Chapter 288: Where Is the Hooligan?
“We’re almost there at the medical center up ahead,” Bai Wei said. “Everyone, please make way.”
Nana, in a childish voice, echoed, “Everyone, please make way.”
Her courage grew, much like Yumi’s on a mighty steed, speaking with determination.
At that moment, Princess, much like the little baby in Zhao Yun’s arms, dashed wildly within the army. Fearlessly charging forward and retreating seven times, the two of them fought together, wreaking havoc all around. Only Bai Wei lagged slightly behind in skill and courage.
Though they were being beaten, they were all on the same side.
“If this continues, we won’t be able to stop it,” one guard muttered.
“I’ve never seen someone so strong before. I’m not as powerful as them…” another added.
“Wow, I admire you so much! Hurry up! It’s all about using the ‘sea of people’ strategy!” a voice shouted.
A group of aquatic guards argued among themselves, their attempts to surround the enemy failing time and again. Even the Dragon Palace guards, known for their powerful combined attacks, couldn’t make it work. They were defeated in various ways.
Then, a plump fish from the water tribe stepped forward. Sharkhead rallied the unruly guards, commanding, “Bring forth the spear!”
The guards under her command hesitated, “But, Lady Nana…”
“I told you to bring forth the spear!” The shark-headed leader’s large mouth smacked down. “Pick up your weapons, all of you!”
Reluctantly, the soldiers of the guard picked up their weapons, instantly transforming the atmosphere into one of solemnity and tension.
“Take a step forward,” the leader ordered.
“…”
The guard dared not move.
“Everyone, take a step forward now!” roared the shark-headed leader. “Allowing someone to create such chaos in the Dragon Palace, how disgraceful! You should be even more ashamed!”
As the spear formation advanced, a chill ran through Nana’s body, causing her to instinctively shrink back.
The dragon maiden’s expression made certain guards uneasy. How could they point their weapons at Her Highness? Uneasy, they dropped their weapons, and one of them stammered, “Captain of the Guard, I…”
Before finishing, he received a swift kick, knocking him to the ground.
“Everyone, hush!” the captain of the shark guards growled. “Even if they have taken our princess hostage, we cannot let the Dragon Palace lose face. Hold onto your weapons tightly and charge forward!”
His voice was dark and deep. “I will bear the consequences and responsibility. Take them down!”
The spear formation continued.
Bai Wei frowned. “Have they gone mad? The guards of the East Sea Dragon Palace pointing their weapons at their own master?”
The captain of the guard sneered. “It’s not at Her Highness, but at you, criminal. If you’re afraid, surrender.”
Bai Wei’s gaze fixed on the shark-headed figure. A bright red streak of blood appeared on its head. The hostility was strong, with a hint of murderous intent.
The young man flexed his fingers, and as energy surged through his sleeves, he warned the other guards, “You better think it through carefully…”
The shark captain lashed the ground with a whip. “Everyone, attack!”
As the long spear advanced, Bai Wei flicked his sleeve. The tiger-head ring sword fell into his palm. With a single kick, he stomped a guard’s spear into the ground. Then, swinging the empty sword, he didn’t release any blade aura but simply conjured a ferocious tiger pounding the ground. Cracks resembling spider webs instantly emerged on the surrounding ground, and the residual force dispersed. The guards were sent flying like scattered flour, and the spear formation fell into instant disarray.
Bai Wei said, “While no blood has been shed, I advise you to use your brains a little and not get in my way… Do I look like a bandit to you?”
The guards remained silent as the little princess nervously embraced Bai Wei. It didn’t look like they were treating him as a stranger, but rather with intimate familiarity.
What’s more, he was too powerful. Even if he didn’t put in his full effort, no one could harm him.
Bai Wei’s gaze pierced through the guards, landing on the final shark captain, and a trace of coldness revealed itself.
“Come on, all of you, hurry up!” the captain shouted once again.
All parties realized the situation was spiraling out of control, but they were powerless to stop it.
They needed a dragon to take control of the situation… but where was the dragon?
When Ao Hanli finally arrived, the brawl had already come to an end. The situation was far worse than before. Many guards were covered in bruises, bleeding, and scattered weapons littered the ground. The more she looked, the grimmer her expression became… They actually resorted to using weapons?
As she continued, she came across a shark lying on the ground, gasping for breath. His face was disfigured, multiple bones broken, and triangular teeth scattered on the floor, soaked in blood.
“Princess Hanli,” cried the captain of the guard, “that villain is truly ruthless! He wielded his blade and injured many of our brethren. We couldn’t stop him.”
“Where did he go?” Ao Hanli asked.
“The medical center…”
“Okay,” Ao Hanli turned into a white shadow and headed straight to the medical center.
The shark guards breathed a sigh of relief, thinking the boy was done for. However, they soon noticed the other two individuals hadn’t budged at all.
“Princess Xue, what brings you here?” The captain of the guard recognized Xue Hanlei. She was quite famous.
“Are you hurt? Is it a serious injury?”
