Chapter 413: The Power of Desperate Management
[Time remaining until the ebb of the gray tide: 01:33:54]
Bai Wei held a piece of Heaven Fragment and glanced at the Blind Saintess.
After landing, the saintess gathered her strength again, preparing to jump and retrieve the fragment. But now that he held the Heaven Fragment, he was in control. Besides the group leader, only his decisions mattered.
“You are fired!”
As Bai Wei spoke, he saw the saintess throw a punch and charge toward him. However, her strike missed, as an invisible portal opened, casting her beyond the Broken Paradise, back to the place she came from, back to the place she belonged.
The Blind Saintess was extremely angry. “Golden Clan, you have taken my master’s body. This revenge will be exacted. We will never coexist!”
Bai Wei, calm as ever, replied, “You can talk big once you have defeated the Alliance. I’ll wait for Supreme Will to come to me personally. I wouldn’t mind having a battle like the ancient gods and ushering in a new era!”
The saintess wanted to retort, but Bai Wei simply waved his hand, closing the portal and sending her back completely.
There was a purple exclamation mark above their heads, but it couldn’t be removed. It was very troublesome, so they decided to leave it for now.
If they tried to take the piece of Heaven for themselves, they would anger her. There was no doubt that compromise was impossible. The saints had absolute faith in the Supreme Will.
But in Bai Wei’s view, the mistake didn’t lie in religion itself, nor in faith or its followers. The Sacred Religion might not be a good thing today, but one had to consider different periods in history. The religious order of the Dark Age could, indeed, deserve praise as the light of civilization.
Bai Wei held the piece of Heaven in his hand, granting him the power to remove everyone who had entered this paradise. It was like holding the title of an “administrator,” with the ability to mute or remove people from the group.
With millions of people in this vast paradise, it would take some time to kick them all out at once.
“So, we’ll send everyone who is in this dream of paradise back,” Bai Wei said.
[Thirty minutes]
The piece of Heaven slipped from his hand and transformed into a white door as it hit the ground. Between the doors was a rotating whirlpool. One by one, shadowy figures flashed and then vanished into the whirlpool, swiftly clearing those who had mistakenly entered the Broken Paradise.
The Thundercloud Avatar and the Golden Engraving synchronized their termination, and Bai Wei, wearing the royal cloak, descended the steps. The teleportation gate floated behind him, following his every movement.
At the foot of the mountain, Guan Ling and Alena, who had been watching the battle from a distance, caught a glimpse of the Golden Emperor. They both simultaneously showed expressions of relief.
This meant that Bai Wei had won the battle.
Guan Ling thought she could be saved, while Alena felt relieved that she hadn’t seen him get hurt.
“Once you pass through this door, you can safely return to your original place,” the Emperor said to the two of them.
Guan Ling bowed, stammering, “Th-thank you… b-but, I am still waiting for someone.”
“Everyone will be sent back, without exception,” the Emperor stated.
Guan Ling hesitated.
Bai Wei knew she was thinking, so he said, “I’ll give you three minutes.”
The king’s hand touched the lion’s golden fur, sitting on its back, giving them some private space.
Guan Ling asked, “How are you recovering?”
“Still a bit tired, but it doesn’t affect me,” Alena said.
“Then I won’t suck your blood,” Guan Ling said.
“Stingy, I risked half my life for you.”
“It’s not that I don’t want to, it’s just that this body is not mine,” Guan Ling chuckled bitterly. “If you drain her to anemia, I can’t explain it.”
“Soul exchange?” Alena thought for a moment. “Indeed, how could your personality have such a strong physique?”
“Let’s not talk about that, I’m leaving soon.” Guan Ling took out a pen and paper. “This is my name, as well as my contact information. Here’s the address. Let’s exchange, I’ll write you letters.”
“Can you speak Europa language?” Alena wrote her contact details on the paper for Guan Ling.
“I can learn.” Guan Ling was confident. “I have a decent talent for languages.”
“Alternatively, you can leave this behind.” Alena pointed to the outer god residue and the mental tools they gave them, “Looking forward to the next meeting.”
“It might take a while.” Guan Ling said with a bit of sadness.
