Chapter 1718 Mental Asylum in Deep Space
[[Distance until the Eastern Emperor’s Bell rings: 10 minutes]]
Upper Capital City, Nightwatch Headquarters.
“The Holy Covenant… what exactly is it?”
In the archives room, Zuo Qing looked at the ancient parchment in his hand, muttering to himself.
Ring ring ring—!
The crisp sound of his phone pulled Zuo Qing back to reality. He answered:
“Alright, I’m coming right away.”
He returned the document to its original place and quickly walked back to his office, where his secretary was already anxiously waiting.
“What’s so urgent? Have Qiye and the others returned?”
“No… Director Lin and his team should still be at sea. It’s another matter!”
The secretary handed the tablet to Zuo Qing and solemnly said: “Just one minute ago, our lunar monitoring satellite transmitted some strange images…”
“Lunar monitoring satellite?”
Zuo Qing’s eyes narrowed slightly.
Years ago, when humans first observed the Seraph Michael on the moon, they began manufacturing lunar satellites to monitor the angel’s movements. But the first lunar satellite was directly sliced down by Michael’s sword. Humans launched several more attempts, each time testing greater observation distances, until the fourth satellite was launched and Michael finally didn’t intervene, seemingly allowing humans to observe from afar.
But this satellite was positioned so far from the moon that even with the most advanced telescope of that era, it could barely make out the figure on the crater as a white dot, revealing no other useful information, let alone providing surveillance.
Later, after realizing Michael had no malicious intent toward humanity, people gradually abandoned moon monitoring, and this early lunar observation satellite became a forgotten relic.
After all these years, what valuable images could this satellite possibly capture?
Zuo Qing puzzledly took the tablet. The image wasn’t of the moon itself, but of space near the moon. In the pitch-black void, a white dot was slowly approaching the lunar surface.
“What is this? Space debris?”
“Sir… please zoom in.”
Zuo Qing enlarged the image. Under the blurry lens, the outline of the white dot gradually took shape…
“Huh?” Zuo Qing froze. “What is this… a model? Or some kind of Lego toy?”
In the image, the silhouette of a hospital came into view—walls, courtyard, wards, even the chessboard and wooden chairs in the center of the yard were visible. On the sign above the hospital’s main gate, several characters could be faintly recognized:
—Divine Mental Hospital.
“Commander Zuo, this image has been reduced hundreds of times,” the secretary slowly explained. “This isn’t a model… judging by its size, it’s a full-scale, one-to-one replica of an actual mental hospital.”
“You’re saying there’s a floating mental hospital in space?” Zuo Qing looked at him in astonishment. “Am I going crazy, or is the world?”
“Lunar observers clearly captured its trajectory. It’s steadily approaching the moon… This matter is too strange, so as soon as I received this information, I came to you immediately.” The secretary’s expression was extremely grave. “Commander Zuo, on the moon there’s…”
Zuo Qing rose from his chair, his brows tightly furrowed. “What exactly is that hospital… If it’s some form of attack, it seems too much like a joke. Moreover, with Michael stationed on the moon, this matter…”
After pondering for a moment, Zuo Qing said,
“The moon is of critical importance. We must proceed with caution… Go notify the Celestial Court and ask if they’ve noticed that object.”
“Yes, sir.”
“At its current speed, how long until it reaches the moon?”
“When these images were taken, it was less than 10,000 kilometers from the moon. At this rate, it has likely already landed on the lunar surface.”
“That fast?”
Zuo Qing’s frown deepened as he paced around the room for a long while. “By the time the Celestial Court receives the notification and heads to the moon, it will take at least ten minutes… I’ll depart immediately and cross space to the moon to investigate. Contact Zhou Ping, Lu Wuwei, Master Chen, and other top-tier individuals capable of space traversal, and have them set out immediately as well.”
Hearing this, the secretary hesitated. “Commander Zuo, our satellite only captured images of an uninhabited hospital… not a large-scale enemy attack. Is it necessary to be so alarmed? Besides, Michael is still on the moon.”
“Unusual events always hide dangers. When it concerns the lunar seal, it’s better to be cautious.”
Zuo Qing put on the dark red cloak from the coat rack and hung his straight sword at his waist, quickly heading outside.
Halfway there, he suddenly stopped.
“By the way, check what’s in the second drawer on the right side of my desk… If something happens, you know what to do.”
The secretary was momentarily stunned, then seemed to realize something and replied seriously:
“Yes, sir.”
Zuo Qing didn’t go downstairs to exit through the Nightwatch building’s main entrance. Instead, he opened a window and leaped out. Cyan light surged wildly from his body, like a blue flame bird, streaking rapidly toward the sky!
…
[[Distance until the Eastern Emperor’s Bell rings: 7 minutes]]
The Moon.
In the gray-white crater, a six-winged golden figure holding a giant sword stood majestically under the dead silence of deep space.
His tightly closed eyes trembled slightly, as if sensing something, and suddenly opened. On the desolate lunar surface, a massive shadow was rapidly expanding!
His brows furrowed, and golden divine power instantly surged outward like a tidal wave. At that moment, a beam of light suddenly burst from the shadow, enveloping his form!
Michael’s pupils contracted sharply!
Even he had failed to detect any trace of the shadow’s presence. If it hadn’t blocked the sunlight causing changes in the lunar surface illumination, he wouldn’t have known it was already above him!
What in the world is this thing?!
Michael had no time to think further as the light abruptly changed the surrounding scene.
When he regained his senses, the vast, desolate lunar surface had vanished. In its place was a bare, white room.
Sunlight from the distant void poured through the window, illuminating one corner of the room. Through the window, what appeared to be a corridor could be seen, and below that, an empty green courtyard…
What is this place?
The moment this thought arose in Michael’s mind, the door to the room slowly opened…
With a grating creak, a white figure stood in the hallway outside the room.
It was a Black man wearing a white coat.
He stood with his hands in his pockets, wearing scholarly black-framed glasses that almost blended with his skin tone. Looking at Michael in the room, he smiled, revealing a set of snow-white teeth.
“Hello there, Patient Number One… Michael.”