“Thank you, Your Highness, for your concern… I am fine.”
“That’s good.” Xue Hanlei smiled and then picked up a fallen long spear. She forcefully struck the face of the guard, sending the shark-headed creature toppling to the ground with a miserable cry. Her current strength wasn’t remarkable, just at an average person’s level, but being able to send a three-hundred-pound aquatic creature flying with a whip signified her intense anger.
The shark monster touched its face, bewildered.
“Don’t consider yourself too clever, and don’t think of us as fools.” Xue Hanlei towered above, her gaze icy cold. “I know exactly who he is, even clearer than anyone. There’s no need to draw a blade against you bunch of scraps. If there was real intent to kill, no matter how many times you come, you all will end up dead… How dare you wield blades and firearms against the guests I brought, and even dare raise weapons against a dragon… Hmph…”
“Your Highness, it’s a misunderstanding! I am simply fulfilling my duty faithfully.” The shark monster hastily knelt on the ground, pleading for mercy. “It was that brute who forced me…”
Xue Hanlei, not paying attention to his excuses, calmly said, “Remove your armor.”
The shark monster paused, taken aback.
“Remove your armor,” Xue Hanlei repeated indifferently, “Do you want me to do it myself?”
“You don’t have the right!” the shark monster exclaimed angrily.
“Unintentionally, I shall lend you my sword…” Xue Hanlei said coolly. “After centuries of favorable weather, it’s time to deal with some troublemakers in the sea.”
Yun Wuxin nodded. Without any visible movement, she lightly tapped her side with her immortal sword. In the next instant, the captain of the guard let out a scream of agony, as his body shattered into a gory spectacle. His armor was forcibly removed, and chunks of flesh and fat tumbled down along with it. The aquatic guards nearby fell into an eerie silence.
“An intermediate-level captain of the guard, indulged in rich feasts,” Xue Hanlei shattered the chunks of flesh that fell to the ground. “I wonder how you trained your soldiers and attained this position. I am truly curious.”
She gazed at the shark monster, who had his head lowered. Even though she couldn’t see it, she sensed the resentful and fearful gaze from him. She sneered, saying, “But it doesn’t matter… Now that Hanli has grown up, she is qualified to take charge of and intervene in all matters of the East Sea. You have a couple of centuries to witness my sister’s abilities.”
The guards withdrew, witnessing once again the merciless prowess of Xue Hanlei. In the past, during her time in the East Sea, a single dragon had dominated half of the region. Even though times had changed, her methods remained ruthless and skillful.
Yun Wuxin exclaimed, “On land and under the sea, chaos reigns in each realm.”
Xue Hanlei chuckled self-deprecatingly, thinking to herself, “I’m sure I must look quite funny to you. This kind of trend has been around for several decades, but unfortunately, I got married too early.”
“Will there be no issues with such ruthless methods?” Yun Wuxin questioned. “Kindness prevails over tyranny,” she declared.
“Unlike the human realm, the underwater world is vast with millions of aquatic creatures. There is no shortage of guards in the sea, and aside from the dragon clan, there is no need for any hereditary nobles. Dragons are born noble, and the other aquatic creatures are not slaves to the dragons. They simply rely on the dragons for protection. It is a symbiotic relationship, and they must understand their place. A harmonious coexistence is possible, but if they turn against their protectors, it becomes parasitic, and that calls for extermination,” Xue Hanlei calmly explained. “From this perspective, we still follow the traditional laws of nature, which differ greatly from human civilization.”
“Ao Hanli wants to take control of the East Sea, which would normally take at least ten years,” Yun Wuxin explained. “But with his help this time, we can reduce a considerable amount of time and effort.”
“Let’s wait and see,” sighed Xue Hanlei. “I hope he can uncover something to allow Hanli to gain control of the situation sooner, but I can’t say I truly hope for any significant discoveries.”
Yun Wuxin nodded and said, “I understand.”
After all, it concerned the dragon clan’s younglings. If something were uncovered, it would mostly be unfavorable and surely provoke the anger of the dragon clan in the East Sea…
“This is the medical center, right?” Bai Wei stopped and gently lowered Nana from his shoulders. “It might be a bit dangerous for you to keep following me, so wait here for your aunt to arrive.”
Nana nodded obediently, and Bai Wei placed the origami crane on her shoulder. He reminded her, “Don’t lose it.”
He noticed that the girl’s braids had come undone at some point. He crouched down and patiently helped her tie the little braids back together. This task truly required patience.
The girl stood obediently, her big eyes blinking nonstop.
At that moment, a figure raced towards Bai Wei from afar, stopping right in front of him. The shadow on the ground transformed into a human form.
“Auntie,” Nana called softly, her voice gentle.
Ao Hanli gently embraced the little dragon maiden, checking to ensure she was unharmed. Then, she turned her gaze toward Bai Wei and asked curiously, “What are you doing here? Where is the assailant?”
Bai Wei, with a calm face and steady heart, pointed toward the medical center and said, “He went inside.”
