Chapter 164: Magic Mirror, Oh Magic Mirror

Looking at the immobilizing mirror in his hand, Ji Yang appeared deep in thought.

Earlier, when he used it, he felt that this magical tool was incomplete. Now it seemed that this was not an illusion; the mirror was indeed not whole.

But even in its imperfect state, it was still superior to common treasures, perhaps even better. This mirror was extraordinary.

If it were complete, he could only imagine the kind of power it might have.

Despite its impressive power, it also had a weakness—it consumed a tremendous amount of spiritual power.

With Ji Yang’s current level of spiritual power, he couldn’t supply it fully. The moment he fixed the mine earlier, if the immobilizing mirror hadn’t absorbed many Superior flying swords, he might have been buried alive.

Additionally, Ancient magical tools have another drawback: they cannot be stored in a dantian. Some Ancient magical tools even require special control mantras to be mastered.

As for the causal fishing rod within the sect, the sect had already investigated it, which is why Ji Yang could easily control it.

Again focusing on the ancient copper mirror in his hand, Ji Yang chuckled lightly:

"Immobilizing mirror? What a dreadful name. I think ‘Magic Mirror’ sounds better."

"Magic mirror, oh magic mirror, who do you think is the most handsome person in the Cultivation World?"

Seeing no reaction from the ancient copper mirror, Ji Yang murmured:

"Not coming out, huh?"

"Come here, Little Black, over here!"

While catching bugs in the spiritual field, Little Black heard Ji Yang’s call, wagging his tail and running over, stretching his head to rub against Ji Yang’s leg.

He understood that until his wings had fully developed, he still had to act like a dog.

"Come, make a mark!"

Ji Yang tossed the copper mirror on the ground, addressing Little Black.

Little Black felt puzzled, but he obediently followed Ji Yang’s command.

Just as Little Black prepared to back up to make his mark, a slight tremor came from the ancient copper mirror, and an invisible force suddenly knocked Little Black aside.

"Hey, kid, don’t go too far!"

A voice filled with exasperation came from the mirror; it was the middle-aged man who had died at Ji Yang’s hands before.

Seeing the copper mirror speaking, Ji Yang smiled slightly:

"And if I have gone too far? You can just come out and fight me."

After his words, the mirror fell into silence, followed by the middle-aged man’s calm reply:

"I thought I was hiding well. How did you discover me?"

"Nothing much. I just prefer to take precautions. With something unknown like this, of course, I have to examine it carefully. Coincidentally, the recent Calamity Clouds helped me quite a bit."

"I see. I wondered why you placed me in an empty storage bag; it seems that the trace of thunder earlier was not an accidental intrusion but rather a test you initiated. I can’t complain about my defeat."

The middle-aged man’s voice echoed with a hint of lament.

However, his tone shifted suddenly:

"I’m just not coming out. What are you going to do about it?"

Ji Yang chuckled lightly:

"It’s just a remnant soul. What does it matter if you hide in the mirror? Do you really think an Ancient magical tool can save your life?"

"This mirror is optional for me."

Upon hearing Ji Yang’s words, the middle-aged man in the copper mirror fell silent again. Indeed, if he were a greedy person for treasures, he might have found a way to survive in the mirror. But since Ji Yang didn’t even want the mirror, how could he live?

Back then, he had delayed, only to give Ji Yang the illusion that he wanted to survive, trying to pull a fast one and hide his true intentions, but he never expected Ji Yang to notice the clues.

He had never seen someone as dull as Ji Yang, who seemed only interested in mining, yet had quite a few clever ideas.

At that moment, he regretted greatly how he had picked this person; he truly felt blind!

Now, with no other options left, the middle-aged man tried once more:

"This mirror is incomplete, only half of it. The other half is called the Soul Fixing Mirror! When the two are combined, they can rival a Heavenly Communication Artifact, freezing everything in the world and cutting off the river of time. Such a treasure, are you sure you’re not tempted?"

"And the other half’s location is unknown to anyone, but I know where it is. If you find this item and merge the two mirrors, at that time, no one in the Cultivation World will…"

Ji Yang interrupted his speech, shaking his head:

"Enough, enough! Quit bragging. If this broken mirror is as amazing as you claim, I would have seen you become a True Immortal or call upon the wind and rain, yet here you are, hiding in this mirror like a mere ghost, barely clinging to life. At this quality, I’d not even pick it up off the ground!"

The middle-aged man was left speechless, wanting to argue but unsure of how to respond.

Finally, he could only murmur:

"If it weren’t impressive, how could it have defeated me before?"

Ji Yang nodded:

"Fine, I can’t investigate your past, but your future ends here!"

"Is this your last word?"

"Wait!"

Seeing Ji Yang about to act, the middle-aged man hurriedly spoke:

"Kid, while you may be talented, your current realm is low, and your knowledge is shallow!"

"The Cultivation World is vast and boundless, with countless powerful cultivators, strange True Spirits, and many forbidden places. You may stick to your sect for now, but you will eventually go out. If you’re still this arrogant then, you’ll end up dead from your own pride."

Ji Yang nodded:

"That’s a fair point, but you don’t need to worry about that. After you turn into a vengeful spirit, just watch me from the heavens!"

"I almost forgot; you only have a remnant soul now. It seems you won’t have that opportunity."

"…"

"I! I can help you!"

"I have survived for thousands of years, read countless texts, traveled to various places, and know many secrets. Although the world changes, the essence remains the same."

"Haven’t you heard the saying that having an elder in the home is like having a treasure?"

"Here’s the thing: I am willing to assist you for ten years. After ten years, you can let me go, and the mirror will belong to you!"

After hearing the middle-aged man’s proposal, Ji Yang fell into silence.

This was a system hidden grandpa, a standard configuration for the protagonist.

As for this old grandpa, it was optional; he needed to think carefully.

Seeing Ji Yang silent, the middle-aged man gritted his teeth:

"Twenty years! Not a day more!"

Ji Yang continued to remain silent.

"Thirty years! This is my final bottom line!"

Ji Yang did not respond.

"Forty years! Anything more, and you might as well kill me!"

At this moment, Ji Yang finally broke free from his thoughts, bewildered:

"Huh? What about forty years?"

The middle-aged man was left speechless; this damn mining kid!

Ji Yang didn’t dwell on it anymore, simply picked up the copper mirror again, smiling as he said:

"Magic mirror, oh magic mirror, who do you think is the most handsome person in the Cultivation World?"

The copper mirror fell into silence for a moment, then the middle-aged man’s reluctant voice emerged:

"Of course it’s… you…"

Hearing this praise, Ji Yang’s face lit up with a gentle smile, and he replied lightly:

"I’m happy you can say that, but I don’t quite like the tone of your voice."
