Chapter 1758 It’s Over…
Great Summer.
Several helicopters buzzed through the sky above the East China Sea.
“So that’s Shenlong Gate… how magnificent.” A new recruit peered through the porthole at the silver city on the sea’s surface, his mouth agape in shock.
“Impressive, isn’t it?” Beside him, a Nightwatcher in his thirties grinned, “If you get the chance, you should see Chennan Gate. It’s even more spectacular. Beyond the fortress, the surrounding ground is shattered into ravines from divine battles, with countless gods’ blood spilled on those walls… what a scene that was, tsk tsk.”
“You participated in that decisive battle back then?” another new recruit asked in surprise.
“Yes, and not just me. Basically every senior Nightwatcher you see today took part… each one of them survived from the brink of death.” He paused, then continued, “You youngsters can’t possibly imagine how brutal it was.”
The new recruits on the helicopter nodded, unable to resist falling into reverie.
“However, these fortresses are mostly unmanned now. Even if there are people, they’re just used as monitoring outposts.”
“Why?”
“Because we won back then!” the middle-aged Nightwatcher proudly declared. “The once-glorious divine nations are now shattered. Even if some foreign gods secretly band together, they can’t pose much of a threat.
Today our Great Summer has Commander Lin, plus four peak-level supreme gods, and eight humans who rival the gods in power. Unless those foreign gods are seeking death, who would dare provoke us?
The era of humans passively taking beatings is over. Now, it’s our turn to hunt the gods!”
Hearing these bold words, the new recruits’ blood boiled with excitement, but then one of them quietly asked:
“But I heard there are still Cthulhu Mythos deities hiding on Earth?”
The middle-aged Nightwatcher’s expression froze, and he replied helplessly, “Matters of that level aren’t for ordinary Nightwatchers like us to worry about… even if the sky falls, there will be someone to hold it up for us.”
The helicopter skimmed over the sea and soon reached the misty border.
“They should be arriving soon…”
“Who’s arriving?” a recruit asked in confusion. “Aren’t we here to visit the Shenlong Gate ruins?”
“Visit my ass.” The middle-aged Nightwatcher almost laughed from frustration. “We received urgent orders to meet the [Demon] Squad and take custody of a god’s corpse. Why else would we bring so many helicopters? We brought you rookies along to broaden your horizons.”
“The [Demon] Squad?!” Everyone became excited upon hearing these words.
“Is it really them?”
“Who’s the [Demon] Squad?” Some recruits still looked confused.
“You don’t know? Great Summer’s special squad number 005, codename [Demon]. Established four years ago with countless military achievements, they’re the most prominent young team among the Nightwatchers! I heard they’re Commander Lin’s students.”
“If I could join the [Demon] Squad after graduation, I’d be smiling in my dreams.”
“Dream on. Compared to [Demon], joining [Phoenix] is more realistic, since they have personnel rotations more often.”
Listening to the recruits chattering about the [Demon] Squad, the middle-aged Nightwatcher smiled and couldn’t help but sigh, “Time flies… Is it already the era of [Demon] now?”
“Captain, which special squad was the most powerful in your day?”
The middle-aged Nightwatcher smiled mysteriously and slowly uttered two words: “[Nightfall].”
“[Nightfall]?”
The recruits looked at each other with blank expressions.
“Seems like I’ve heard of them somewhere… Were they even more powerful than [Demon]?”
“Far more than just more powerful than [Demon].” The middle-aged Nightwatcher chuckled. “Back then, [Nightfall] was a hundred times more prominent than today’s [Demon].”
The recruits were stunned, seeming somewhat skeptical:
“Were they really that amazing?”
“Did they have more achievements than [Demon]?”
“Achievements?” The middle-aged Nightwatcher clicked his tongue. “Do you know who the captain of [Nightfall] was back then?”
“Who?”
“Today’s Commander Lin.”
The recruits couldn’t help but gape…
“If the [Nightfall] Squad was so powerful, where are they now?”
Hearing this question, the middle-aged Nightwatcher fell silent.
After a long while, he smiled bitterly and sighed deeply, “Gone… all gone… Those people will never reunite again.”
The recruits seemed to want to ask more, when a voice echoed simultaneously in their communicators.
“They’re back.”
Everyone turned to look. From within the wall of mist, seven figures in deep purple flew out. Each held one corner of a giant net, and a deity’s corpse as massive as a mountain was caught within it.
“Deep purple cloaks… it’s the [Demon] Squad!” The recruits’ eyes immediately lit up.
Several helicopters quickly approached, securing the corners of the giant net to their hooks, taking over the divine corpse from the [Demon] Squad.
“Finally here… I’m exhausted,” Su Zhe wiped sweat from his forehead, looking completely drained.
“The wings were controlled by Lu Baoyou, and he provided all the strength. What are you tired from?” Li Zhenzhen couldn’t help but roll her eyes.
“Mental exhaustion, mental exhaustion,” Su Zhe laughed dryly.
“They’ll handle the god’s corpse. We need to hurry back to the capital to report…” Fang Mo glanced at the sky, “Otherwise, those Knights will beat us to it again.”
Everyone’s expressions changed. Without another word, Lu Baoyou pushed the wings on everyone’s backs to their limits, transforming them into seven streaks of light sweeping across the horizon!
Ten minutes later.
Beijing City, Nightwatcher Headquarters.
Knock knock knock—!!
Urgent, heavy knocking sounded at the door.
“…Come in.”
Fang Mo was about to hurriedly push the door open when his footsteps suddenly halted.
He wiped the sweat from his temple, quickly tidied his hair that had been disheveled by the fierce wind, cleared his throat, and then unhurriedly pushed open the door.
“Any harder and you would have broken my door,” a voice drifted from behind the desk.
Fang Mo’s lips twitched slightly, his expression somewhat embarrassed.
From behind the desk piled with documents, a figure slowly stood up. It was a man in his mid-twenties. Though young in appearance, there was nothing immature about him; rather, he possessed a deep, ocean-like quality.
“Commander, I was just eager to report back to you…” Fang Mo smiled, glancing around. “Has the [Knight] Squad returned?”
“Ten minutes before you, but they’re still vomiting at the dock due to seasickness. They should be here soon.” Lin Qiye put down the document in his hand and pointed to the chair in front of him. “Have a seat.”
