Chapter 287: A Great Show Begins
“Uh-oh, I’ve turned into an abductor,” Bai Wei muttered, helplessly looking at the young dragon. “What should I do?”
“Yes, what should we do?” Nana asked with innocent eyes.
Bai Wei rubbed his forehead and crouched down. “Come up.”
Nana easily climbed onto Bai Wei’s back and perched on his shoulders.
“Don’t pull my hair,” Bai Wei warned. “And don’t touch my ears either.”
The young girl grasped Bai Wei’s head with her small hands and chirped, “Okay, let’s go, let’s go find Auntie!”
As Bai Wei and Nana laughed and chatted, Fish Mother’s expression darkened. Her voice carried, summoning the guards of the Dragon Palace.
In the vast Dragon Palace, there were always over ten thousand guards stationed. Soon, a small group of aquatic creatures gathered, led by a demon captain.
“What’s going on?” the captain asked.
“It’s like this,” Fish Mother hurriedly explained, adding embellishments to the story in a low voice.
The demon glanced at Bai Wei, his gaze icy. “Please hand over the little princess and come with us,” he said sternly.
Bai Wei asked, “Nana, do you want to go with them?”
Nana pouted and exclaimed, “No!”
Bai Wei nodded. “Then I won’t either.”
The demon was silent.
One of the nearby guards whispered, “This person seems to have an intelligence problem. Could there be a mistake?”
The demon replied, “It is dangerous to have intelligence problems. Let’s be careful and avoid harming the little princess.”
The guards hesitated, not daring to draw their weapons. After all, Bai Wei was carrying the little princess on his shoulder, and even the slightest injury would be a grave offense, punishable by a lifetime in prison.
They advanced with empty hands, their muscular frames imposing. “Please cooperate with us.”
Bai Wei looked at the demon and said, “I suggest you go find Ao Hanli.”
The demon removed his arm armor. “I’ll deal with you first, it won’t take long.”
“If you continue like this, I may have to resist,” Bai Wei warned. “I’m quite strong, you know.”
“Oh? Then let me give it a try,” the demon said confidently. “I’ve been the runner-up in the East Sea Martial Arts Competition for three consecutive years!”
“Who’s the champion?” Bai Wei asked, curious.
The demon shouted, “Behave yourself and surrender peacefully!”
Confident in his martial arts prowess, the demon felt secure. The East Sea culture valued martial skill, influenced by the Ming Country’s emphasis on strength.
The other guards respected the principles of martial virtue, not advancing any further but instead dispersing, not intending to intervene.
The demon launched forward with explosive power. Their bodies collided, the force of their arms meeting in a grapple. But as they tried to overpower Bai Wei, the demon realized something—his hold felt like grasping solid iron.
What was this feeling?
It was as though he was grabbing a steel pillar. Bai Wei’s joints were rigid, as if his entire body was forged from unyielding metal.
Bai Wei clenched his fist, the golden gears in his bones tightening. His body was encased in an invisible, unbreakable armor, a seamless unity that resisted the demon’s strength.
Despite the demon’s forceful exertion, Bai Wei remained unshaken.
“It’s my turn now,” Bai Wei said calmly.
The demon raised his head, just as a fist the size of a dumbbell came crashing down toward him. The demon instinctively ducked, narrowly avoiding the punch. The gust of wind from the strike caused a sharp pain in his ears. Before he could react, Bai Wei’s fist transformed into a sword-hand strike, hitting his shoulder with brutal force. The impact left his shoulder numb, and one of his hands went completely limp. Tight muscle tension followed, making him feel like a kitten being gripped by the scruff.
With his balance shattered, Bai Wei swiftly grabbed the back of his neck and kicked him, sending him flying like a bowling ball into the nearby bushes. The demon lay motionless for a solid ten seconds.
“Oh!” Nana clapped her hands excitedly. “That was amazing!”
The underwater guards grimaced, unsure where the little princess’s loyalty truly lay.
Fish Mother shouted urgently, “What are you still waiting for? Hurry up and go!”
The guards exchanged worried glances. They knew traditional martial arts principles wouldn’t work against this man, so they rushed forward as a group.
…
Ao Hanli found Xue Hanlei and Yun Wuxin enjoying a meal in the restaurant, exchanging quiet words. The sisters, who hadn’t seen each other in years, were now hastily parting ways.
Dragons lived long lives, and farewells didn’t weigh on them much.
Ao Hanli didn’t see Bai Wei and was about to ask when the guards hurried past her. She frowned and asked, “What’s going on?”
