Chapter 702: Land of Chaos and Disorder
In the deep sea.
Lin Qiye and Ayumi Kyoukai slowly descended, the beam of their flashlight cutting through the pitch-black water, landing on the rocks at the bottom.
They stayed close to the seabed, searching their surroundings. Lin Qiye’s mental energy was fully extended, constantly monitoring the environment like a radar. Finally, he seemed to sense something and gestured to Ayumi Kyoukai.
Ayumi Kyoukai nodded and followed Lin Qiye as they swam in a certain direction.
After wandering along the seabed for a long time, the flashlight beam suddenly deepened, and the rocks beneath them vanished, replaced by a massive underwater pit with a radius of several hundred meters.
The outline of the pit was circular, extending downward. Standing beside the pit and looking down, the flashlight beam illuminated the dark water, but it was impossible to see the bottom of the pit.
The two exchanged glances and nodded simultaneously before leaping into the pit.
In the endless darkness and water, they had no idea how long they had been falling. Since entering the pit, the physical rules seemed to have mysteriously changed; the buoyancy of the water did not slow their descent but instead accelerated it.
Eventually, Lin Qiye and Ayumi Kyoukai could no longer control their speed of descent, nor could they gauge how deep they had sunk.
Time passed second by second until they suddenly felt a dizzying spin, and their bodies were ejected from the water, arcing through the air before landing heavily on the ground.
Ayumi Kyoukai frowned, slowly rising from the ground while wearing cumbersome diving gear, her eyes scanning the surroundings with confusion beneath her diving mask.
The environment was pitch black, but through the flashlight beam, she could roughly discern that they were in a low cave, and the place they had just emerged from was a vast deep pool about thirty meters away.
“Ha…”
Lin Qiye removed his mask, took a gentle breath to confirm there was enough air, and began to take off his diving gear.
After a moment, the two approached the deep pool, carefully sweeping the flashlight across the dark surface.
“This deep pool connects to the sea area we came from?” Ayumi Kyoukai asked, somewhat puzzled.
“It should,” Lin Qiye nodded slightly. “After passing through that strange underwater pit, we were directly thrown here… But I feel like we sank quite deep in the pit; this place might not just be the seabed anymore, but more like an independent space.”
“My master said the same thing,” Ayumi Kyoukai sighed. “However, he never figured out what this ruin actually is.”
“That’s our task now,” Lin Qiye said, looking toward the path on the other side of the cave. “In any case, let’s move forward.”
The two slowly walked through the narrow cave, Ayumi Kyoukai hanging the “Yubeng” at her waist, her hand resting on the hilt of her knife, always alert to their surroundings.
Although they couldn’t use the “Hozu” knife here, if she only drew the knife to use its techniques without activating the Hozu’s abilities, the knife wouldn’t be drawn away by mysterious forces. This was merely a rumor she had heard from her master, but she had no intention of testing it.
After all, there was only one “Yubeng.” If that knife were sucked deep into the ruins, retrieving it would not be easy.
Fortunately, they encountered no enemies along the way.
“We’re nearing the end.”
After walking for a long time through the cave, Lin Qiye sensed a change ahead with his mental energy and spoke up.
Ayumi Kyoukai nodded, about to say something when Lin Qiye’s expression suddenly changed, and he quickly reached out to stop her from advancing!
“Wait! Don’t go forward.”
Ayumi Kyoukai’s foot, which had been raised, slowly returned to the ground as she asked in confusion, “What’s wrong?”
Lin Qiye did not answer but moved to one side of the cave passage, crouching down slowly. The flashlight beam illuminated a corner where a thumb-sized miniature laser emitter was hidden in a groove, and on the opposite wall, there was another such device.
These two emitters were small and black, making them nearly impossible to detect in the pitch-black cave. If it weren’t for Lin Qiye’s mental energy perception, they would have definitely overlooked their existence.
Ayumi Kyoukai crouched down, curious, and asked, “What is this?”
“An infrared alarm,” Lin Qiye recognized the device and frowned as he explained. “Once someone passes through here, it will trigger an alarm signal to notify the person who set it up.”
“This was placed here by someone?”
“Of course, and it hasn’t been here for long,” Lin Qiye said with certainty.
He looked up toward the cave’s end, paused, and slowly spoke, “It seems someone arrived at the ruins before us and possesses professional counter-tracking knowledge and skills…”
“Is it that mysterious person who bought the diving equipment?”
“Most likely, and he is quite alert. While we sensed something unusual, he should have already begun to suspect us. This alarm was probably set up to guard against us.”
Ayumi Kyoukai’s brow furrowed, feeling that things were becoming troublesome.
In such a perilous ruin, there was an additional mysterious person who seemed neither friend nor foe, and the other party possessed strong combat abilities… This was undoubtedly bad news for him, as he couldn’t use the Hozu knife.
If he hadn’t brought Lin Qiye along this time, he would have likely been completely exposed by now.
“What should we do now?”
“Disable it; we can’t alert the enemy,” Lin Qiye replied calmly. “I learned about this in training camp; give me two minutes.”
Next, Ayumi Kyoukai watched as Lin Qiye skillfully dismantled the infrared alarm device. He slowly stood up, looking toward the cave’s end, and thoughtfully said:
“As long as we don’t trigger the alarm, he shouldn’t be too alert. Now both of us are in the dark… It depends on who reveals themselves first.”
After disabling the alarm, the two continued forward, passing through the narrow passage and stepping onto the ground covered in scorch marks and debris, where the environment had completely changed.
In the gloomy sky, a hazy light blue glow twisted down from the clouds like auroras, with one broken high-rise after another buried among the rubble—some half-submerged, others completely upside down, like barbs piercing the ground.
The asphalt road was littered with gravel, shards of glass, broken furniture, and dried deep-sea corals… Countless fragmented items seemed to have completely defied gravity, inexplicably hovering in the air.
This place resembled a chaotic garbage dump, filled with remnants of a city and the corpses of the deep sea, yet bizarrely fused together.
It was as if the remnants of human society, which should have sunk to the bottom of the deep sea, had been swept here by some mysterious force.
