, sure. But don’t get too attached—you’ve only met him twice!”
Alena smirked and looked down at the sketch she had made. “More than twice now.”
Michelle groaned, putting her hand on her forehead. “Hopeless. That expression… Alena, you look like you’re smitten. Please wake up.”
Alena shrugged. “I’m not smitten. I’m just… a little captivated.”
“Captivated?” Michelle asked, raising an eyebrow. “Because he saved you twice? Or because you can’t seem to draw his face perfectly?”
“No,” Alena replied firmly. “I just feel lucky. After all, I’ve been given a second chance at life.”
Michelle sighed. “Well, don’t go thinking you’re the heroine in a romance novel. People like that don’t exist in real life.”
Alena laughed softly. “Michelle, I’m not delusional. I’m just grateful. But… I am serious about confessing my feelings.”
Michelle froze. “What?! Confess your feelings? To him?”
Alena nodded. “Yes. Why not?”
“You’ve only met twice!” Michelle protested.
“And that’s why I need to confess first.” Alena’s tone was light, but her determination was evident.
Michelle threw her hands up in exasperation. “What if he rejects you?”
“Then I’ll try again,” Alena said confidently. “If life teaches us anything, it’s that you have to take risks. What if it works out?”
Michelle slumped in her chair. “This is madness.”
Alena leaned forward, her voice softening. “Michelle, I can’t sit around waiting for certainty. Life is too short for that.”
Her words struck a chord with Michelle, who sat silently, lost in her own thoughts.
Was Alena right? Should she be bolder about her own feelings for Mr. Devil?
Alena didn’t press further. Instead, she took a deep breath, her cheeks flushed with color. “So… I’ve made up my mind. I’m going to confess.”
Michelle managed a weak smile. “Well, you’ve got that lovestruck glow now. It’s… kind of lovely.”
Alena grinned. “Really? Thanks. You know, I’ve seen you with that same look before.”
“What?” Michelle blinked. “Me?”
“Yes,” Alena teased. “When you’re alone, walking around or studying, you get this dreamy smile. It’s adorable.”
Michelle blushed furiously. “I… I do not!”
Alena chuckled, pulling out a pencil and sketching Michelle’s face. In a few moments, she held up a drawing that perfectly captured her friend’s dreamy expression.
Michelle stared at it, horrified. “I don’t look like that!”
Alena laughed, her eyes twinkling. “You do. And it’s lovely.”
Michelle couldn’t help but smile, despite herself.
And then, out of nowhere, Alena asked, “So… are you secretly dating someone behind my back?”
