Chapter 710: The Source of Danger
“Don’t touch these statues casually. Since they are alive, any external stimulus could potentially awaken them,” the knight reminded.
Wu Xiangnan moved among the statues, carefully observing each one’s expression, gaze, and even the direction of their movements. After a long while, he stood among the many statues and turned his head in a certain direction, puzzled.
“What did you find?” The knight asked when he saw Wu Xiangnan deep in thought.
“The movements of these statues are mostly running or slightly reaching out with their arms. There’s something in their eyes… longing? Are they competing for something?” Wu Xiangnan speculated, staring in that direction. He continued, “Look at the direction most of their movements are aimed at; it’s over there.”
“What’s over there?”
“I don’t know. Perhaps we should go take a look.”
The three of them navigated through the many grotesque statues. The deeper they went, the denser the statues became. In this demon shrine’s ruins, there were at least over forty “mysteries” transformed into stone statues, all exuding a terrifying aura.
As they ventured deeper, a small black temple finally came into view.
The temple was only two or three meters high, roughly the size of an ordinary basketball court. Its pitch-black walls and ancient stone pillars supported a Japanese shrine roof. In the center of the shrine stood a towering statue, adorned with golden rings and a jade pendant hanging from its back, looking incredibly majestic.
Its left palm faced upward, as if holding something invisible, but the space between its palms was empty. In the center of its right palm floated a silver chaotic sphere, emitting an eerie, illusory light in the dark shrine, rolling as if it were alive.
The moment Wu Xiangnan and the knight saw the silver sphere, for some reason, their eyes were glued to it, unable to look away. An unprecedented desire surged within them, a primal instinct stronger than survival and reproduction—a species’ yearning for evolution and liberation from the shackles of the mortal body!
Deep within their hearts, an incredibly strong thought compelled them to obtain that silver sphere!
They instinctively reached out their hands, wanting to grasp the silver sphere…
At that moment, a pair of fair hands simultaneously grabbed both of their wrists.
Standing before them was Jialan, dressed in a deep blue Han robe, firmly gripping their wrists with a serious expression in her eyes. “You can’t touch this!”
Upon hearing this, Wu Xiangnan and the knight’s dazed eyes showed no signs of change. They couldn’t control the desire deep within them, and their hands instinctively struggled against Jialan, trying to break free from her grip to seize the silver sphere.
Wu Xiangnan was manageable; Jialan could control him with one hand. However, the knight’s strength was too great. As one of the top Red Lotus Knights within London’s “human circle,” his physical prowess had long surpassed what an ordinary person could comprehend. Moreover, Jialan was currently using only one hand, making it difficult for her to stop him.
The knight shook off Jialan’s arm, and with a flick of his wrist, a clear stream of water shot out like silk, swirling toward the silver sphere at the center of the statues!
His eyes were filled with excitement and longing!
Seeing this, Jialan seemed to recall something unpleasant. Gritting her teeth, she suddenly pressed a button on the black box in her hand, and the golden spear, “Tianque,” automatically sprang out, instantly gripped in her hand, and thrust toward the knight’s palm!
The sharp tip of the spear pierced through the knight’s palm, blood splattering out. The intense pain jolted the knight awake from his dazed state, and a look of terror flashed in his eyes.
“Sorry,” Jialan said, her eyes filled with determination.
Whoosh—!!
A snow-white leg whistled through the air, striking heavily against his chest. The terrifying force sent him flying, crashing into a deep gray wall over twenty meters away, landing on the ground.
Almost simultaneously, the clear stream of water touched the silver sphere. The chaotic, rolling silver sphere seemed to come alive, a mysterious silver light spreading through the air along the water flow, but abruptly stopping at the end of the stream.
If Jialan hadn’t kicked the knight away just now, that silver light would have likely entered his body by now.
At this moment, Wu Xiangnan had also awakened. He stared in shock at the silver sphere, then glanced at the knight, who had been injured and kicked away by Jialan, a look of confusion crossing his face.
“What’s going on? What happened?!” Wu Xiangnan looked at Jialan, who was holding the spear.
“This thing cannot be touched,” Jialan said seriously. “At least not by you. It’s incompatible with your bodies and contains impurities. If you recklessly absorb it, you’ll die within three months, and there’s no cure.”
Wu Xiangnan was taken aback. “What exactly is this thing?”
Jialan glanced back at the silver sphere, her brow furrowing tightly. “This is… some kind of ‘origin.’”
“Origin?”
“It’s the soil that nurtures laws. Once absorbed, it grants the possibility of becoming a god without risk, and the entire level of one’s life will be elevated, no longer belonging to the simple category of ‘human,’” Jialan explained.
“Becoming a god without risk!” Wu Xiangnan was stunned by these words.
He turned to look at the grotesque statues yearning to approach the temple, as if he understood something. “So, these things are all here to snatch the ‘origin’?”
“Most likely. The ‘origin’ signifies the evolution of life levels. No creature can resist its temptation.”
Hearing this, Wu Xiangnan was taken aback. He turned to Jialan, “What about you? Why weren’t you attracted to it?”
Jialan avoided Wu Xiangnan’s gaze, pressed her lips together, and remained silent.
“Ahem…” The knight staggered to his feet from the corner, wiping the blood from the corner of his mouth as he asked, “‘Origin’? Why have I never heard of it… Where did you learn about this?”
Jialan remained silent.
Seeing that Jialan wouldn’t speak, Wu Xiangnan and the knight had no intention of pressing further. They exchanged a glance, a look of helplessness in their eyes.
Regardless, if Jialan hadn’t stopped them just now, they would have likely absorbed this “origin” into their bodies and awaited their demise…
Just as Wu Xiangnan was about to say something, his gaze swept over the shimmering silver stream on the ground beside him, and suddenly his pupils constricted!
He saw that the stream mixed with silver light was flowing along the ruins’ crevices, streaming into the scattered group of statues. The silver illusionary light surged in the air, and all the statues present in this ruin suddenly began to tremble violently!
The earth rumbled!
