Chapter 700: Two Prophecies
The first round begins with Hoshimi Shouta.
This time, the game is a simple game of rock-paper-scissors. To Lin Qiye’s surprise, Hoshimi Shouta actually managed to win against Wujie.
Seeing Hoshimi Shouta’s excited expression and Wujie’s ambiguous smile, Lin Qiye could basically guess that Wujie had let him win.
As a powerful being with the ability to glimpse fate, how could she possibly lose to a high school student in rock-paper-scissors?
However, from the fact that Wujie let him win, it was clear that she cared about Hoshimi Shouta’s feelings… Could it be that the rumor Rain Gong Qinghui mentioned was true?
Lin Qiye glanced at the innocent and naive Hoshimi Shouta, then looked at Wujie, who was sitting beside him with a smile but saying nothing, and his expression became subtle.
“Next, it’s our turn.” Wujie turned to Lin Qiye, “So, Lin Qiye, are you ready to start today’s game?”
“I’m ready.”
“Today’s game is… guessing heads or tails.” Wujie took out a coin and handed it to Hoshimi Shouta, saying, “First, we guess heads or tails, and then Shouta will toss the coin. The person who guesses correctly, based on which side lands face up, wins.”
A simple game of luck…
It seems Wujie really wants to win this round?
The corners of Lin Qiye’s mouth lifted slightly; unfortunately, this game suited him perfectly!
“Alright.”
“To be fair, you guess first, and I’ll guess the remaining side.” Wujie generously gave the first move to Lin Qiye.
“Okay.” Lin Qiye nodded, “I guess it will stand on the ground.”
Wujie: …?
Wujie froze for a moment, “Are you sure? Standing on the ground?”
“I’m sure.”
“…Alright, then I guess it will be face up.”
Both of them turned to look at Hoshimi Shouta.
The latter swallowed nervously, gripping the coin in his hand, seemingly weighing its weight, trying to make it stand on the ground… This was quite a challenge for him!
“It’s okay, just toss it however you like.” Lin Qiye noticed his thoughts and smiled.
With Merlin backing him up, Lin Qiye didn’t think he would lose. After all, the current Merlin was no longer the crazy one who had just entered the mental hospital; she was a true goddess of magic and prophecy who had regained 90% of her power!
Hoshimi Shouta nodded, took a deep breath, and tossed the coin into the air.
A glimmer flickered in Wujie’s eyes as she confirmed that the fate trajectory she saw was correct, and her heart relaxed.
This time, Lin Qiye wouldn’t be able to win against her.
Just as this thought arose, a strong wind blew in through the unpatched wall, causing the coin in mid-air to sway slightly, its trajectory shifting as it fell toward the ground!
Clang clang clang—!
The coin bounced twice on the ground, rolled for a while, and finally wedged itself firmly in the gap between the tatami mats, standing upright!
Wujie’s pupils suddenly constricted.
She looked up at Lin Qiye, her eyes filled with shock and confusion.
She couldn’t understand why the fate trajectory she had predicted had suddenly changed. Even if Lin Qiye had tampered with the coin during its flight, she should have been able to foresee it. But why had she seen nothing this time?
Feeling Wujie’s gaze, Lin Qiye smiled slightly and said nothing.
Praise the goddess of magic!
“It really stood up!!” Hoshimi Shouta exclaimed excitedly as he stood up from the ground, “Two wins in a row! Two chances for prophecy!”
Wujie stared at Lin Qiye for a moment, realizing she couldn’t see through this man at all. After a long while, she slowly averted her gaze and sighed deeply.
She couldn’t tease Shouta today…
“Alright, you both listen carefully.” Two unusual glimmers flashed in Wujie’s golden eyes. She paused for a moment before slowly speaking:
“The two prophecies are: ‘At the base of the statue of the spider woman, lies the key to escape the realm of death,’ and ‘At the end of the Aurora River, sits the supreme existence that transcends past and future.'”
After hearing these two sentences, both Lin Qiye and Rain Gong Qinghui were taken aback.
What do these two prophecies mean…?
At first glance, it was completely unclear what they were saying.
“The prophecies have only a 50% accuracy rate; I believe you both know that.” Wujie added, “It’s not that I don’t want to tell you the correct prophecies; it’s a flaw of this blade itself. I am merely the soul of the blade and cannot change it.”
“I understand.” Rain Gong Qinghui nodded, “These two prophecies are enough.”
Having received the two prophecies, Lin Qiye and Rain Gong Qinghui quickly packed their things and left the house.
Since the location was quite far from here and they were carrying diving equipment, Rain Gong Qinghui had rented a van in advance, and they drove toward the coastline under the cover of night.
“What do you think of those two prophecies?” Rain Gong Qinghui asked Lin Qiye, frowning as he drove.
Lin Qiye pondered for a moment, “The first prophecy is quite clear; it points to the location of the key to escape from somewhere. There’s nothing more to say about that. The problem lies with the second prophecy…”
“‘At the end of the Aurora River, sits the supreme existence that transcends past and future.'” Rain Gong Qinghui repeated the prophecy, somewhat puzzled, “The end of the Aurora River should refer to a location, but what does ‘the supreme existence that transcends past and future’ mean…?”
“Literally, it should refer to a supreme being that we cannot touch.” Lin Qiye murmured, “However, ‘existing in the past and future’… does that mean it only exists in the past and future but not in the present?”
“A supreme existence that does not exist in the present?” Rain Gong Qinghui shook his head, “I still can’t understand.”
“I can’t deduce what that sentence is referring to either.” Lin Qiye sighed, “Perhaps we will find the answer once we enter the ruins.”
The vehicle sped along the night road, and after about an hour, it slowly stopped near a beach on the eastern coast of Hokkaido.
Two figures got out of the car and walked to the seaside, where the hazy moonlight spilled over the shimmering sea, sparkling like scattered silver.
“The ruins are in the sea?” Lin Qiye asked.
“Yes, if we go two kilometers into the deep sea from this direction, we will reach the entrance to the ruins.”
Lin Qiye nodded, “Let’s put on our gear.”
Under the moonlight, the two of them donned the diving equipment they had purchased and stepped toward the silver-sparkling sea, walking forward step by step. A wave crashed from afar, and in the next moment, their figures completely vanished from the surface of the sea.
The moonlit coast fell into a deep silence once again.
