Chapter 266: Goodbye Seraph
The grayish-white land seemed endless, with broken meteorite craters scattered around. A pitch-black dome covered the sky, and in that boundless deep space, stars twinkled all around.
Lin Qiye stood in a massive meteorite crater, gazing up at the sky. He saw, on the other side of the horizon, a blue planet slowly rotating.
Most of this planet was shrouded in gray mist; looking around, only the Great Xia and the Arctic Circle remained, untouched by the fog.
Is this… the Moon? Lin Qiye murmured as he looked at the scene before him.
He withdrew his gaze and looked at the statue-like figure in front of him.
The towering figure, over ten meters high, radiated a golden glow. Behind it were enormous wings, as white as snow. The sunlight streamed in from the horizon, casting a golden edge around its wings.
This scene was exactly the same as what he had seen ten years ago.
He had come to the Moon?
Or perhaps… he had returned to a memory, witnessing this scene once more?
Relatively speaking, Lin Qiye believed it was the latter, for when he looked down, he realized that he had no physical form.
He was merely a consciousness here.
Suddenly, the statue-like seraph slowly opened its eyes.
Eyes that burned like a furnace appeared, almost overshadowing the sunlight behind it. An endless divine might surged forth, descending upon the earth.
Instinctively, Lin Qiye closed his eyes; after all, he did not want to go blind again…
“You have come.” An ancient and grand voice echoed in Lin Qiye’s heart.
The seraph did not speak with its mouth but communicated directly through thought.
Is this a memory? Or reality? Lin Qiye pondered in his heart.
“This is the consciousness hidden deep within you, but it is also reality.” The seraph slowly spoke. “Open your eyes. Ten years ago, I burned your eyes to infuse the [Mortal Realm Divine Domain] and divine power into your body. I will not harm you again.”
Upon hearing this, Lin Qiye opened his eyes and stared directly at the seraph. Although the dazzling light caused some pain, he did not go blind again.
“My inner consciousness?” Lin Qiye frowned in confusion.
“Only when you fully inherit my divine ruins will this consciousness appear to answer some of your doubts.” The seraph’s voice echoed in Lin Qiye’s ears.
“What exactly happened?” Lin Qiye asked, frowning. “Why did it disappear when I left Cangnan?”
“Because it should not have existed in the first place.” The seraph calmly replied. “Ten years ago, the entire Cangnan City was erased by the [Shiva’s Curse]. Only you were saved by a girl, becoming the sole survivor.”
“Erased?” Lin Qiye was taken aback. “Are you saying… Cangnan was already destroyed? But if that’s the case, then what about Cangnan City now…”
“It still exists because of you… because of your [Mortal Realm Divine Domain].” The seraph slowly explained. “The so-called [Mortal Realm Divine Domain] is a miracle created between the mortal world, where the dead are revived, and all things are restarted. Everything that is extremely unreasonable belongs to the realm of miracles.”
“This miracle arose because of me and exists because of you.”
“[Mortal Realm Divine Domain]…” Lin Qiye murmured. “So, you created all of this? But why did you do it?”
“I am merely a watcher; I should not interfere with earthly matters.” The seraph seemed to recall something, a faint glow appearing in its eyes. “The reason I did all this was merely a transaction.”
“A transaction?”
“A hundred years ago, when the mist first emerged, and I had just arrived on this moon, someone found me… He called himself the Lingbao Tianzun of the Great Xia.”
The seraph slowly continued. “He made a deal with me, allowing me to choose the sole survivor without any additional conditions when Cangnan City was erased ninety years later, and to transfer my divine power into his body to maintain Cangnan City for another ten years.”
Lin Qiye’s heart trembled.
“Lingbao Tianzun?”
“Isn’t he one of the three deities of the Great Xia mythology?”
“So, the gods of the Great Xia do indeed exist?”
“He had predicted the destruction of Cangnan a hundred years ago and knew that he would survive?”
“So, I don’t want to help you; I am merely fulfilling my promise.” The seraph said lightly. “Now, you have become my agent, possessing the complete [Mortal Realm Divine Domain]. Cangnan City has been maintained in the divine domain for ten years, and my task is complete.”
“Then since it was a transaction, what did Lingbao Tianzun give in return? What conditions did he agree to?” Lin Qiye asked.
The seraph did not answer.
Seeing the seraph’s reaction, Lin Qiye understood that this was not something he could know, so he chose not to ask further.
Suddenly, he seemed to think of something and abruptly raised his head.
“You just said… the dead are revived?” Lin Qiye’s eyes widened. “So, what about the residents of Cangnan City…”
“The [Shiva’s Curse] erased concepts.” The seraph calmly stated. “It erased Cangnan, naturally destroying everything related to Cangnan… including its citizens.”
“The moment their names were written down, all lives within Cangnan would be erased.”
Lin Qiye’s heart felt like it had been struck by lightning, and his face turned pale.
“Ten years ago…”
“Aunt and A-Jin…”
“No, no…”
Lin Qiye opened his mouth, seemingly wanting to say something more, but the figure of the seraph began to fade slowly, and everything around him twisted.
The consciousness lingering in his mind was about to disperse.
“There is still some of my divine power left within you. Before it dissipates, you can still do some things you wish to do…” The seraph’s voice echoed in Lin Qiye’s ears.
Lin Qiye’s spirit plummeted rapidly, and in a daze, he returned to his own body.
Time seemed to have not passed at all; everything that had just happened felt like a dream.
Lin Qiye stared blankly at the disappearing city before him, shaking his head slightly, his face extremely pale. “No, it can’t be…”
Suddenly, a golden light erupted from him, the divine power of the seraph surged, and he effortlessly tore through space, returning to the city.
He stood in front of an empty void, lost in thought.
This should not be the case.
This should have been an old, low house, a corridor plastered with small advertisements, and above the corridor should have been his home…
At home, there should still be his aunt and A-Jin.
He stiffly turned his neck and looked around; the entire old district had turned into an empty lot, not a single brick, tile, or blade of grass remained.
His home was gone.
