Chapter 1549 Lu Menglei’s Fear
The membrane wings of the Mi-Go vibrated with a buzzing sound. Its body shuddered, instantly shattering the rock demon that had bitten it. It turned in mid-air to look down at Lu Baoyou and the others, the tentacles on its head writhing in apparent anger.
“Run!!” Fang Mo shouted, and everyone turned to sprint wildly toward the other side of the road.
The Mi-Go’s membrane wings trembled as it pursued them like lightning.
Fang Mo transformed into a white tiger, carrying the unconscious young man who had fainted from fear, leaping nimbly between buildings. His heterochromatic eyes gazed at the others being chased along the road, his expression somewhat anxious.
Fang Mo could sense the “Klein” waves emanating from the Mi-Go, as well as that bone-chilling K-system aura. The fur all over his body stood on end. He finally understood why Lin Qiye said they couldn’t intervene – the highest-ranked members of their team, himself and Lu Baoyou, were only at the “Sea” level. Even if everyone fought with all their might, they had almost no chance of winning.
“This won’t work. If we keep running like this, we’ll lead it to the air raid shelters where other students are hiding,” Li Zhenzhen said anxiously, looking at the direction they were heading.
Lu Baoyou narrowed his eyes, a grim expression flashing across his face. He gripped the straight knife at his waist and twisted his body to charge directly at the Mi-Go!
A pair of broken dark red wings unfurled from Lu Baoyou’s back. These wings could no longer allow him to fly, only to help him leap from the ground and maintain balance as he swung his knife toward the Mi-Go’s head.
A faint light flashed, and a grotesque giant mouth opened on the blade of the knife, emitting a teeth-grinding screech like a demon.
The space-time around the Mi-Go suddenly fluctuated. Before Lu Baoyou’s knife could touch its body, he was forcibly repelled. Several long, sharp limbs shot out, opening several bloody holes in Lu Baoyou’s body.
Lu Baoyou grunted, his single eye glaring fiercely at the Mi-Go. Enduring the intense pain, he forcefully swung his knife again!
The Mi-Go seemed surprised that this person still had strength left. This strike wasn’t blocked by the disturbed space-time but landed directly on the Mi-Go’s pink shell surface, producing a harsh scraping sound as dense sparks flew!
Boom—!!
The Mi-Go’s body shuddered, knocking the blood-covered Lu Baoyou out of the sky. Just as he was about to crash onto the concrete ground, a white tiger afterimage flashed by, catching him at the last possible moment.
“Are you crazy?” a growl emerged from white tiger Fang Mo’s throat.
The Mi-Go in mid-air vibrated its membrane wings, flying toward Lu Baoyou like lightning again. But before it could fly more than a few meters, its form seemed to become embedded in the night, freezing in mid-air.
A deep red shadow condensed from the night sky. A sword flash erupted, like a silver-white lightning bolt tearing through the sky. Everyone only felt a blur before their eyes, and then the figure was standing steadily on the ground.
At the same time, the Mi-Go frozen in mid-air was smoothly cut in half from the center.
Lin Qiye reached toward the Mi-Go in the night sky and suddenly clenched his fist. In the darkness, it was as if countless giant beasts had caught the two halves of the Mi-Go’s body, frantically tearing them into countless pieces that fell like a rain of blood across the sky.
“Lord Seven Night!” White tiger Fang Mo’s eyes flashed with joy upon seeing that figure.
Lin Qiye walked to Lu Baoyou, quickly scanning his body with mental power, his expression relaxing slightly:
“Fortunately, no vital organs were damaged. Take him to headquarters for treatment. Leave this place to me.”
“Instructor Lin, what kind of monster was that exactly?” Li Zhenzhen couldn’t help asking.
“That was a ‘Mi-Go’…” Lin Qiye said halfway, then seemed to sense something else and turned his head toward a certain direction. “I’ll explain later. There are fourteen more…”
Lin Qiye’s form flickered and instantly disappeared. The reserve team members were stunned for a moment before Su Zhe tentatively spoke:
“Did Instructor Lin just say fourteen more… they couldn’t all be in this school, right?”
“So many ‘Klein’ level monsters? Can they really handle it?”
Fang Mo transformed back into human form and heavily knocked Su Zhe’s head. “That’s the [Nightfall]. Are you questioning Lord Seven Night and their abilities?”
Su Zhe scratched his head, still finding it hard to believe. “The number is just too ridiculous… Are all special squads this strong? Does that mean we could be like that in the future?”
“We’ll talk about the future later. If we don’t leave now, we might not have a future at all,” Fang Mo said, carrying Lu Baoyou on his back as he quickly walked toward the gates of Beijing University.
……
“Junior…”
“Hmm?”
“Do you also have a special identity like Junior Cao Yuan?”
In the empty venue, Lu Menglei anxiously looked at the silent campus around her, feeling an inexplicable chill. She summoned her courage, trying to ease the tension in her heart.
An Qingyu rubbed his aching temples, already feeling somewhat better than before. He weakly replied:
“I suppose so… cough cough cough…”
Seeing An Qingyu’s hunched, coughing figure, Lu Menglei pressed her lips together, clutching her bag with the bamboo sword tightly to her chest, vigilantly surveying the surroundings.
From her perspective, there were only three of them in this open space: herself, this physically weak disabled junior in a wheelchair, and a small blue cat. She didn’t know why Cao Yuan had left her here, but among the three, she was undoubtedly the strongest.
Perhaps Cao Yuan had left her here hoping she would protect this junior?
With this thought, Lu Menglei’s gaze grew more determined. She gripped the handle of the bamboo sword in her bag, her light purple dress fluttering in the evening breeze.
“Meow—!” Suddenly, the blue cat lying beside An Qingyu’s wheelchair sprang up, staring intently at a certain direction in the darkness, arching its back with all its fur standing on end!
This startled Lu Menglei. She immediately gripped her bamboo sword and looked in that direction.
Behind the dimly lit stage, a massive monster slowly floated up. The buzzing sound of vibrating membrane wings echoed in Lu Menglei’s ears as sand and pebbles on the ground were blown about. When she clearly saw the Mi-Go’s head, a fleshy bulb covered with tentacles, she froze in place.
What the hell is that thing?!!
Lu Menglei’s hand holding the bamboo sword trembled slightly. She instinctively stepped back, then glanced at An Qingyu behind her. After a moment’s hesitation, she gritted her teeth and stepped forward again!
She gripped the bamboo sword with both hands, pointing the blade at the approaching Mi-Go. Her face was pale, her chest heaving violently as she deliberately tried to control her breathing.
“Meow—!”
Thunder Beast Laifeng was about to pounce forward when it suddenly paused. It turned its head toward another direction, where two more Mi-Go were rapidly approaching from the pitch-black clouds!
“So these are Mi-Go…” An Qingyu stared blankly at the three pink monsters approaching, his eyes tinged with despair. He tried to use [The Only Correct Solution], but after persisting for less than a second, he began coughing violently.
