Chapter 295: The Current Offense!
Bai Wei waited patiently, tapping his fingers on the desk, for ten full minutes before Judy finally returned.
“What took you so long?” he asked, raising an eyebrow.
“I had to go…potty,” Judy muttered.
“Constipated?”
“No!” Judy stammered, her cheeks reddening. “Please don’t ask me anymore.”
Bai Wei sighed. “No matter what you were doing, calm down. It’s time to start the lesson.”
“Okay.” Judy sat down, adjusting her mood. She glanced toward the windowsill, but the memory resurfaced. Her chest tightened—was this what a heart attack felt like?
Snap! Bai Wei rolled up a book and smacked her lightly on the head.
“Distracted again?”
“Can I change seats?” Judy pleaded. “I can’t concentrate here.”
Without hesitation, Bai Wei agreed and moved her to a new spot. Once seated, Judy finally felt calm enough to ask, “Where do we begin?”
Bai Wei’s tone grew serious. “Whichever path you choose, you’ll fail without a solid foundation. To enter the Holy Domain, you must master both the Spatial and Soul systems. These disciplines cannot be rushed. They require time and dedication. First, I’ll teach you a sword technique called Swallow’s Return.”
“A lost technique from your mentor?”
“It’s not as mystical as it sounds,” Bai Wei clarified. “It’s a basic space-folding technique. In the Holy Domain, it’s commonplace, but mastering it below the Holy Domain is incredibly challenging. That’s why it’s rarely taught anymore.”
He continued, “The second is a Soul system technique called Soul Partition. With precise magical control, you can split a portion of your soul and manipulate it. This allows you to perform multiple actions simultaneously.”
“That sounds like splitting my consciousness, like controlling a puppet,” Judy mused.
“Close, but more advanced,” Bai Wei said. “The strength of this technique lies in how it amplifies your spirit by repeatedly splitting and merging. However, there’s a risk. Without proper guidance, soul partitioning can lead to mild mental fragmentation—or worse, the annihilation of your consciousness.”
Judy’s voice wavered. “Is it really that dangerous?”
“Yes,” Bai Wei replied flatly. “But the rewards are equally great. Amplifying your soul enhances your control and precision in magic. Within the Holy Domain, you could divide into five parts, with optimal control at three. A clone would possess half your combat strength, effectively doubling your power. In the Holy Domain, dividing into seven parts could triple your abilities. Beyond that, in the Legendary realm…”
Judy’s eyes sparkled with determination. “Teach me now!”
Bai Wei smirked. “Patience. There’s more. The last technique I’ll introduce is Engraving.”
“Engraving? Like inscribing spells?”
Bai Wei nodded. “It’s an advanced technique. Do you remember the Holy Domain spell Crimson Lotus Ice Prison?”
“I remember, but that spell doesn’t suit me.”
“Exactly. The Crimson Lotus Ice Prison derives from the Great Crimson Lotus Inferno, but the Inferno isn’t limited to that form. By visualizing other infernos, you can tap into similar power. For your Aphrodite Bloodflame Sinblade, the Fiery Purgatory is ideal.”
Judy held her breath, captivated.
Bai Wei explained further, “Once you ascend to the Holy Domain, you’ll visualize infernal landscapes to manifest your power. This transforms reality into your own Holy Domain—your Fiery Purgatory.”
“What about engraving?” Judy whispered.
“It prepares you for the Fiery Purgatory by drawing out the essence of Infernal Fire,” Bai Wei said.
Judy’s curiosity deepened. “And the Golden Engraving?”
Bai Wei’s expression darkened. “You’re not ready for that.”
“Then where does Hellfire come from?”
“Figure it out yourself,” Bai Wei snapped. “Don’t expect me to spoon-feed you.”
Judy pouted. “Mr. Devil is so strict,” she murmured under her breath.
The morning passed in intense study. While Judy practiced, Bai Wei reviewed his own texts, realizing his knowledge was outdated. The legendary mage’s past achievements felt exaggerated compared to the advanced techniques of the present.
As time marched on, the gap between low-level and high-level mysteries widened. Within the magical system, only three legends—or a single demigod—could exist at the pinnacle. This scarcity bred competition, often violent, as mages vied for power.
Bai Wei reflected on his own golden legacy. Why chase incremental progress when restoring his Golden Power would surpass even the Heroic Spirit Principle?
“Why compete for scraps,” he thought, “when I can claim the whole pot?”
Later, at lunch, Judy asked a burning question. “Nine forgotten spells—Mr. Devil only mentioned eight. What about the last one?”
“I don’t know,” Bai Wei admitted.
“How could you not? The original author was Liliana!”
“The ninth spell, Principle of Return, is unknown even to me,” Bai Wei said calmly.
Disappointed but curious, Judy returned to the library. She encountered Michelle and Alena, who seemed burdened by concerns.
“Hello,” Judy greeted them with a radiant smile.
“Hello, Senior Selvicer,” Michelle replied politely. “Are you here to study?”
“No, I’m on a date,” Judy teased, then added, “A date with knowledge.”
As they conversed, Michelle revealed their goal: searching for books on Liliana and gold-related mysteries.
Their search, however, hit a dead end—until Vice Principal Florence appeared.
“You won’t find what you’re looking for here,” the Vice Principal said. “But there’s someone who might know. Come with me.”
“Who?” Michelle asked eagerly.
“The undead bird, Phoenix,” Florence replied with a knowing smile.
