Chapter 230: The Spider Knight
Under the night sky, a figure in a dark red cloak raced between high-rises. He pulled out his phone and dialed a number.
“Are you still at the pub?”
“Yes, what’s wrong?” An Qingyu answered.
“You’re close to the airport. Head there first and find the 3:20 AM flight. The pub owner is on it.”
An Qingyu raised an eyebrow, checking the time. “Five minutes left. I should make it. What about you?”
“I have my ways.”
“Alright.”
An Qingyu hung up, rushed out of the pub, and defying gravity, ran straight up the vertical wall to the roof, then sprinted toward the airport at incredible speed.
After analyzing the lizard Mystery’s corpse, he gained not just rapid regeneration, but also extraordinary speed and mobility!
This was how he’d managed to deliver the New Year’s message to Lin Qiye without even Hong Ying catching him.
…
Five minutes left… at this rate, they wouldn’t make it. Lin Qiye calculated the distance, frowning.
Not just him – Hong Ying’s group wouldn’t make it either. Despite her crazy driving, the distance was simply too great to cover in five minutes, no matter how fast they drove.
Their only hope lay in the airport successfully stopping the plane…
But would the pub owner really just wait passively?
Lin Qiye took a deep breath, pressed his right hand into the void, and a brilliant magic circle opened in his palm against the black sky. Moments later, a small boy in green orderly uniform stepped out.
His badge bore a number.
—002.
Zhu looked around confused, not understanding what was happening, when Lin Qiye suddenly grabbed him and shouted:
“Transform!”
Zhu: …???
“War… Warden, what are you saying?” Zhu tilted his head in confusion.
“Return to your true form. I need to ride you,” Lin Qiye said seriously.
Zhu’s jaw dropped, his young mind seemingly traumatized. With a tearful voice, he replied:
“But… I’m just a child… Warden, if you really want to ride something, ride Li Yifei! He’s sturdy! He can take it!”
Lin Qiye glanced at him. “What nonsense are you talking about? Li Yifei’s nowhere near your speed. Except for Hong Yan, you’re the fastest orderly. You’re our only hope now.”
Among the current orderlies, Li Yifei was just a simple fellow. Though not slow in his true form, he wasn’t particularly fast either, especially after recently gaining weight. Magic Cube could distort space, but couldn’t maintain it long enough.
If he could summon Hong Yan, they could reach the airport in thirty seconds using the Flame Vein Dragon’s earth-moving ability, but unfortunately, she was sea-level, beyond Lin Qiye’s current summoning capability.
After considering everything, only Zhu was suitable.
Zhu paused, blinked, and tentatively asked: “Warden… is that what you meant?”
“What else?!”
“Oh, oh, okay!”
Zhu sighed in relief, his small body rapidly expanding into a giant white spider. Lin Qiye mounted its back, and the Soul Weaver Spider’s legs shot forward, its form blurring with speed.
Carrying Lin Qiye, it leaped from the rooftop, instantly shooting spider silk that stuck to another distant building, swinging them hundreds of meters forward.
Lin Qiye finally experienced what being Spider-Man felt like.
Compared to his own leaping, this was much faster, though riding a spider through the air felt strange to Lin Qiye.
Others rode dragons, horses, tigers… and here he was, a spider knight?
And an underage spider at that.
But in this emergency, there was no time to dwell on such thoughts.
With Zhu’s speed, they reached the airport area within minutes. Just then, Lin Qiye’s phone rang again.
“How are you doing?” Lin Qiye shouted to An Qingyu.
“We hit a snag. I found the plane, but it took off before ground control could issue the no-fly order.” An Qingyu’s voice was unclear, filled with rushing wind.
Lin Qiye froze. “Then you’re…”
“I couldn’t get on the plane, only managed to attach myself to its underside.”
In the night sky, An Qingyu, clinging Spider-Man-style to the plane’s bottom, watched the shrinking airport below. His black coat flapped violently in the wind as he looked on helplessly.
“Now, the plane’s airborne…”
ROAR!!
Just then, a newly launched plane crossed above Lin Qiye’s head, flying so low he could clearly see a black figure clinging to its underside.
The deafening engine roared past!
“That’s it!”
Without hesitation, Lin Qiye hung up and pointed at the ascending plane, asking the Soul Weaver Spider beneath him: “Can we get up there?”
“Should be possible.”
The spider shot silk from its tail toward the sky, which after floating briefly, stuck to the plane’s rear wing.
The next moment, man and spider were pulled skyward!
The silk kept shortening, bringing them closer to the plane and further from the ground…
Gripping the spider tightly, Lin Qiye looked down. Familiar buildings rapidly shrank, lamp-lit streets became golden ribbons winding through the dark city.
As they climbed higher, he could even see his home, and from this height, the Peace Bridge Office…
They weren’t far from Wu Xiangnan’s marked ritual area.
After reaching a certain altitude, the plane leveled off instead of climbing higher, showing no intention of entering the cloud layer.
This didn’t surprise Lin Qiye. Since the pub owner’s goal was performing the ritual in the air, they couldn’t fly too high or it would be difficult to judge if they were within the designated area.
So the passenger plane began flying low over Cangnan city.
Through the spider’s tireless efforts, they finally landed on the plane’s tail section. Howling winds whipped Lin Qiye’s cloak as the spider looked down, its whole body trembling, legs shaking.
“H-h-h-help… meeeeeee!!!!”
Lin Qiye sighed helplessly, about to offer comfort when the spider beneath him suddenly went limp…
It had fainted from fear.
That massive body instantly lost its grip, dragged by fierce winds and gravity, sliding rapidly downward and sideways – with Lin Qiye still on its back!
