Chapter 3: Talent Jealousy
“Boom!”
In the clouds, lightning flickered, and a loud thunderclap sounded out of nowhere.
Amidst the dark clouds, serpentine lightning surged, harboring the immense power of heaven and earth, as if a heavenly tribulation had descended!
The might of nature was terrifying.
As everyone displayed panic, the Qualification Stone suddenly erupted with an exceedingly bright light, leaving the crowd below speechless.
“Thud!”
On the high platform, several peak masters stood up and gazed at the sky.
Then they shifted their focus to the young boy next to the Qualification Stone, their faces showing surprise and shock.
“What is this? Talent envy from heaven?”
“Exactly! The tribulation comes down, for an extraordinary talent! It’s too great for heaven and earth to bear!”
“A thousand years ago, I saw this once!”
“Tsk tsk, this is my first time seeing it!”
Listening to what the peak masters said, Ji Yang felt no joy; he only sensed impending disaster, as if the heavenly tribulation was aimed specifically at him.
Ji Yang quickly withdrew his right hand, and the light on the Qualification Stone dimmed instantly.
But the tribulation above didn’t dissipate, sending Ji Yang into a panic, unable to control himself!
As he watched the tribulation about to form, a mysterious sword light flashed overhead!
The sword light soared into the sky, cutting through the clouds of calamity and splitting the dark clouds in half, until warm sunlight streamed through the gap, allowing Ji Yang’s heart to finally feel at ease.
Just as Headmaster Li was about to shatter the calamity clouds, he was momentarily stunned. Upon seeing who it was, a hint of surprise appeared in his eyes, followed by a smile as he said:
“So it’s Peak Master Ye.”
“Greetings, Headmaster!”
The newcomer was a middle-aged man in a long green robe, with a strong jaw and slightly disheveled hair, emanating a strong scent of alcohol, as if he had just awakened from a hangover.
The middle-aged man first bowed respectfully and then said:
“I wish to take a disciple!”
Before Headmaster Li could respond, Hao Tian, the master of Denglong Peak, couldn’t hold back:
“Ye Wuchen, you haven’t taken a disciple in decades at Jingtan Peak; what brings you to want a disciple today?”
“Peak Master Ye, I have two jars of fine wine! How about I bring them over later?”
“Peak Master Ye, why not come to Shengquan Peak for a hot spring soak?”
The other peak masters chimed in; they knew full well what Ye’s intentions were for coming at this moment.
Only Yaoji, the master of Wangxia Peak, glanced at her newly accepted disciple and remained silent.
“Fifty years!”
“The sect resources for the next fifty years! I don’t want them at Jingtan Peak!”
The other peak masters did not rush to respond; instead, they fell into deep thought. Peak Master Ye’s meaning was clear: he offered the resources of Jingtan Peak for fifty years in exchange for the right to take on a disciple.
The sect’s resources are fixed, and if Jingtan Peak does not require them, they naturally would be distributed among the other peaks.
The peak masters exchanged glances, and they all found their answers, no longer speaking, clearly agreeing to this transaction.
Seeing that the peak masters had made their decision, Headmaster Li finally spoke lightly:
“Since that’s the case, please proceed, Peak Master Ye!”
With no one left to oppose him, Ye Wuchen flew to Ji Yang’s side and slowly said:
“Do you wish to become my disciple?”
Upon hearing the middle-aged man’s deep voice, Ji Yang finally understood the situation, his eyes filled with endless surprise!
He was a genius, a prodigious one, even better than his previous exceptional talent! Heaven must be jealous of him!
And now, a peak master came specifically for him, offering fifty years’ worth of sect resources just to accept him as a disciple!
Had he not just soared into the sky?
Mining? Farming? Fishing?
Whoever wants to do that can go ahead!
With this talent, a special ability was unnecessary!
“Do you wish to become my disciple?”
When the second question was asked, Ji Yang, as if awakening from a dream, knelt down:
“Disciple bows to the Master!”
“Good!”
Seeing Ji Yang pledge allegiance, a slight smile appeared on Ye Wuchen’s face.
Then, he grabbed Ji Yang by the collar, and in an instant, they soared into the air, leaving behind the lingering echoes:
“Headmaster, I shall return to the peak first!”
Headmaster Li sighed helplessly.
The other peak masters in attendance showed no signs of disappointment; instead, they began distributing the fifty years’ worth of resources from Jingtan Peak!
Indeed, talent from heaven was superior to exceptional talent, allowing for faster cultivation, but good fortune often accompanies disaster.
This kind of talent would occasionally lead its possessor to experience calamities, often a minor disaster every three years and a major one every five years.
Though not many held such a talent, they were not uncommon either. Over the thousands of years in the cultivation world, a few had appeared, but they all perished early and never grew strong.
Their surprise was merely due to having never seen someone with such heavenly talent before, and their curiosity was now satisfied.
While they also wanted to take on a disciple to see if they could nurture him, they decisively chose the resources of fifty years over that.
Free resources! Why not take them?
Seeing Ji Yang awaken his Talent Jealousy and directly taken away by a peak master, the others were almost grinding their teeth in frustration.
Some were envious, some were jealous, and some regretted that they hadn’t built a good relationship with Ji Yang earlier.
Who would have thought that this farming boy could suddenly leap to genius status!
Meanwhile, the talent test continued, while Ji Yang was already soaring through the sky, albeit not in the most graceful position!
However, upon learning of his extraordinary talent, Ji Yang felt at ease in his heart.
His interest soared as he was flown aloft, and he took the time to look at the scenery below, sometimes asking questions that popped into his mind:
“Master, is that mountain shimmering on the water, with white steam rising, our Jingtan Peak?”
“Shengquan Peak, there’s a small river there, nothing surprising!”
“Master, is that mountain with ancient melodies and the sounds of monkeys and cranes our Jingtan Peak?”
“Juhufeng, just some kittens and birds, nothing worth seeing.”
“Master, is that mountain lush and green our Jingtan Peak?”
“Cuiping Peak, it has flowers and plants, as numerous as the hairs on an ox!”
From their earlier conversation, Ji Yang already knew his master’s name and the name of the peak.
Jingtan Peak, Ye Wuchen.
The main character’s name, along with swordsmanship and wealth, was one of the reasons Ji Yang agreed without hesitation.
Now, Ye Wuchen’s dismissive tone only filled Ji Yang with anticipation; surely, his master’s Jingtan Peak would exceed his imagination!
Ji Yang then saw several mountains with varying landscapes and wanted to ask more, but Ye Wuchen increased his flying speed, not giving Ji Yang the chance.
After flying for several minutes, Ye Wuchen slowed down, and Ji Yang hurriedly opened his eyes to see ahead.
Before him stood a single majestic peak among many valleys, towering hundreds of feet high and stretching thousands of meters long, resembling an immortal seated on a divine altar.
Could this be Jingtan Peak?
Before Ji Yang could observe it closely, he felt himself suddenly descend, and in the blink of an eye, his feet landed on solid ground!