“Then you shouldn’t be reluctant to leave at this moment.” Alena gave her a gentle push on the back, “I know you want to go back and make sure someone is safe. Go back, little hedgehog, and next time we meet, you have to be more spirited.”
Guan Ling nodded quietly, then bowed, “Thank you for your help.”
She turned and ran toward the portal, disappearing into it.
Alena sighed, “I hope she’s doing well.”
Then, she thought to herself… Finally, she’s gone.
She stood up and walked slowly toward Bai Wei. Her steps were slow, her breath rapid, her cheeks burning.
Alena, who had never cared much about her appearance, regretted, for the first time, not bringing her makeup kit.
She really wanted to appear in front of him in a complete and polished way, leaving a good impression.
She thought to herself, yes, he was indeed a living person, not just a historical figure.
The girl with royal blood realized that she was in love. A strong and pounding kind of love. She wasn’t shallow. She didn’t fall for him because of his good looks, nor because of the bridge effect. In short, she convinced herself that it wasn’t just that, though she found it hard to admit.
Many people say that the first infatuation at the age of ten is fake, but there are those who believe that such infatuations can be real.
Alena had jokingly told Michelle that Michelle’s understanding of love wasn’t real. Love experiences were calm and secure, and a long-lasting relationship was already considered tumultuous. As for herself, she had no expectations for love. She always assumed she would live like an aunt, single and independent, with Sasha Capesh in mind.
But even Sasha had a deeply cherished unrequited love.
Alena’s mother was even more absorbed in love to the point of neglecting herself.
Perhaps the women of the Capesh tribe were just unlucky. They always met the wrong people at the right time.
Alena didn’t realize she was like a moth to a flame. She pursed her lips, nervously fidgeting with her fingers, clumsily thinking about what to say. She recalled the beautiful plots from novels and imagined herself as the protagonist, wondering how to handle this situation.
They had only met twice, exchanged less than five sentences. Suddenly, she realized how unfamiliar he was to her. She should get to know him more…
But as she was about to speak, she noticed a little crimson stain on the ground.
Alena then realized a detail she hadn’t noticed before. Her clothes were clean, but dealing with a second-grade heroic spirit wasn’t an easy task. He had been injured. In fact, it would be strange if he wasn’t. She clenched her fingertips tightly, a strong resolve forming deep inside her. Even if an upper-level heroic spirit were here, she would have the courage to retaliate. Sadness and grief circled in her heart, but only hatred remained, a desire for revenge.
This sense of murderous intent even caught Bai Wei’s attention. He had indeed suffered some injuries and was resting. The injuries weren’t to his soul, but to his physical body, which was already recovering well. After all, his current martial body wasn’t yet strong enough to match the Golden Power.
“You’re injured,” Alena said softly.
Bai Wei didn’t respond.
“I’m sorry,” she said again.
“What does it have to do with you?” Bai Wei asked.
“I… couldn’t help.” Her eyes saddened, her hopeful mood immediately turning gloomy.
“Then become stronger.” Bai Wei looked at her dark red long hair, which resembled Sasha’s. He was truly satisfied with Alena’s performance and character. His tone became more approving. Unconsciously, his mindset shifted from emperor to mentor. “Your talent is outstanding. In the future, you will accomplish great things, no less than the Blood Emperor… The Sacred Religion and the Allied countries will remain formidable enemies. It’s only a matter of time before they clash.”
Alena felt a surge of pride at his affirmation. “I can do it!”
“Work hard,” Bai Wei said, “Otherwise, you won’t be able to protect anyone.”
Alena gathered her courage and asked, “But you’re still here, right? I know why you came. You’re here for the people of the Alliance. If the saintess from the Sacred Religion takes that fragment, millions of people will die, right?”
Bai Wei neither confirmed nor denied it.
Alena took it as a confirmation and smiled. “Auntie’s words don’t always make sense, after all.”
Bai Wei ignored her comment.
Alena moved a little closer, bravely asking, “Can you please tell me who you are?”
Bai Wei replied, “Not now.”
“When can you?” Alena asked, her curiosity burning. She was willing to agree to anything at this moment.
“The things here are kept secret by the Blood Guardians.” Bai Wei made a request, “If you promise, I will tell you who I am when we meet again.”
