Chapter 1297 Having a Chance of Victory
“Who?”
Lin Qiye quickly put away the walkie-talkie and spoke in a low voice.
“That girl who was with you during the day.”
“Xiao Nan?”
Lin Qiye asked in surprise, “Are you sure it’s her? Not someone else in disguise?”
“It’s her, I remember her aura.”
“Okay.”
Si Xiaonan’s sudden visit caught Lin Qiye by surprise, considering his residence was right next to Sol’s temple, with a significant chance of being discovered.
Just as Lin Qiye was pondering, a small paper ball suddenly flew in through the window and landed at his feet.
“She’s gone,” No. 27 said after sensing for a moment.
Lin Qiye bent down to pick up the note and spread it open in his palm. A line of intermittent dots and lines appeared before his eyes.
“Morse code…” Lin Qiye raised an eyebrow.
During training camp, they had received instruction in various special skills, with Morse code being an important part of the curriculum. After all, while those outer gods could understand conversations in Chinese, they couldn’t comprehend meaningless symbols like dots and lines.
Deciphering these codes wasn’t difficult for Lin Qiye.
Soon, he translated the contents of the note: “Stone monument on the west side of Miracle Square.”
Si Xiaonan was also aware of the danger here, so she actively asked Lin Qiye to leave the vicinity of the temple. It seemed she truly had something important to say.
Lin Qiye inhaled No. 27 into his lungs, quickly opened the door, and walked toward the empty square under the cover of night.
The night was almost over, with a thin mist shrouding the deserted streets. Lin Qiye’s gaze swept across the dim square, finally spotting the stone monument Si Xiaonan mentioned at the westernmost edge.
This monument was about a hundred meters tall, with ancient Nordic text carved in crimson strokes on its surface. Lin Qiye glanced at it briefly; it seemed to be praising some ancient warrior who defeated a dragon. Wielding a mortal sword, he fought the dragon with courage and wisdom, eventually killing it but dying from exhaustion, becoming a hero revered by the most ancient humans.
Lin Qiye had no interest in clichéd hero stories. He walked to one side of the monument, slowly sat down, and felt the cool morning breeze sweep across the empty square as the whole world fell into silence.
“Xiao Nan?” he called softly.
“Yes.” Si Xiaonan’s voice came from the shadows on the other side of the monument.
“What happened?”
“I saw the message Cold Xuan left… your brothers have arrived.”
Lin Qiye was stunned, quickly picturing Baili Pangpang and the others. “Them? How did they find this place? Where are they?”
“I’m not sure exactly how they found their way here, but they’re now in the ‘Human Circle’ with the Shangxie Society members. Loki has sealed the passage between the ‘Human Circle’ and Asgard, so they can’t come up. They’re with Cold Xuan now.”
Hearing this, Lin Qiye actually felt relieved.
The situation in Asgard was too dangerous now. If they had come up, they would be in mortal danger, but staying in the “Human Circle” with the Shangxie Society members should be much safer.
“How are things on your end? Have you contacted Great Xia?” Si Xiaonan asked.
“…No, something’s not right,” Lin Qiye’s voice was extremely grave. “I’ve been calling Great Xia all night using the walkie-talkie Ji Nian left, but got no response… something might have happened to them.”
On the other side of the monument, Si Xiaonan remained silent for a long time before slowly speaking:
“I just received news that the twelve city-destroying corpses raised by Hela, Queen of the Underworld, which are comparable to major gods, have suddenly disappeared… If I’m not mistaken, they’ve probably gone to Great Xia.”
Lin Qiye’s mind quickly flashed back to the scene in the underworld where those twelve terrifying beasts tore the blind god Höder to pieces, and his heart trembled!
So those twelve city-destroying corpses were Loki’s weapon against Great Xia?
Twelve city-destroying corpses, twelve war fortresses… Damn! He should have realized it earlier! Such massive beasts would be too clumsy for divine warfare, but for attacking cities, they would be absolutely unstoppable!
Lin Qiye’s fists clenched involuntarily.
“Could it be that Loki had already guessed Great Xia would make a move on the day he challenged for supremacy, so he created twelve city-destroying corpses as a preemptive defense?” Lin Qiye frowned. “No wonder he announced the news so prominently days in advance. Was it all calculated?”
“Although those city-destroying corpses are powerful, it’s almost impossible to contain Great Xia with just these… He must have other backup plans,” Si Xiaonan said gravely.
Lin Qiye finally understood why Loki had so publicly announced his intention to challenge for supremacy tomorrow. His goal wasn’t to guard against Thor and others… from the beginning, he was guarding against Great Xia!
If he hadn’t announced when he would challenge for supremacy, no one could have predicted when Great Xia would move against Asgard. But by actively releasing the information, he could to some extent anticipate Great Xia’s actions. As long as he could delay the Great Xia gods on the day of his challenge, he could safely ascend to supremacy that day.
As for whether Great Xia would retaliate afterward… by then he would already be the Supreme God, controlling all of Asgard and holding an advantageous position, so he wouldn’t fear a surprise attack from the Great Xia Celestial Court!
Facts proved that everything happened exactly as Loki had anticipated.
Now that Great Xia was in trouble, they couldn’t respond to Lin Qiye’s calls, and all plans had been disrupted.
“Without reinforcements from Great Xia, we are now… completely isolated,” Lin Qiye laughed bitterly. “How could just the two of us possibly overthrow all of Asgard?”
The cold wind swept across the empty square. At the distant horizon, a pale light slowly rose, its faint glow reflecting across Asgard’s sky, stretching the monument’s shadow very long…
The faint light of dawn tore through the gloomy sky, and two lonely figures sat on opposite sides of the shadow, silent.
Si Xiaonan’s hands, resting on her knees, slowly clenched into fists. She took a deep breath and stood up from the edge of the monument.
She turned to look at the distant dawn, and a determined light appeared in her gray eyes:
“Seven, don’t take action tomorrow, just stand by and watch quietly… Even if we can’t overthrow Asgard, as long as we can kill Loki, Great Xia won’t lose!”
“You want to kill Loki yourself?” Lin Qiye quickly shook his head. “He’s the God of Mischief, and you’ve seen his methods. You haven’t even ascended to godhood… there’s almost no chance of success.”
“…There is.”
“What?”
Si Xiaonan’s lips tightened. Though covered in wounds, her eyes were more brilliant than the morning sun.
“There is!
I do have a chance!
Seven, do you know? I should have died long ago when I betrayed the Night Watchers and left Great Xia! The only reason I’ve survived until now, staying by Loki’s side and serving him for so many years, doing so many dirty deeds for him, making so many preparations in secret… was for this day!
No one in this world understands Loki better than I do!
If anyone below the Supreme has the best chance to kill Loki, it won’t be Thor, it won’t be the Assassin God inside you, nor will it be any other powerful major god…
It can only be me!
The only thing that can truly kill ‘trickery’… is ‘trickery’ itself!”
