Chapter 248: A Lamp from the Master
Beep, beep, beep…
The voice on the other end of the phone rang repeatedly. A few seconds later, a woman’s concerned voice came through.
“Muye? Is that you, Muye?”
Booming thunder—!!
Lightning struck down from the chaotic clouds, and the raging winds swept across the land. At the top of the tallest building in Cangnan City, a man in a cloak sat on the edge, gazing silently at a corner of light outside the city.
After a long pause, he slowly spoke:
“How have you been lately?”
“…Not bad.” The woman fell silent, and after a moment, her voice trembled. “After all these years, you finally dared to call me.”
Chen Muye said nothing.
“Do you know? In these years, I haven’t dared to reject any unknown calls. I kept thinking… what if it was you calling? What if I missed it? What if you wanted to come back… what would I do?” The woman’s voice grew increasingly choked.
“I said on the day of the divorce… I can’t go back.” Chen Muye spoke slowly.
“Why?! Why can’t you?!” The woman cried out hysterically. “You’re a drug enforcement officer! Your job is dangerous! I know! I’m not afraid of death!! I’m willing to take that risk to be with you!”
“But why… after we had a child, did you have to leave me?”
“What happened to you?!”
The woman was in tears. “Do you know? This year, Xiao Yang is in first grade… When he introduces himself in class, he always says his dad is a drug enforcement officer. He’s quite popular at school, but he’s not happy…”
“He’s waiting for you to come back.”
Chen Muye’s grip on the phone tightened. He looked down at his body, a bitter haze clouding his eyes.
“I’m sorry…”
Boom—!!
In the distance, at the edge of the city, a dull explosion echoed.
Chen Muye took a deep breath and slowly spoke into the phone: “In a few days at the shortest, or a month at the longest, a sum of money will be transferred to your account. That money should be enough for you and your child to live comfortably for the rest of your lives…”
“Muye… Muye? What’s wrong with you?” The woman tensed up upon hearing this. “I don’t want your money! I just want you to come back…”
“I’m sorry.”
Before she could finish, Chen Muye hung up the phone. He slowly stood up from the edge of the building, looking down at the city beneath him, murmuring to himself:
“A miracle will eventually come to an end…”
…
Boom—!!
The rumbling sound of cannon fire mixed with the claps of thunder, echoing in the dark sky. Beneath the gloomy sky, countless massive blue giants approached from afar, white frost spreading across the ground.
The leading blue giants were hit by cannon fire, staggering back two steps. As the smoke cleared, their shattered bodies began to repair themselves, and they reached out into the void, wielding massive frost axes that formed in their hands.
Whoosh—!
They hurled their giant axes with force, slicing through the air and directly shredding several vehicles loaded with artillery, which exploded with a loud bang.
In the sky, an armed helicopter sped by.
“It’s the Frost Giants. It seems Loki has entered Cangnan City.” An officer on the helicopter slowly lowered his binoculars and spoke into the headset to others on the channel.
“How many are there?”
The officer squinted, roughly counting, his brow furrowing tightly. “There are over two hundred just from what has emerged so far, and they keep coming.”
Others on the channel gasped.
“This number… is Loki trying to destroy the entire city?”
“With our current firepower, we can’t possibly stop them. If they get into the city, it will be a catastrophic disaster!”
“What about Team Phoenix? Didn’t the higher-ups issue orders for them to support Cangnan?!”
“That’s the problem.” The person on the channel took a deep breath. “Three hours ago, the plane carrying Team Phoenix… went missing.”
“Missing?” The officer’s face changed instantly. “That’s a special team! How could they just disappear without a trace?! Even if a god intervened, there would be signs!”
“So we’re investigating internal personnel. It’s likely someone spread false information to deliberately lead Team Phoenix away from the Cangnan battlefield.”
“I don’t care how you investigate! I’m only interested in knowing what we can use to stop this group of Frost Giants without the special team!”
On the ground, the massive Frost Giants were rapidly approaching the city, surrounded by swirling white snow, as if a storm capable of engulfing all of Cangnan was brewing!
Under such terrifying power, conventional weapons were utterly ineffective; bullets and artillery barely reached the Frost Giants before being frozen by the snow, with ninety percent rendered useless.
Just as the military’s defenses were about to be breached, a phantom carriage sped in from the distance.
The rumbling of the Frost Giants’ footsteps abruptly ceased, and pleasant birdsong began to echo in the air. On the asphalt road, soil surged from the ground, and a touch of green began to spread, lush grass instantly covering the entire battlefield.
Wherever the carriage passed, the scent of flowers filled the air. In an instant, it felt as if the place had transformed into an entirely different world…
“The Master has arrived.” The officer in the helicopter, witnessing this scene, showed a glimmer of joy in his eyes.
The Frost Giants sensed the change in their surroundings but did not pause in their actions. Their violent forms surged forward, charging at the carriage with incredible speed!
The roar of the giants echoed in the sky!
The driver, a young attendant, glanced disdainfully at them, controlling the carriage to come to a slow stop. The next moment, a booming voice came from the carriage behind him.
“Beasts of the other races, little Daoer.”
Whoosh—!!
A teacup shot out from the carriage, floating gracefully into the oncoming storm. The tea splashed lightly, transforming into an almost invisible blade of water vapor, three hundred meters long, slicing horizontally!
In an instant, all the Frost Giants within a thousand meters of the cup froze momentarily, a line of blood appearing around their necks as their heads separated from their bodies, their massive forms losing balance and crashing heavily to the ground.
From above, it could be seen that nearly half of the Frost Giants had been decapitated, and the blood splattered, staining the lush grass red.
The officer in the helicopter, witnessing this scene, was utterly shocked, unable to contain a soft sigh:
“With just one cup from the Master, hundreds of soldiers are broken, blood staining the land… Is this the pinnacle of human power?”
