Chapter 1476 Ancestral God
“Original God?”
Upon hearing these three words, Lin Qiye immediately recalled his conversation with Thor in Asgard.
Seeing Lin Qiye’s reaction, Spiritual Treasure Heavenly Lord looked at him with surprise, “You know about this?”
“I’ve heard a little about it from elsewhere, but not much,” Lin Qiye answered honestly.
The Spiritual Treasure Heavenly Lord nodded and began to explain under the puzzled gazes of the other human elites,
“The birth of human faith can be roughly divided into three stages: nature worship, ancestor worship, and religious worship.
In the beginning, when humans had not yet fully evolved into humans, they developed the most primitive fear and respect for the changing phenomena of nature, which became the earliest ‘faith’ in this world – nature worship. As time passed, nature worship gradually evolved, branching into soul worship, totem worship, and other variations, but they were all essentially worship of nature and the unknown.
As human consciousness gradually improved, they began to worship their ancestors, hoping to receive protection and blessings by making offerings to them. This marked the first time human worship shifted from ‘nature’ to ‘humans themselves’ – this is ancestor worship.
After human society took shape, with the accumulation of primitive beliefs and the emergence of cultural differences, many widely recognized stories and objects of worship appeared. The Western Holy Church is one of the most classic examples of religious worship. The Heavenly Court, Olympus, Asgard, Takamagahara… Most of today’s ‘mythologies’ fall somewhere between religious worship and folk religion’s ‘general worship’.
The closer a mythological system is to ‘religious worship’, the more faith power it absorbs, and the stronger it becomes. This is why the Western Holy Church was once the most powerful. Our Great Xia’s ‘Tao’ and India’s ‘Buddha’ are also based on traditional ‘religious worship’, but because fewer people believe in these nowadays, our power is somewhat less than the Western Holy Church, though still greater than other mythologies.”
Hearing this, the many human elites from Great Xia finally showed expressions of enlightenment.
They had always understood the power hierarchy of the various divine countries in the world, but only now did they understand the deeper reasons.
“But what does this have to do with this place?” Guan Zai asked in confusion.
“What I just said about being closer to ‘religious worship’ making one stronger only applies to modern mythological systems. But the mythology represented by this place before us is an exception.
What they represent is not ‘religious worship’, but the oldest, most primitive ‘nature worship’, the earliest ‘faith’ to appear in this world.
They are the embodiments of humanity’s fear and respect for nature itself when humans first emerged. Their believers were not only humans but also the countless life forms living on this planet.
Beasts that feared fire, birds that revered thunder, fish living in water… Though they lacked high intelligence, they were extremely numerous. These creatures, along with early humans, were the earliest ‘believers’ in nature.
Fire, thunder, sun, night, water… The faith power born from fear and respect, under some force, first gave birth to the existence of ‘gods’. These oldest, most primitive deities, we call them ‘Progenitor Gods’.
This place was where, countless ages ago, billions of lives worshipped the ‘Progenitor Gods’. It is the birthplace of the world’s oldest divine country… the Temple of Progenitor Gods.”
“The oldest ‘nature worship’… If that’s the case, wouldn’t they be stronger than the Western Holy Church at its peak?” Guan Zai asked.
“Correct,” the Spiritual Treasure Heavenly Lord paused. “This mythology has no distinction between main gods and lesser gods. Any single ‘Progenitor God’ from that time would be capable of suppressing the Archangel Michael.”
Everyone opened their mouths in shock.
Their gazes swept across the surroundings, where over ten divine statues stood on this platform… If what the Spiritual Treasure Heavenly Lord said was true, then if the Temple of Progenitor Gods took action, even all the world’s mythologies combined, including the Western Holy Church, might not be its match?
“Of course, I’m talking about their prime, back in ancient times,” the Spiritual Treasure Heavenly Lord continued. “As time passed, with the emergence of other ‘religious worship’ and ‘folk general worship’, almost no one worshipped the Progenitor Gods anymore. After the Mist descended upon the world, the number of animals and plants sharply decreased, and their faith power was almost cut off.
Today, the Progenitor Gods mythology is just a legend. The Progenitor Gods no longer exist in the world… and even if they do, their power is extremely weak, and they rarely appear in the world.”
Lin Qiye immediately thought of No. 27’s appearance.
According to Thor, No. 27 was the God of Hunting from the primitive mythology… or perhaps he should be called the ‘Hunting Progenitor’. Now that the Progenitor Gods have declined and their faith has disappeared, he can only operate in the world as the God of Assassins, with power only at the level of a main god.
Lin Qiye never imagined that in ancient times, No. 27 would have been a terrifying existence capable of suppressing an Archangel in single combat.
Come to think of it, after killing Loki, there had been no news from him, and he hadn’t come looking for Lin Qiye. Who knows if something had happened…
While Lin Qiye was lost in thought, Zuo Qing spoke up:
“But if this is the Temple of Progenitor Gods from ancient times, shouldn’t it be on Earth? How did it appear here?”
“I’m not sure,” the Spiritual Treasure Heavenly Lord shook his head. “The era of the Progenitor Gods is too distant, even I cannot calculate it… but from the traces here, it seems to have been forced into this space-time by some external force.”
“Just like us?” Zuo Qing nodded thoughtfully.
Nezha’s gaze swept across the surrounding divine statues one by one, finally landing on the center of the platform, his eyebrows slightly raised.
“These Progenitor God statues are positioned at the edge of the platform, but their faces all seem to be facing toward the center… is there something there?”
Everyone looked in the direction the Progenitor God statues were facing. In the center of the platform, there was a slightly raised area. However, because of the distance, even Lin Qiye couldn’t see clearly. From its outline, it looked like a table for holding some kind of object, or perhaps a solid pedestal.
After confirming there was no danger nearby, everyone passed through the edge of the platform and walked directly toward the central position that the Progenitor God statues were facing.
As they gradually approached, Lin Qiye finally saw the full appearance of that object.
It was an empty divine altar.