“Nana has been taken away. We’re going to rescue her.”
“Taken away?” Ao Hanli’s face betrayed her disbelief. “Are you joking?”
This was the East Sea Dragon Palace, akin to a country’s capital, perhaps even more significant. Taking a dragon hatchling captive here was like kidnapping the royal family from Buckingham Palace. It was unthinkable.
Yun Wuxin, the celestial being, glanced subtly at Ao Hanli, her expression unreadable. “I’ve never seen a world like this.”
Xue Hanlei, ever cheerful, could only laugh nervously. “Hahaha… hiccup… hahaha…”
Ao Hanli placed a hand to her forehead. “What are you all doing? Where are the other guards?”
The water clan guard lowered his head. “The opponents are engaged in fierce combat with the guards. They keep charging, colliding, and we couldn’t stop them…”
Ao Hanli fumed. “Are you all useless as the defenders of the Heavenly Realm? How could you let this happen? How many of them are there?”
“One.”
“One army? How did they manage to come to the Dragon Palace?”
“One person,” the guard replied awkwardly.
Ao Hanli’s anger ebbed, replaced by curiosity. “I want to see who exactly dares to cause such chaos in my East Sea Dragon Palace. I’ll go find out.”
Xue Hanlei raised her hand. “Let’s go together! Come along, even if you’re reluctant.”
Yun Wuxin stared at the empty space ahead, a strange anticipation rising within her.
She nodded. If it turned out as she suspected, she might join the chaos unfolding in the Dragon Palace. Bai Wei may act recklessly, but there’s always logic behind his actions. Ming Country people don’t deceive one another, and it’s wrong for fellow countrymen to speak ill of each other.
…
Bai Wei continued his advance, encountering wave after wave of Dragon Palace guards. Their numbers seemed endless, like chives growing back after being cut. As one wave fell, another emerged.
He wasn’t using much force. If he broke any bones, the medical costs would be astronomical. And with the little princess happily sitting on his shoulder, clapping and cheering, the guards didn’t dare to escalate the situation.
It was almost like they were playing along, neither side taking it seriously. But some guards couldn’t hide their anxiety.
Bai Wei pressed on, heading toward his target: the Dragon Palace hospital, following the simple directions of an exclamation mark.
Hundreds of guards couldn’t stop him. It’s no wonder the sea creatures were beginning to panic.
“What should we do? He’s coming!”
“What’s the rush! What difference does it make? We’re just doing our job.”
“But, what if he finds out? What will we do?” Fish Mother’s face tightened. “I’ve warned you too many times!”
The aquatic creature in the white coat chuckled coldly. “Blaming me now? You agreed to this plan, claiming you were about to retire. You took the opportunity for a little extra profit. So, don’t pretend like you didn’t know!”
“Actually, it was you who pulled me into this,” Fish Mother snapped. “This isn’t the time to bring it up! Think of a solution!”
“I’ve already hidden it.”
“Hidden it? Get rid of it, quickly!”
“Are you crazy? This is three months’ worth of stock! If we don’t deliver it, our business is finished, and we’re left with nothing.” The figure in the white coat sneered. “Don’t panic. He’s just a human. Can he really cause trouble? This is the East Sea Dragon Palace. He’s an outsider with a group of naive dragon pups. They won’t suspect anything. As long as we hide the goods, his actions will be meaningless.”
“What if?” Fish Mother pressed.
The figure in the white coat paused, dialing an internal communication number. “Is this the squad leader? Yes, it’s me. You’re welcome, no problem… About your daughter’s job, I’ll arrange it. Your son-in-law’s matter is handled… I just need a small favor…”
After a few minutes of friendly chatter, he hung up and turned to Fish Mother.
“Everything’s arranged,” he said coolly.
“What have you arranged?” Fish Mother asked, wary.
“It’s not a big deal. He’s reckless now because the little princess is safe. But if she gets hurt, everyone’s attention will shift. I’ll make sure it happens.” The aquatic creature sneered.
“You want to harm the little princess!” Fish Mother exclaimed in shock. “No, I disagree! It’s not allowed!”
“What are you shouting for?” the figure retorted coldly. “You’ve done this countless times already. Don’t pretend now. I know exactly what kind of person you are.”
Fish Mother gritted her teeth. “But… the little princess…”
“We’re retiring in a few months. Don’t ruin everything now out of sympathy,” the white-coated figure said coldly. “I’ve achieved my position thanks to you. We rise and fall together. The little princess will be fine. A little injury, a bit of blood—it’s nothing. Once we subdue this outsider, we’ll all be happy.”
