Chapter 337: Easily Amused
In the afternoon, Bai Wei made his way to Izumi Dojo, which had been deserted for over a week.
A group of people, who had been waiting eagerly, watched as he began his lesson for the day.
As Bai Wei gained a deeper understanding of his spiritual state, he unknowingly showcased some of his martial arts techniques, teaching the students a few practical combat moves.
It wasn’t lost on him that this group of young disciples had fiery tempers. Each of them bore visible scratches and bruises, clear signs of their involvement in scuffles.
He would never engage in such petty fights, especially with children, unless they dared challenge him first.
The dojo’s disciples never encouraged fighting outside of training. Using martial arts to harm others went against their core principles. One of the most important lessons was learning self-restraint—how to control one’s fists.
As a skilled martial artist, Bai Wei took it upon himself to personally instruct these young disciples. Today, however, he was unusually strict. He deliberately tapped the bruises on some of their bodies with a bamboo stick.
The students infused their true qi, and though the touch was painful, it served as a sign that their energy was beginning to flow. It would soon help promote blood circulation and eliminate stagnation, though the discomfort was part of the process.
As the lesson progressed, some students began to show off, pretending to be skilled fighters. However, their attempts often ended in embarrassing defeats. Those who were good with their fists might eventually be undone by them. Much like how those who excel at swimming might drown—strength alone wasn’t enough. Not everyone was like Wang Chao, that strange, perverse figure who could thrive in street brawls and remain invincible across the world.
The boys learned their lesson. Bai Wei waited until it was almost dark before imparting a few words of wisdom. He made them stand as punishment for fifteen minutes, and only then did he allow them to leave.
Having once been a mentor himself, Bai Wei knew how to handle this energetic group. Both praise and discipline were necessary to guide them, not to punish them. He believed that the only way to truly curb this behavior was to increase the intensity of their training.
The young ones were full of energy. They needed an outlet for it, like a Husky dog that needed constant exercise to avoid bouncing off the walls. If not given an outlet, all that energy would turn into trouble—either annoying the owner or tearing the house apart.
Every dog owner eventually becomes a member of the “walking party.” And in this case, the training was an exciting torment for all involved.
That night, Bai Wei returned home, only to find his sister absent. He couldn’t muster the motivation to cook. When he was alone, the thought of cooking for himself felt draining. However, with someone else at home, no matter who it was, he would always find ways to prepare something special. But when alone, he just didn’t care as much.
He made a simple bowl of noodles, cracked two eggs into it, and casually satisfied his hunger.
Afterward, he went to the tea house, sat cross-legged, and entered a deep state of meditation and dreams.
In the spiritual world, the ocean waves rose and fell. His consciousness moved through the space, anchoring itself in a point and logging in.
Meanwhile, Michelle was lying in bed, unwilling to get up.
It was already 7 AM, but she didn’t feel like leaving her warm covers. Clutching her pillow, she rolled around in bed.
“Mmm…”
The alarm clock rang for the seventh time. Reluctantly, she sat up, turned off the alarm, and slapped her cheeks lightly.
“Okay, today is another day without hope.”
Mr. Devil still hadn’t come, and it had been nearly ten days.
Why hasn’t he come?
Does he dislike me?
She couldn’t believe it. She had been so well-behaved and obedient. Hadn’t their last conversation gone well?
Mr. Devil had even started respecting her personal wishes. Wasn’t that a good sign? A wonderful beginning?
She could gradually learn more about him, understand what kind of person he was, perhaps even hear his story and understand each other better. And then… maybe then…
Sitting at the bedside, she gently clasped her right hand with her left.
One day, she thought, she might touch Mr. Devil’s hand just like she could touch her own, feeling the warmth of his touch.
Because he was so mysterious, he drew her in. The mystery of it was irresistible. She felt an overwhelming urge to uncover his secrets.
But it wasn’t just curiosity—there was something deeper. She wanted more. Even if they couldn’t meet in person, she still wanted to feel closer—both in spirit and physically too.
This was Michelle’s deepest, unspoken desire. The burning longing within her heart.
She thought it would be a good start, but ten days had passed in silence. It was nothing like she imagined.
Why? What did I do wrong? Even a little scolding would have been better, but to be completely ignored? That hurt.
Mr. Devil, don’t you want your prize anymore?
Michelle had never been ignored like this. Even though they had known each other for less than two months, the silence felt unbearable. Not hearing from him for days, not feeling his presence—it drained her energy.
The Devil Dependence Syndrome had manifested, and it was becoming severe.
