Chapter 1756 God Hunting Plan
Four years later.
Fog.
“Last night, we had one casualty.”
The candlelight flickered in the dim cabin, casting six shadows like ghosts on the walls. Around the narrow metal table, faces illuminated crimson by the flame stared at one another.
Creak, creak—
The exploration ship swayed slightly. A figure gripping the helm looked back and couldn’t help but roll their eyes.
Su Zhe sat at the table, nervously swallowing.
“Who?”
“Number four,” Fang Mo solemnly replied.
The others immediately sighed in relief, except for Su Zhe who couldn’t help but stand up and curse:
“Damn it, which werewolf is so heartless?! Targeting me three times in a row!! Can I get some gameplay experience?!”
Su Yuan silently turned to look out the window, as if admiring the scenery.
“You, Su Yuan! Targeting your brother again, huh?!” Su Zhe rolled up his sleeves, wanting to teach his disobedient sister a lesson, but couldn’t bring himself to do it. He paced fiercely around the cabin twice before sitting back down. “Just you wait!”
“Oh? What are you going to do?”
“I… if I don’t die next round, I’m voting for you first!”
As everyone laughed, Fang Mo slowly stood up and walked to Lu Baoyou, who was steering the ship. The candlelight cast their deep purple cloaks like an abyss.
“Aren’t you going to join us?”
“Boring game,” Lu Baoyou replied flatly.
“Tsk, you’re the deputy captain now, why are you still so antisocial?”
Hearing the words “deputy captain,” black lines immediately appeared on Lu Baoyou’s temple. He glared at Fang Mo, “Don’t mention that in front of me! If I hadn’t depleted my mental energy four years ago, how would you have become captain?!”
“Who was it that disobeyed orders and rushed to fight the ‘Mystery’ alone? You didn’t kill it, exhausted your mental energy, and if I hadn’t arrived in time to finish it off, you would have been dead or at least half-crippled.
Whoever killed that ‘Mystery’ first would be captain—we made that bet with Commander Lin as witness.” Fang Mo spoke righteously.
“Besides, I compromised… I became captain, but used your suggested name for the team, so we’re even.”
Lu Baoyou’s mouth twitched slightly. After a moment, he just snorted coldly and went back to steering the ship.
Fang Mo blinked and continued asking:
“Have you found any trace of 073?”
“No,” Lu Baoyou answered expressionlessly. “It’s the middle of the night, the moon is gone—where am I supposed to find traces of 073?”
“…Fair point.”
Fang Mo looked up at the sky. Except for a few bright stars occasionally shining through the fog, the once-brilliant moonlight had disappeared.
Visibility on the sea at night had dropped to its lowest. With barely any waves, the ship was very stable. They seemed to be gliding through a dead black hole—nothing but darkness all around.
In such extremely quiet and dark environments, inner fears would be amplified to the extreme. If they didn’t find ways to relax their minds, problems would eventually arise.
“Come to think of it, since the moon left, apart from weaker tides, there hasn’t been much impact,” Li Zhenzhen walked to the window, looked outside, and said puzzledly.
“There are impacts, just too subtle for us to notice,” Fang Mo looked up at the dim sky. “Earth’s rotation is accelerating, the axis is shifting… these things are happening, but for Earth, four years is too short a time—too short for these effects to be humanly perceptible… Perhaps after tens of thousands of years, these impacts will truly change Earth’s ecology.”
Four years ago, when people discovered the moon had disappeared, there was indeed a period of panic, but officials gave a scientific explanation to cover it up. After a while, people found that life without the moon didn’t change much, and interest gradually faded.
“We’ve been tracking 073 for over half a month now, and still have nothing to show for it… how are we going to report back to Commander Lin?”
“If we can’t find 073, we won’t go back!” Determination filled Fang Mo’s eyes.
“Instructor Shen Qingzhu already wounded him severely. If we let him escape, our [Devil] squad will lose all face… We’re a team personally trained by Commander Lin—we can’t be outdone by those foreign Knights!”
“Exactly!” This statement immediately gained the approval of all team members. “We can’t let the [Knights] get ahead of us!”
Fang Mo lowered his head and paced around the cabin, as if pondering something.
“Zhenzhen, read the file on Number 073 again.”
Li Zhenzhen nodded, picked up a document from the table, and read aloud:
“Divine Sequence 073, Great Xia Nightwatcher’s ‘God-Hunting’ Plan Target Eight, former Olympian main deity, Aratos.”
“Four years ago during the Olympus upheaval, six major gods besieged Zeus. Zeus killed two in retaliation, but the remaining four exhausted Zeus to death. They then fought for the position of God King, with Poseidon ultimately claiming the Golden Throne and subjugating two other gods. Only Aratos refused to submit to Poseidon and was expelled from Olympus.”
“That same year, Commander Lin launched the ‘God-Hunting’ Plan, mobilizing many human powerhouses to venture out and systematically hunt gods wandering in the mist. Since the [Knight] squad first discovered Aratos’s whereabouts a year ago, he has been listed as the eighth target of the ‘God-Hunting’ Plan, coded as 073.”
“A month ago, Silent Angel Shen Qingzhu pursued 073 to nearby waters, severely wounding him, but he escaped using a self-mutilation secret technique.”
After finishing reading the file, Li Zhenzhen sighed deeply, “I heard that a few days ago, the ninth target of the ‘God-Hunting’ Plan was already eliminated by Wu Tongxuan, with the body hung on the divine rack, yet we still haven’t resolved our eighth target…”
“Regardless, we can’t lose our composure. No matter how far 073 runs, he can’t escape this sea area. What we need is patience,” Fang Mo spoke slowly. “Although Aratos is severely injured, he is still a deity—we can’t underestimate him.”
Everyone nodded in agreement.
Su Zhe sat back at the small table, about to suggest another round of the game, when Fang Mo’s expression suddenly changed. He whirled around to look out the porthole.
His nose twitched slightly in the air, and his eyes flashed with brilliance!
“I smell blood… he’s nearby!”
With a wave of his hand, the candles in the exploration ship instantly extinguished. Everyone in the cabin tensed, their gazes sweeping the surroundings… Nothing but darkness met their eyes.
Just then, the exploration ship beneath their feet suddenly shuddered. Waves churned as a massive divine figure struggled to rise from the sea!
