Chapter 1618 Why?
An Qingyu calmly walked past the bodies of the two knights, heading deeper into the church.
“Is it here…”
An Qingyu’s gaze locked onto a doorway. He placed both hands on the door, but instead of pushing it open, he lightly grasped it, instantly transforming the two several-ton doors into countless paper fragments that scattered throughout the church.
He walked through the fluttering paper fragments and entered the room, where the reflection of a sleeping red-haired girl appeared in his gray eyes.
Is this Yeland’s proxy?
An Qingyu raised an eyebrow. He had expected to engage in a great battle against Chloe, but surprisingly, she had fallen into a deep slumber without any defenses.
He stepped on the red carpet beneath his feet, walking step by step toward the sleeping girl on the stone platform. A sharp black scalpel slid from his robe into his palm.
An Qingyu stood at the edge of the stone platform, about to raise his hand when a violent whirlwind suddenly howled outward from around the girl!
This whirlwind was completely different from the wind he faced when confronting the knights. The moment it blew, a cold flash instantly cut off half of An Qingyu’s body. Even his eyes, capable of analyzing all things, couldn’t capture its speed. He only felt a blur before his eyes as a tremendous force shook his body, smashing him directly into the thick wall!
An Qingyu’s pupils suddenly contracted. He forcibly freed himself from the cracks, but the next moment another wind blade sliced through the wall, tearing apart a corner of his black robe. Had his reaction been any slower, his head would likely have been split in two.
An Qingyu landed on the ground, his bloody half-body rapidly regenerating. He frowned as he looked at the girl in the eye of the storm, his expression somewhat gloomy.
Was she pretending?
No… she hadn’t awakened. Was the wind actively protecting her?
As An Qingyu pondered, a ball of scorching purple flame suddenly condensed out of nothingness in front of the girl. The high temperature distorted the surrounding space, like a miniature sun, its radiant light making the entire church dazzlingly bright.
An Qingyu’s eyes instinctively narrowed, and then a sense of crisis enveloped his heart. Without thinking, he darted sideways.
Almost simultaneously, a purple fireball erupted from the ground, transforming into a pillar of fire that engulfed An Qingyu’s original position, piercing through the church’s dome and shooting straight into the sky!
Before An Qingyu’s feet could touch the ground, a second pillar of fire precisely predicted his landing spot and burst forth from the ground again!
In that instant, the air beneath An Qingyu’s feet suddenly deconstructed and reassembled into a solid steel plate, allowing him to dodge the second purple fire pillar.
An Qingyu looked up at the sky. Above the broken dome, the two purple fire pillars transformed into two Western dragons that blotted out the sky, roaring at the ant-like figure below them as purple waves of fire swept across the night sky.
“Even without awakening, she possesses such terrifying combat power?” An Qingyu’s eyes reflected the images of the purple fire dragons, his expression unusually solemn.
“It seems I need to use my real abilities.”
Roar——!!
The two purple fire dragons howled as they pounced toward An Qingyu, the churning flames seeming ready to raze all of London to the ground.
An Qingyu stared at the two fire dragons, flickers of light continuously flashing in his gray eyes. Wearing his black robe, he stood amid the ruins, slowly spreading his arms as if to embrace the world-destroying flames!
The fire dragons crashed down like falling meteors, instantly engulfing An Qingyu’s figure. But as the flames swept past his hands, the surging fire transformed into countless golden maple leaves that struck the ground, only to be caught by the fierce winds generated by the flames above and blown back into the sky!
At this moment, golden maple leaves danced like a golden blizzard over the silent ruins of London.
An Qingyu stood beneath the fluttering leaves. Apart from his robe being somewhat tattered by the fire, his body bore no wounds. He gazed at the sleeping girl on the stone platform and once again stepped forward.
Behind him, the reflection of a gate shrouded in mist gradually took shape in the void!
The aura of the Gate of Truth spread in all directions. An Qingyu stopped several meters from the stone platform. He bit his fingertip and moved his blood-stained finger toward his eye…
Since he couldn’t approach Chloe, he would directly use the Gate of Truth to devour her!
“An Qingyu.”
A voice came from above the dome. An Qingyu’s finger, about to touch his eye, suddenly paused.
He slowly looked up and saw a figure wearing a deep red cloak standing at the edge of the broken church dome, looking down at him amid the falling leaves, with an extremely complex expression.
Seeing that familiar face, An Qingyu lowered his hands. After a long while, he finally spoke in a deep voice:
“It seems I still couldn’t avoid you…”
Lin Qiye lightly jumped from the edge of the dome, landing in front of Chloe’s stone platform, standing on the carpet that had been burned black by the flames, facing An Qingyu.
“Why are you avoiding me? Don’t you even have the courage to talk to me face to face anymore?”
“No.” An Qingyu shook his head, “Your existence is too special. Even without the [Mortal Divine Realm], you can create miracles again and again… I’m confident I can beat Zhuai-ge, but even though you haven’t become a god yet, I’m not confident I can beat you.”
Lin Qiye looked at An Qingyu’s familiar yet strange face, remained silent for a long time, and still asked the question he had been suppressing in his heart:
“Why?”
“What?”
“Why did you betray us?”
Lin Qiye stared intently into An Qingyu’s eyes, hoping to see even the slightest hesitation in those calm gray pupils.
But the answer he received was destined to be disappointing.
An Qingyu’s expression showed no fluctuation whatsoever. His face was cold and stern as he calmly said, “I said it when we were in the Celestial Court – humans have no chance of winning. Since that’s the case, why would I stay on the side that’s destined to fail?”
“You’re lying,” Lin Qiye firmly interrupted before he could finish. “You are An Qingyu, the one who would rather willingly enter the Zhuxian Sword Formation and have both body and soul destroyed to eliminate any possibility of [Door Key] resurrection, the one who would rather self-destruct to escape from Mi Ge’s hands… How could someone like you choose to join Cthulhu out of fear of failure?”
Lin Qiye had known An Qingyu the longest and understood him the best. He didn’t believe An Qingyu would betray Da Xia for such a reason.
An Qingyu frowned and remained silent for a moment before continuing:
“The reason I made those choices in the past was because I hadn’t seen the world beyond the Gate of Truth… But now, I have witnessed ‘truth’ with my own eyes. Some things cannot be resolved by simple death.”
