Chapter 2: Qualification Test
Hearing his test result, the round-faced man was filled with disappointment.
Just as Elder Liu had said, with low-grade talent, he could hardly pursue the Dao in his lifetime.
Before the round-faced man had time to feel sad, Elder Liu had already called out the next person.
“Ma Jun!”
A young boy stepped forward quickly and placed his hand on the Qualification Stone.
After waiting for a moment, the Qualification Stone remained dull and unresponsive.
Seeing this, Elder Liu spoke again:
“No talent!”
Upon hearing his test result, the boy’s face filled with disbelief as he stubbornly placed his hand on the Qualification Stone once more.
But the result was still the same; the stone showed no reaction at all!
Feeling dejected and pale, the boy walked back into the crowd, unable to accept this outcome.
Lacking talent meant he would not be able to cultivate as an immortal! His path to becoming an immortal was completely cut off.
“Jing Yao!”
Facing the boy’s grim situation, Elder Liu remained indifferent and continued to call the next person.
Some felt sorrowful, while others rejoiced.
The round-faced man no longer looked disappointed after hearing the boy’s test result; instead, there was a glimmer of joy on his face!
Although he had low-grade talent, he could still cultivate!
“Medium talent!”
After hearing the test result of the next person, the round-faced man’s joy faded again. He wished he had medium talent too.
As the tests progressed, some fluctuated between joy and disappointment.
At one point, someone was tested to have high-grade talent, astonishing countless onlookers.
That person was then personally welcomed into the fold by Wei Changjie, the master of Qiyun Peak.
As fellow new disciples, the differences in their statuses and treatment became apparent, and many cast envious glances at that person.
Ji Yang was no exception; though he had little knowledge of cultivation, he recognized the current gap in talent as he watched this unfold.
Having no talent was undoubtedly the worst outcome.
Next came low-grade talent, then medium-grade talent, and high-grade talent.
Perhaps there was even higher talent yet to be seen, but none had appeared so far. Still, having tested so many people, the fact that a person with high-grade talent was personally taken under a peak master’s wing showed just how rare high-grade talent was, making it worth the attention of the peak leaders.
Watching the ongoing tests, Ji Yang felt increasingly anxious.
His wish was simple; he did not aspire for high-grade talent but only hoped for low-grade talent, so he could remain in the immortal gate.
After all, he had a special ability, so a lower talent wouldn’t scare him.
Finally, Ji Yang gritted his teeth, making a firm decision.
If he truly had no talent, even if he became a servant, he had to pray to stay in the immortal gate.
Only by staying in the immortal gate could he touch a broader world!
In such a large immortal gate, there couldn’t possibly be no ordinary servants, right?
“Lu Wuxue!”
“Supreme talent!!”
After hearing Elder Liu’s delighted voice, everyone fixed their gaze on the shining Qualification Stone, and cast envious looks at the girl beside it.
The girl wore a turquoise dress, her face like white jade and appearance radiant, but her whole demeanor was cold, clearly a serious and icy person.
However, upon hearing her talent result, a bright smile appeared on her face, shining like the sun after rain.
This made it a little easier for many to accept.
Seeing this scene, Ji Yang couldn’t help but mutter inwardly.
“Damn pretty face lovers!”
“Little girl, would you like to take me as your master?”
From the high platform, a gentle woman’s voice softly came through.
No one was surprised, even the ones with high-grade talent were taken under a peak master’s wing.
Wait a minute, when they heard the next part of her sentence, everyone was stunned again; the previous high-grade talent was only taken under the wing, but now a peak master wanted to personally accept a disciple!
Jealousy flared up in everyone’s eyes once more.
Before the girl could respond, another voice sounded from the other end of the platform:
“Yaoji, that’s too much! During the last recruitment, you already took a supreme talent disciple; don’t steal this one and let me have her for Denglong Peak!”
“Hao Tian, don’t you steal her either; I think this little girl would do better under Shengquan Peak! My Shengquan Peak has a spirit spring for bathing, extending life and preserving youth!”
“Pah! Your spring water is useless.”
“Rubbish! You’re just too thick-skinned to soak in it!”
Watching the peak masters quarrel like they were bargaining at a market, the crowd below clenched their fists in jealousy! Why weren’t they the supreme talents?
“Master, say something!”
Denglong Peak’s master, Hao Tian, turned his gaze to Li Daoyi, who sat calmly in the middle.
The other peak masters also looked toward the headmaster, which made Li Daoyi feel quite troubled. He was indeed the headmaster, but he didn’t want to offend the other peak masters.
After a moment of thought, Li Daoyi said:
“You all keep arguing without any result; why don’t we let her choose for herself?”
“Hmph.”
Upon hearing the headmaster’s mediating words, the others quickly began to win over the girl.
In the end, Lu Wuxue chose Wangxia Peak! Which was the very first peak master to speak, Yaoji!
After accepting Lu Wuxue, Yaoji smiled brightly and said:
“I won’t compete with you for her anymore; there might be other phenomenal talents to come!”
The peak masters who didn’t get to take her snorted, thinking it wasn’t easy for phenomenal talents to appear, and having one in a generation was already rare. Yet, all the peak masters still looked below with hopeful eyes, waiting quietly.
Seeing Lu Wuxue find her place, Elder Liu then began to continue the tests, showing no signs of annoyance for being interrupted, instead wearing a smile.
This damn talented treatment!
“Next, Ji Yang!”
Still standing by and observing, Ji Yang was taken aback when he heard his name, then quickly reacted and walked toward the testing platform.
When Ji Yang placed his palm on the Qualification Stone, his emotions fluctuated, and he couldn’t help but whisper:
“Low-grade talent, low-grade talent, low-grade talent!”
Elder Liu, standing nearby and hearing Ji Yang’s mumblings, was somewhat distracted; it was the first time he saw someone pray to be of low-grade talent.
When Elder Liu refocused and looked at the Qualification Stone, after Ji Yang placed his hand on it, the stone remained dull, clearly indicating a lack of cultivation talent.
This led Elder Liu to silently speculate; it seemed this boy already had self-awareness.
Meanwhile, Ji Yang looked at the stone with no reaction and felt bitter.
What a damn useless start!
It seemed the only hope left was to pray to stay and see if he could become a servant!
“Heh!”
“A farmer wants to become an immortal?”
“Even if he miraculously made it through the first two rounds, so what? He still has no talent!”
“Exactly!”
Laughter and mockery erupted from below, as Ji Yang had ranked above them in the previous two assessments due to his outstanding physical abilities.
“No…”
Just as Elder Liu was about to announce the result, the sky above suddenly darkened, and clouds gathered ominously.
