Chapter 218: The Scene
Lin Qiye sat in the chair opposite Merlin. The Rubik’s cube on the table flickered slightly and moved towards Lin Qiye, like a wronged child.
Lin Qiye ignored its movement and got straight to the point:
“Lord Merlin, I came here because I have some questions to ask you… Have you heard of the Sword of Kusanagi?”
Merlin frowned in thought for a moment, then shook his head, “I’m sorry, I haven’t heard of it.”
Lin Qiye sighed inwardly, though this wasn’t unexpected – as an ancient British deity, Merlin naturally wouldn’t know about Japanese mythology.
“It’s a weapon that exists in mythology… In short, anyone struck by it cannot heal from any physical wounds, and their soul would be damaged. Even if they were resurrected, they wouldn’t fully recover.” Lin Qiye briefly explained based on Instructor Hong’s description.
“I want to know if there are any good ways to treat wounds left by such divine weapons?”
“Wounds that leave eternal soul damage…” Merlin pondered thoughtfully, “Though I don’t know this specific weapon, from your description, it should possess both eternal and soul-binding properties. Any weapon involving eternity is very tricky to deal with.”
Lin Qiye’s brows furrowed tightly, “Is there really no way to heal it?”
“There are ways.” Merlin mused for a moment, holding up two fingers, “By my estimation, there are probably two methods to heal such wounds…”
“The first method is the most straightforward – if you destroy the Kusanagi sword itself, its attached properties would naturally disappear, and the wounds could heal.”
Lin Qiye’s mouth twitched, “You call that straightforward?”
Personally going to Takamagahara, killing Susanoo, then destroying the Kusanagi sword… To accomplish this, one would have to be among the top-tier deities.
For his current self, it was nothing but a pipe dream.
“What’s the second method?”
“The second is to find another divine weapon with eternal properties that can heal wounds,” Merlin said calmly.
“Hmm… like what?”
“I don’t know.”
Lin Qiye: …
Well, these two solutions were each more unrealistic than the other.
“There’s no other way?” Lin Qiye couldn’t help asking.
“I can’t think of any.” Merlin shook his head, “If I had to suggest a third method, it would be to pray for a miracle.”
Lin Qiye sighed and stood up from his seat.
“I understand. Sorry to bother you.”
Lin Qiye walked out of the study, watched the chaos of the caregivers in the courtyard for a moment, then shook his head helplessly.
It seems helping Wu Xiangnan heal his hand wound would be very difficult.
…
The next day.
A black van stopped in front of the bar. Wen Qimo and Lin Qiye got out and walked towards the bar that had been cordoned off by police.
The bar wasn’t large but was tastefully decorated, combining vintage style with neon ambiance, creating a unique atmosphere. It could be considered a popular spot on this street.
However, what was once a lively sophisticated bar now stood empty and desolate.
Lin Qiye and his companion crossed the yellow police tape and walked straight into the bar.
“Isn’t there anyone guarding this crime scene?” Lin Qiye looked around, not seeing a single police officer, and asked curiously.
“Since this case involves the mysterious, regular police officers cannot be involved. Scene security, evidence collection, autopsy… these are all handled by our special processing department. Though it looks unguarded, there are actually people monitoring 24/7 from hidden positions outside. If any suspicious person approaches, they can be caught immediately.”
Lin Qiye nodded. Just then, a young man wearing a black jacket walked in from outside.
“Brother Wen, looking for clues again today?” The young man noticed Lin Qiye beside Wen Qimo and asked curiously, “This is…?”
“New member, Lin Qiye. Seven, this is from the professional processing department I told you about, Little Black. Get to know each other, you’ll be working together often in future operations,” Wen Qimo said with a smile.
Unlike the previous temporary team members, Lin Qiye was now an official Night Watchman with proper credentials, about to formally take on Night Watchman duties and truly integrate into the organization.
“Hello, Brother Lin.” Little Black smiled and extended his hand.
“Hello.” Lin Qiye shook his hand.
“Little Black, give Seven a brief overview of the situation,” Wen Qimo said.
“Alright.” Little Black’s expression turned serious, “It happened yesterday, August 26th in the morning. When the bar owner came to open up, he noticed a strong smell of blood. Going to the back courtyard, he found the bar’s waiter Sun Xiao dead there.”
As he spoke, he led them towards the back courtyard.
“Opening after 10 AM?” Lin Qiye seemed somewhat surprised.
“These kinds of bars do evening business, opening after 10 is considered early,” Wen Qimo explained.
Lin Qiye nodded, and soon the three arrived at the courtyard entrance.
On the ground of the courtyard were numbered placards, each corresponding to a scene photo. On the wall was a human outline drawn in white chalk, suspended in a cruciform position.
“The deceased Sun Xiao, male, 28 years old, came to work as a waiter at this bar two years ago. Before that he worked at a restaurant. Actually, few people can stick with being a bar waiter for so long. He managed two years, firstly because the bar owner treated him well with good benefits, and secondly because he had two elderly parents to support and needed money urgently.”
Little Black looked down at his documents and continued, “According to the autopsy report, time of death was between 3-4 AM that day. The victim had marks from five nails driven into his body – four in his limbs with through-and-through wounds, corresponding to these four red dots on the wall.”
Lin Qiye squinted at the wall – sure enough, at the hands and feet of the white outline were four deep gouges with blood stains remaining. These four nails had pinned the victim to the wall.
“And the fatal wound was the nail that pierced his heart – death was instantaneous.”
Little Black pointed at the wall – at the heart position of the human outline was a red dot marking where the nail had pierced the heart.
“Additionally, all ten of the victim’s fingers were cut off, with very smooth cuts. No knife capable of causing such wounds was found in the bar.”
