Chapter 395: Ancient God Residue, Rock-Paper-Scissors Game
Broken Paradise is a paradise in ruins.
It is not a true paradise.
The ancient gods and outer gods of the past have all been killed, their remains scattered in a desolate abyss. Some of these remnants blend into the fragments of paradise.
These lingering memories are far from being true gods; they are but residues of gods. Yet, even in this diminished state, they remain potent enough to threaten the lives of ordinary people.
Much like the trials faced before in the broken paradise, these residues of ancient gods and outer gods will take root and draw in living beings to play games.
If Bai Wei turns and leaves, the other side won’t be able to stop him.
But if he speaks, responding in any way, he will be pulled into the game.
No exact promise is needed; a simple answer is enough. According to the rules, he must participate.
The minimum requirement for this game is two players, so now it’s Bai Wei’s turn to play with the young man from the Three-Eyed Clan.
The other person wore a sorry expression and said, “I didn’t want this either, but if I don’t finish the game, I can’t leave. I’m really sorry…”
Bai Wei paid no attention to this person. He had no interest in wasting a word on someone like this. Even in the best places, there are pests—those who care only for their own gain. Pretending to apologize at this moment would only deepen the disgust.
“What are the rules? What game do you want us to play?” Bai Wei asked the residue.
The residue appeared as a black and red sphere with eyes and a mouth, floating in mid-air.
“I like how quickly you accepted,” the ancient god residue grinned. Its exaggerated smile stretched from ear to ear, taking up a third of the size of the sphere. “The rules are quite simple… Only one of you can leave. The other must stay and become my food.”
The three-eyed young man’s face changed drastically. “You didn’t say that before!”
“Of course, I was tricking you, kid. Otherwise, why would you bring someone else to play my game?” The residue sneered.
“That’s ridiculous! I choose to quit!” the young man said.
“Fine,” the residue responded, its voice dripping with malice. “Then I’ll eat you and wait for the next person willing to play.”
The ancient god residue suddenly moved closer, its mouth wide open, tongue flicking out. “Are you sure you want to quit?”
“I…” The young man gritted his teeth, torn.
“We could also choose to be passive in this game,” Bai Wei said nonchalantly, “and just wait until you lose your patience.”
“Then I’ll eat both of you!” The ancient god residue glared at Bai Wei.
“Then you give it a try.” Bai Wei crossed his arms, dismissing the threat. “Come on, bite me and see.”
“You…” The residue’s face contorted with rage.
“Not coming?” Bai Wei continued, pressing, “Come on, take a bite at me.”
The residue recoiled half a step in anger.
“In Broken Paradise, there is order,” Bai Wei sneered. “If you truly had the power to devour others, you wouldn’t need these so-called rules. In the end, you’re just residue—no better than the worst. You can’t move as you please here. As long as I don’t cooperate, you can’t do anything. You can only wait.”
The ancient god residue looked like an angry steam-powered locomotive from a comic book, spewing black and red smoke from its head.
“You’re right, but I can afford it. Can you?” the residue roared.
“You’ve caught the two of us for now, but there will be more. If we continue to refuse your game, you can only watch them walk away,” Bai Wei mocked. “Do you think I lack the courage for that?”
Bai Wei revealed two fragments of courage feathers, waving them in front of the residue.
Arms crossed, Bai Wei leaned back in a relaxed stance. “Let me tell you, I’m not getting too inflated right now!”
The residue froze. “Damn, it’s courage feathers. No wonder you’re not scared!”
“What do you want?” the ancient god residue growled, somewhat annoyed.
Bai Wei could tell this god residue wasn’t very smart. Even when it was alive, it must have been a foolish, disgraceful entity—not someone worthy of respect.
“It’s simple,” Bai Wei said. “I don’t think two people are enough for this game. Why don’t you join us?”
The ancient god residue’s eyes widened. “What did you say?”
Bai Wei repeated, “Why don’t you join us too? If I win against you, let me go. Otherwise, even if I win against him, you might not let me go if you eat him. Can’t you see the obvious loophole? You just want to keep a living person as bait.”
