Chapter 403: The First Time With Michelle
“Hey, hey, can you understand what I’m saying?”
“Yes, I can.”
“Let me introduce myself, I’m Michelle Hope.”
“Hello, Michelle, my name is Yagyū Simozi.”
“This is really useful.”
Michelle felt curious. They couldn’t understand each other’s language before, but now they could communicate. After teaming up with Yagyū Simozi to defeat an ancient god remnant, the enemy vanished, leaving behind a pair of earrings and a feather.
By wearing the earrings, their words translated seamlessly. They didn’t know how it worked, but communication was no longer a problem.
“What are you planning to do next?” Michelle asked, feeling a pang of hunger and thirst.
Dragonborn were strong, but maintaining their strength required constant energy. To keep her figure intact, Michelle snacked throughout the day, her favorite being carb bombs. Protein powder was a strict no; the idea of waking up with six-pack abs terrified her.
Yagyū Simozi, still adjusting to Guan Ling’s body, was also fatigued. She sat down to catch her breath.
“I plan to continue hunting the strange creatures nearby,” Yagyū said. “On the way here, I saw a giant that killed many people. If we can defeat it, this area should be safe. Then we can search further.”
“Shouldn’t we think about how to escape?”
“This is an island, surrounded by the ocean. Escape is impossible,” Yagyū replied. “Every second counts. Maybe defeating these monsters will give us answers.”
“Then let’s change tactics and find food first.”
“I have some chocolate and biscuits here.” Yagyū handed over the snacks she had. “It’s all I’ve got.”
“I feel so embarrassed.”
“You’ve helped me a lot just now. It’s no big deal,” Yagyū reassured her. “If we can’t find any other food or water, we might not last a few days. I doubt you’d want to eat those monsters, right?”
She glanced at a nearby corpse, blood and guts smeared everywhere.
“No way!” Michelle said firmly, biting into the chocolate to soothe her hunger. “Drinking blood doesn’t help either. It hydrates a little but makes you thirstier.”
Yagyū gave a faint smile. “Just kidding.”
For a moment, Yagyū found the situation surreal. In a few days, her world had turned upside down. She met Guan Ling, swapped bodies, attended a music festival, and found herself in a strange land. Now she was fighting unknown creatures and teaming up with a girl from Europa.
She wanted to tell her brother everything.
Yagyū held the blunt sword she’d picked up. It wasn’t much, but it was better than nothing.
“Don’t you want to rest a little?” Michelle asked.
“We’ve already wasted too much time. Besides, I heard something,” Yagyū said, standing up.
Michelle pressed her palm to the ground. A faint vibration was approaching. “You’re right. If we can’t win, I’ll pull us out. It’s not worth dying here.”
They hid, watching a massive one-eyed giant stop about a hundred meters away.
“What’s it doing?” Yagyū whispered.
Michelle peeked and froze. The giant bent down, its palms and feet pressed against the ground, stabilizing itself like a cannon being fixed before firing.
“Retreat! Now!” Michelle shouted.
It was too late.
The giant opened its eye, releasing a devastating beam of energy that swept across the land like a blade of light.
Michelle and Yagyū hit the ground, narrowly avoiding the destruction. Everything within a several-kilometer radius was obliterated, leaving rubble in its wake.
“Phew!” Michelle exhaled as the vibrations subsided. “Are you okay, Yagyū?”
“Just a minor injury,” Yagyū replied, moving a stone off her leg.
“I think we should stay hidden,” Michelle muttered.
“I agree. That thing can kill with its gaze,” Yagyū nodded.
“But why did it attack so suddenly?” Michelle wondered.
Before they could act, a massive dragon with steel-like scales descended, engaging the giant in a territorial battle.
“A dragon…” Michelle whispered, awe and fear in her voice.
“It’s not alive,” Yagyū observed. “Look at its hollowed-out abdomen. It’s a corpse.”
Michelle nodded. “Let’s get out of here. If we get caught between them, we’re dead.”
As they retreated, the dragon corpse turned its attention to them, its empty eyes gleaming with malice.
“Why us?!” Michelle groaned.
The ancient dragon and the one-eyed giant seemed to form an unspoken alliance, targeting the two girls.
Just as all hope seemed lost, a deafening roar cut through the chaos.
A flash of lightning streaked across the battlefield. In a single, devastating strike, the dragon corpse shattered into pieces.
Standing atop the remains was Bai Wei, his sword gleaming with power. His presence was commanding, his skill unmatched.
Bai Wei scanned the scene, his gaze landing on Michelle. For a moment, he froze.
He never expected to meet her like this.
Michelle Hope… What an unexpected fate.
