Chapter 10: Cultivation? Why Not Mine?
“Take this stuff! You’re at the first level of Qi Refinement, so you need to mine one stone of Ziying ore each day!”
With those words, the big man tossed down an iron pick and a storage bag, then turned to leave.
One stone?
That’s not too much. When he was tricked into the black mine, he had to mine two stones every day. Given his physical condition, he could easily handle several stones, not just one.
However, seeing the sweat-soaked individuals around him, Ji Yang felt that the Ziying ore was likely different from the ores he had mined before.
Ji Yang didn’t hesitate; he had come here to mine, so why wait any longer?
He picked up the iron pick and was ready to get to work.
But as he lifted the pick, he realized that although it looked small, it was surprisingly heavy, weighing at least several dozen pounds.
For an ordinary person, just lifting it would be quite a struggle, let alone mining!
“Hey, this iron pick isn’t an ordinary one; it’s a special tool used for mining and requires us to channel our energy into it to use,” said a disheveled youth nearby who had paused his work to offer a warning.
“Thank you,” Ji Yang replied, nodding in gratitude before channeling his energy into the iron pick.
Sure enough, with the energy injected, the pick became much lighter in his hand.
It seemed that for those at the first level of Qi Refinement, the daily task was one stone; for those at higher levels, they probably needed to mine even more.
Ji Yang swung the pick down.
“Bang.”
As a small chunk of Ziying ore was extracted, he also consumed a fair amount of energy.
But Ji Yang’s eyes were filled with joy when he saw a flash of white light on the ground as he mined.
Taking advantage of the time to collect the ore, he absorbed that white spark into his body.
Vitality +1.
Sure enough, high-quality ore was different; he could increase his attributes with just a simple swing!
This amount of vitality would have taken him several days to achieve before.
With newfound motivation, Ji Yang became even more excited, swinging his pick with vigor!

The commotion from Ji Yang drew the attention of other miners, causing them to stop and look at him in surprise:
“Is he really not a fool?”
“I’ve never seen someone so eager even after being punished!”
Many people looked at Ji Yang as if he were foolish, while some felt admiration. They were all facing punishment, but this junior’s attitude made them feel ashamed.
“However, with his cultivation level at the first level of Qi Refinement and his energy, he probably won’t last even half an hour doing this.”
Some noticed Ji Yang’s level and shook their heads.
Mining requires method and skill; using one’s energy carelessly would likely prevent him from completing his daily task.
Indeed, after a short while of mining, Ji Yang stopped.
This caused others to burst into laughter:
“I told you!”
“What a fool!”
However, they didn’t know that Ji Yang stopped not because he couldn’t mine anymore, but because a green light appeared before him.
Ji Yang reached down to pick up the deeper-colored chunk of Ziying ore he had just mined.
A prompt appeared before him.
Superior flying sword +1.
It was actually a magical artifact! And a superior one at that.
This was much more advanced than an introductory flying sword! What a profit!
But he had never found anything like this while mining before. Did it have to do with the type of ore?
Where should he keep it?
Ji Yang quickly fell into confusion, but then he was surprised to find that he could maintain the green light form. When needed, he could transform it into a flying sword. That made it much more convenient and would keep it hidden from others.
With no worries left, Ji Yang continued mining.
Once again, the sound of Ji Yang swinging his pick echoed through the mine.
This left the others who had mocked him stunned. Didn’t they say this guy had no energy left?
How could he be mining so vigorously?
What a surprise!
Ji Yang was unaware of their thoughts, but he did realize that his remaining energy was indeed quite low.
Without the boost from his energy, the iron pick also became heavy once more.
However, this didn’t trouble Ji Yang. He had farmed and mined for three years; even though he hadn’t gained much in cultivation, he had absorbed plenty of white light spots.
His strength, stamina, and endurance had all greatly improved; it wouldn’t be an exaggeration to say he had innate strength.
So even without using energy, he could easily swing the iron pick.
Without energy, he would rely on sheer strength!
After all, he couldn’t miss this precious chance to mine; this was a celestial ore! Who knows when he would get the chance to come back?
What if Ye Wuchen noticed he was missing and came searching for him the next moment?
After all, he was the sect’s genius, the only true disciple of Jingtan Peak!
He certainly had to make the most of these three months!
Especially this feeling of becoming stronger every moment, which was hard to resist!
That was a thrill he couldn’t experience during regular training!

Before long, Ji Yang stopped again, a hint of surprise flashing in his eyes.
A blue light flickered ahead, a glow he was very familiar with.
Ji Yang reached out to absorb the blue light point.
Cultivation level +1
As expected.
In three years, he had only gained a total of 8 points in cultivation, but in just half a day, he had already earned 1 point.
He was making a huge profit; he needed to quickly stack his cultivation level to a usable point to test the effect of his special ability.
Ji Yang felt that this way was surely faster than burying himself in hard training.
Then Ji Yang began to dig vigorously again.
The others were stunned once more!
Has this guy taken some medicine?
He recovered so quickly!

After mining for so long, Ji Yang gained a rough understanding of the rules for the rewards his special ability provided.
The white light points increased his four attributes.
The green light points were for the superior flying swords.
The blue light points were for cultivation level.
The purple light points should be for magical abilities.
Perhaps there were others, but Ji Yang hadn’t encountered them yet.
However, as long as he stayed true to his original intention, Ji Yang believed he would eventually come across them.
Although he didn’t gain rewards every time he mined, on average, one light point would appear every three swings of the pick.
The white light points were the most common, the green light points were rare, and the blue light points were even more scarce.
These were three of the most common types of light points.
Unfortunately, after mining for so long, he hadn’t encountered any purple light points again. It seemed that magical abilities weren’t so easy to obtain; he also wondered what he had caught that day by the river.
After absorbing the light points, Ji Yang continued mining.
The others had grown accustomed to this and admitted they had underestimated Ji Yang, though some still bet that Ji Yang would definitely be unable to continue the next day.
The recovery speed of spiritual energy wasn’t fast; the energy spent mining during the day could only be replenished by absorbing spiritual energy from the earth at night. Additionally, mining for a whole day would exhaust one’s vitality and spirit, and even though they were cultivators, their bodies would feel fatigue.
Moreover, during mining, there wasn’t much extra time for other cultivation, which put them behind other practitioners. For 90% of cultivators, mining felt like a punishment.