The residue thought for a moment before agreeing, “Alright.”
It grinned, full of confidence. “You can’t defeat me anyway… As long as I win, I get to eat both of you.”
The young person from the Three-Eyed Clan asked, “Since you already have two players, can I leave?”
The residue grinned cruelly. “Of course not! I never keep my promises with fools.”
The young man’s face turned pale.
Bai Wei raised an eyebrow. “So, what are the rules?”
The residue answered with a wicked smile, “Rock-paper-scissors.”
“Surprisingly simple rules,” Bai Wei remarked, squinting. “Very well, let’s do it.”
The three-eyed young man’s expression improved. He glanced at Bai Wei and asked, “But how do we determine the winner when there are three of us?”
The ancient god residue sneered. “If I win against both of you, I get to eat you both. If both of you win against me, you can leave. But remember, only one person can leave! In case of a tie, we play again. The winner gets to leave, and the loser stays!”
Bai Wei thought for a moment. “What if I win against you, you win against him, and he wins against me?”
The residue sneered, “I’ll eat him!”
Bai Wei calmly replied, “Call it a draw.”
“Why should we?” the residue demanded.
“Here’s a chance for you to win everything.”
“…Okay!” The ancient god residue agreed eagerly, confident it wouldn’t lose. “Let’s get ready!”
The three players stood in their respective positions, preparing for the game of rock-paper-scissors.
None of them expected that in this simple game, their very lives would be at stake.
Bai Wei remained calm, even without the courage feathers. He wasn’t afraid as he looked at the eager residue, flexing its fists.
The young man with three eyes looked around, hesitated, then made a decision. His third eye locked on Bai Wei.
“Scissors… rock…”
“Paper!”
The results of the first round were in: the ancient god residue played rock, Bai Wei played paper, and the Three-Eyed Clan played scissors.
The ancient god residue howled in disbelief. “This is impossible! You’re cheating!”
Bai Wei frowned slightly and glanced at the young man.
The young man sighed with relief, then looked up at Bai Wei. “Sorry, I got nervous. I was going to make a move.”
“Start the second round quickly!” the residue roared angrily.
The second round began. The ancient god residue played paper, Bai Wei played scissors, and the Three-Eyed Clan played rock.
It was another tie.
The residue couldn’t help but change the rules. “If we get the same result again, I won’t accept a tie! I’ll eat the person who loses to me!”
Bai Wei said nothing, only replying, “Okay, let’s continue.”
The young man nodded. “Let’s continue.”
The third round began. The residue, still furious, punched out, producing a stone. Bai Wei played paper, and the Three-Eyed Clan also played paper.
They both won.
The ancient god residue’s face darkened. “You, you…”
Bai Wei calmly stated, “I’m willing to accept the gamble. That’s the rule. If you set the rule, you must follow it. Otherwise…”
The residue suppressed its anger, forcing a grin. “Isn’t there still two more rounds? You have to play rock-paper-scissors with each other again. Whoever wins gets to leave, and the one remaining must defeat me again. Otherwise, they will become my delicious meal.”
It seemed to enjoy watching the two of them squirm, eager to see the conflict.
Bai Wei turned to the three-eyed young man, who nodded and said, “I’m ready anytime.”
Bai Wei raised his hand. “Then let’s begin.”
The young man nodded. His third eye focused on the opponent’s wrist, analyzing the muscle movement… He couldn’t be wrong—his opponent was going to play stone!
He made his move.
The two played rock-paper-scissors, but it was over in a brief moment.
The young man believed he had won and would escape, but his confident expression faltered as the outcome unfolded.
Bai Wei chose scissors.
“You lost,” Bai Wei said, and as soon as he spoke, the power that had bound him lifted.
The young man covered his face, murmuring, “How could this happen? I couldn’t have misjudged it… I didn’t misjudge the first two times!”
Bai Wei, stretching his arms, replied lazily, “Why did you think I wasn’t intentionally slowing down for you to see?”
“Were you plotting against me?!” the young man’s face contorted in disbelief.
“Yes,” Bai Wei said with a grin. “You were foolish, and you deserved it.”