At first, she had been busy dealing with campus matters, but after ten days, everything had calmed down. She was back to her regular school life. But now, time felt like a torment.
When Mr. Devil was around, everything she did—studying, reading—felt productive. Her focus was at its peak, as she had become accustomed to having someone silently watch over her. But now, with him gone, even the library’s abundant resources couldn’t make her feel motivated.
Alena had a lot to say but nowhere to vent. It made her feel like a suppressed volcano—calm on the surface but ready to erupt. Even Alena noticed her irritability lately, suspecting it might be her monthly cycle.
Michelle asked, “Dragonborn don’t have a menstrual cycle, right?”
Alena replied, “Selvicer, your mood has been awful too. You both have the same expression. Did you have a fight?”
Michelle shook her head. She had caught a glimpse of Judy from afar and sensed her bad mood, but she didn’t pay much attention. She was feeling the same, and her instincts told her that if they collided, a small volcano might erupt in both of them.
Like every other day, she had to get up, go to class, and study on her own.
The little girl looked like a zombie Tyrannosaurus rex as she brushed her teeth with sluggish movements.
She fumbled with her clothes, slowly buttoning them up one by one. But realizing she had buttoned them wrong, she unbuttoned them and tried again—still getting it wrong.
Michelle, “…”
If she were an orc, her ears would have perked up like a puppy searching for its owner.
“Ah, it’s only been a few days and you’ve already caught the ‘workaholic virus’?”
A voice echoed.
Michelle froze, thinking at first that she was hearing things. Then, she cautiously asked, “Mr. Devil?”
Bai Wei stood inside the room and responded, “Hmm?”
“Wow, you’re really here!” Michelle exclaimed, leaping up in excitement. She didn’t even realize that her buttons were undone. As she jumped, the wind caught her dress, revealing her fair skin, chest, and stomach. She leapt in the direction of the sound, only to find herself falling through empty air.
Almost tumbling headfirst, Bai Wei caught her gently, supporting her as if lifting a small animal and carefully guiding her back onto the sofa.
“Big Miss, pay attention to your appearance.”
“No, I just want to act coquettishly with Mr. Devil for a while.”
“Don’t push it. I’m not your parents or elders; we have a professional relationship.”
“Um, um,” she giggled, sitting on the sofa, her smile wide.
Bai Wei gently tapped her forehead with his finger, “Take out the golden tree seed and resin.”
Michelle immediately nodded and opened the cabinet, retrieving the golden tree seeds and three large jars of golden tree resin. Using her magic, she carefully sealed and packaged them.
Bai Wei raised his hand, and the golden tree seeds and resin fell into his palm. As they touched his soul, a soft burst of golden light bloomed.
They were authentic.
After inspecting the goods, they placed the items into the spiritual world’s ocean, where they could now be transported across the ocean without relying on the Four Seas Logistics.
Michelle felt a pang of anxiety and asked cautiously, “Mr. Devil, are you going to take these and never come back?”
Bai Wei chuckled, “You’re being too optimistic. I’ve invested too much for these to be considered anything more than interest. The principal is still far from being repaid.”
Michelle felt a great sense of relief, and a smile returned to her face. “That’s a relief. I couldn’t afford to repay the principal, after all.”
In truth, Michelle had many questions she wanted to ask. But hearing Mr. Devil’s voice made everything else seem unimportant. All her quirks and worries faded in his presence.
She quickly buttoned up her clothes, washed her face, and the lively girl was back—bursting with energy.
“Mr. Devil, what shall we do today?”
“Anything is fine. I don’t have any plans for today,” Bai Wei replied. “But out of mutual respect, I’ll explain why I haven’t been around for more than ten days. I’ve been busy, and some personal matters kept me away. I hope you understand.”
Michelle stood still, staring at him with a cute, innocent expression. Then, something warm stirred in her chest, like a ball of fire igniting.
Confusion, discontent, blame, doubt, anger—emotions that had been building for over ten days—seemed to erupt.
But it wasn’t an explosion of fury.
It was a dud.
The volcano had run out of magma, and what came out instead was soft, warm rain.
She couldn’t quite explain it, but at that moment, her mood was brighter than ever—better than putting on new clothes, sweeter than the first taste of ice cream, more joyous than defeating a formidable foe.
Every tiny crack of discontent within her heart had been filled, and she truly felt she had a special place in Mr. Devil’s heart.
Bai Wei noticed every flicker of emotion on her face.
…She was really easy to please.
