Chapter 1575 Ceremonial Bow
“Can you change physiological structure just with a gaze?” Jiang Er asked in surprise. “Is it that powerful?”
“Yes, this is the power of the Gate of Truth… Besides this, I can do much more.”
An Qingyu bent down to pick up a pebble from the shallow water, gently swaying it in his hand. In the blink of an eye, it transformed into soil, from which a tender sprout emerged. Within seconds, it grew into a blooming white rose.
Watching this bizarre scene, Jiang Er’s mouth opened slightly.
An Qingyu picked up the white rose, instinctively wanting to place it in Jiang Er’s hair, but his fingertips only passed through emptiness.
His hand paused in mid-air, his eyes filling with bitterness,
“Even if I can turn stone into gold, what does it matter… I still can’t save you.”
Seeing this, Jiang Er pressed her lips together. She gently stroked An Qingyu’s head and said softly: “Didn’t we agree to spend these final moments happily? You’re breaking your promise…”
An Qingyu took a deep breath, forcefully wiping away the tears from the corners of his eyes, squeezing out a smile,
“It’s fine, let’s continue… There’s still a long way to go. Keep telling me about what you used to play here when you were little.”
An Qingyu turned and strode along the shore of Lake Er. After taking several steps, he noticed Jiang Er hadn’t followed and turned back puzzled:
“Jiang Er?”
Jiang Er floated silently in mid-air. Her semi-transparent eyes gazed at An Qingyu as she opened her mouth:
“Qingyu… our journey may only go this far.”
An Qingyu’s pupils contracted slightly.
“You…”
“My time is almost up.” Jiang Er slowly raised both hands. Her body had become as blurry as a frosted mirror. Even An Qingyu couldn’t clearly see her expression.
An Qingyu’s hand holding the white rose trembled continuously. His chest heaved violently as he forced himself to calm down, but his eyes still reddened.
“I see…” he murmured. After a moment of silence, he walked straight toward Jiang Er.
He took a deep breath and rubbed the white rose forcefully, causing the petals to curl into a ball, instantly transforming into a pure white crystal ring.
An Qingyu slowly knelt down on one knee. Looking at the gradually dissipating girl before him, he solemnly held the ring in his palm and spoke deliberately:
“I know I should have said these words long ago, but perhaps with Cangshan Mountain and Lake Er as witnesses, it’s not too late…
Jiang Er, will you marry me?”
A gentle warm breeze swept across the clouds of Cangshan Mountain and the shores of Lake Er. This breeze couldn’t stir the ghost girl’s skirt, but it stirred her heart immensely.
Jiang Er’s blurry face shifted slightly, unclear whether she was crying or smiling. Her fingertips curled gently, and the white ring floated up with difficulty, hovering ethereally on her finger.
“Yes,” she said softly. “When will the wedding be, my groom?”
“Right now.”
An Qingyu stood up from the ground. Smiling, he took Jiang Er’s hand, and they turned to face the distant, towering, ethereal Cangshan Mountain and the pure, gentle Lake Er. Two streams of tears ran down his cheeks as he said softly:
“With Cangshan Mountain as witness and Lake Er as matchmaker… Today, I, An Qingyu, take Jiang Er as my wife. Whether in life or death, our hearts will forever follow each other…
First bow, to heaven and earth…”
Under the witness of Cangshan Mountain and Lake Er, the two figures slowly bowed.
A moment later, they straightened up. An Qingyu looked at the almost completely transparent Jiang Er and spoke hoarsely: “For the parents… I’ve already bowed to them. Let’s move directly to the next step, the bow to each other as husband and wife, okay?”
“Okay.” Jiang Er’s voice reached An Qingyu’s ears, somewhat unstable, but from her tone, she seemed to be smiling.
“Have you heard that rumor?”
“What rumor?”
“When husband and wife bow to each other, whoever bows lower shows deeper love.”
An Qingyu paused, then chuckled: “Then I’ll definitely bow lower than you.”
“That’s not certain. I’m a ghost now, I have no ligaments!” Jiang Er stuck out her tongue.
An Qingyu took a deep breath and spoke deliberately: “Husband and wife… bow to each other.”
An Qingyu and Jiang Er stood facing each other. He looked at the girl before him and slowly bent down until his forehead almost touched his knees before gradually rising.
“I…” Just as An Qingyu was about to say something, he suddenly froze.
Under the blue sky, by Lake Er, the space before him was empty.
A white ring fell on the shallow shore, so quietly it made no sound… just like her departure.
An Qingyu stood motionless, sinking into silence.
Whoosh—!
A wave gently rolled over the shallow water, lifting the ring as if a hand was carrying it back to the clear waters of Lake Er… just like their love and the meaning of the white rose
—Pure love.
Tears streaming down his face, An Qingyu stared at this scene. After who knows how long, he murmured:
“I’ll take that as acceptance… Jiang Er.”
The golden sunset sank behind Cangshan Mountain, darkness enveloped the land. In the lonely silence, An Qingyu silently turned and walked away.
…
Heavenly Court.
“How long have they been gone?”
At the South Heavenly Gate, Guangcheng Zi looked at the dim sky and asked.
“An hour and a half,” replied Taiji Zhenren.
“Has anything unexpected happened there?”
“The people sent to secretly protect them report regularly. Everything seems normal.” Taiji Zhenren gazed at the distant sea of clouds, sighing deeply with a complicated expression. “It seems we really misjudged that child.”
“With the lives of hundreds of millions of Great Xia at stake, we were just fulfilling our duty.”
“Half an hour more, and they should return.” Taiji Zhenren paused. “Do we really need to use that thing?”
“He’s been enhanced by the Gate of Truth and is extremely difficult to kill. To completely erase the possibility of the ‘Key to the Gate’ reviving, to destroy both his body and soul, we can only use the Zhu Xian Sword Formation… Fortunately, the process won’t cause any pain.”
Guangcheng Zi looked back at the center of the Heavenly Court, about to say something, when Taiji Zhenren’s eyes narrowed slightly:
“They’re back.”
Outside the South Heavenly Gate, the dark sea of clouds parted as a somersault cloud carrying multiple figures slowly stopped above the gate.
Three deep red figures descended one after another. An Qingyu walked slowly toward the gods of Great Xia, his reddened eyes as calm as a deep lake.
“Deputy Captain An Qingyu of ‘Nightfall,’ here as promised to meet my death…”
