Chapter 350: Game Meat
Lin Qiye was momentarily stunned, then smiled helplessly and took the clothes from An Qingyu’s hands.
“Thank you.”
Although Lin Qiye’s physical condition had significantly improved after advancing to the Chuan realm, surpassing that of an ordinary person, he was still a mortal. Prolonged exposure to the harsh cold inevitably made his movements somewhat stiff.
Moreover, the forest at dawn was prone to frost, and wearing only a thin shirt would soon leave him soaked with dew, making matters even more troublesome.
Before long, Baili Pangpang had packed up the entire campsite into his pocket and modified the large iron box originally used for the barbecue grill to fit the disabled giant ant inside for easier transport.
The four of them finished packing and ventured deeper into the primitive forest once again.
Every half hour, Lin Qiye would open the iron box, using the dark energy of the giant ant to read the route ahead and continuously adjust their direction.
After about an hour and a half of walking, the little girl on Cao Yuan’s back suddenly trembled, as if she had dreamed of something terrifying, and abruptly opened her eyes.
She let out a startled cry and instinctively began to struggle in fear.
The four of them stopped simultaneously, turning to look at Cao Yuan’s back. Baili Pangpang quickly stepped forward and comforted her:
“Little sister, don’t be afraid! The monsters have been chased away by the big brothers!”
The little girl looked around suspiciously, not seeing any trace of the giant ant. Her expression gradually softened, and after carefully examining the four of them, she asked with some confusion:
“You are… the big brothers from the train?”
“That’s us.” Baili Pangpang grinned. “Little sister, what’s your name?”
The little girl hesitated for a moment before timidly replying, “My name is Li Tingting.”
“Tingting, huh…” Baili Pangpang leaned closer to Li Tingting, speaking kindly. “Don’t be afraid, we’re not bad people. We’re tourists here to film a documentary in the forest, and once we’re done, we’ll take you back.”
Li Tingting looked at Baili Pangpang, somewhat skeptical.
“Li Deyang from the Anta County Forestry Bureau is your dad, right?” Lin Qiye smiled and asked.
Upon hearing the name Li Deyang, Li Tingting’s eyes lit up. “You know my dad?”
“We’re good friends. Don’t you remember? We visited the Forestry Bureau yesterday.”
As soon as this was said, Li Tingting’s expression completely relaxed, and her gaze towards Lin Qiye and the others held a bit more trust.
Baili Pangpang silently gave Lin Qiye a thumbs-up.
Then, as if he remembered something, he took out a pizza from the thermos box in his backpack and handed it to Li Tingting, smiling as he said, “This is your breakfast, have some.”
Li Tingting caught the scent of the pizza and swallowed hard. After a night of fright and cold, she was already starving. At that moment, she had no more reservations and took the pizza, devouring it eagerly.
“Hey, eat slowly, no one’s going to snatch it from you.” Baili Pangpang chuckled, pulling out two thermos cups from his backpack.
“Coffee or milk?”
…
The faint light of dawn gradually emerged from the other side of the mountains and forests.
Li Deyang, draped in a cloak and carrying a hunting rifle, hurriedly made his way through the forest, his weathered face marked by fatigue and hardship.
Chen Han followed closely behind, her cheeks flushed from the cold wind.
The two arrived at a relatively open area of the forest, following the footprints on the ground.
Li Deyang looked at the chaotic footprints in front of him, frowning slightly as he bent down to examine them closely.
“Uncle Li, there are signs of a tent being set up here,” Chen Han said after walking around. “They must have rested here for a while.”
Li Deyang stood up from the ground and nodded.
“The traces here are too chaotic to discern much, but the footprints leading into the forest are quite fresh. They must have just left not long ago. If we move at full speed, we should be able to catch up soon.”
Chen Han nodded, and the two resumed their pace, quickly following the direction of the footprints.
After running at full speed for over an hour, four figures gradually appeared in their line of sight.
Just seeing their backs, Li Deyang could confirm that these four were the young people who had come to the Forestry Bureau for a map yesterday afternoon. However, when his gaze fell on one of the young man’s back, his pupils suddenly constricted!
“Tingting!” He shouted loudly, opening his cracked lips.
In the distance, Baili Pangpang and the others simultaneously looked at Lin Qiye, who silently nodded, and the four of them stopped.
“Dad!!”
Li Tingting turned around abruptly, and upon seeing the newcomer, she excitedly jumped down from Cao Yuan’s back and ran towards Li Deyang.
Li Deyang’s lips trembled slightly, and a smile gradually appeared on his face, which had stiffened from the cold wind, as he embraced the running Li Tingting, his strong arms tightly wrapping around her.
“Tingting! How are you? Are you hurt? What about that giant ant?” Li Deyang quickly checked Li Tingting’s body, and after confirming that she had no injuries at all, his heart finally relaxed.
“I’m fine! When I woke up, I was already on Brother Cao’s back!” Li Tingting shook her head, her long braids swaying back and forth.
Li Deyang held Li Tingting and turned to look at the four not far away.
Lin Qiye smiled and waved at him. “We meet again.”
Chen Han and Li Deyang exchanged glances, both seeing the confusion in each other’s eyes. Li Deyang walked over to the four and couldn’t help but ask:
“Did you save Tingting?”
“Yes.” Baili Pangpang nodded.
“Then did you… see anything else?” Li Deyang’s brow furrowed, “For example, a red ant?”
Lin Qiye and the others exchanged glances, shaking their heads in confusion. “What red ant?”
Hearing this, the confusion in Li Deyang’s eyes deepened. “Then how did you find Tingting?”
“We found her in the forest.” Lin Qiye replied firmly.
The other three nodded in agreement.
They certainly couldn’t directly tell Li Deyang that the red giant ant had been turned into a stick and was currently stuffed inside the iron box behind Baili Pangpang…
If Li Deyang found out about this, he would undoubtedly suspect their identities.
“Found her?” Li Deyang was taken aback.
“Yes, we were just walking and happened to see her lying under a tree, so we picked her up.” Baili Pangpang explained while gesturing.
Suddenly, a dull thud came from the iron box behind him, as if something inside was wriggling.
Li Deyang’s gaze immediately fell on the iron box.
Lin Qiye quietly walked over to the iron box and slapped its surface, causing the dull thudding sound inside to abruptly stop. Lin Qiye smiled awkwardly and said, “We caught some wild game along the way, a bit unorthodox, hehehe…”
