Chapter 1229 A Glimmer of Hope

The flowing black hair scattered, a bloody figure fell from the sky.

No. 22 crashed into the yellow sand like a corpse. His bloodied eyes opened with difficulty, looking at the white-robed woman who emerged from the black hair holding the [Scepter]. In his daze, her silhouette overlapped with a certain enchanting goddess in his memory.

No. 22 seemed to recall something, endless humiliation filling his chest. His eyes widened in fury, venomous as if about to spit fire:

“Gods… Gods! Always the gods!”

“These damn gods!”

“Just you wait… as long as I don’t die, sooner or later, I’ll make you all know… what it feels like to be dogs!”

No. 22’s curses were drowned in the howling wind. Gritting his teeth, he dug his remaining five fingers into the sandy ground, dragging his stiff body like a worm, inching bit by bit away from the battlefield.

In the sky, the pink flush gradually faded from the white-robed goddess’s cheeks. She licked her bright red lips and turned to look at the crescent-shaped boat.

The old man stood under the dim sky, his aged hand holding a white-hot heart, slowly pulling it out from Bifitu’s body.

Bifitu’s eyes widened in rage, his chest heaved twice, and soon he stopped breathing. His corpse hung like a dead fish at the front of the crescent boat, drifting in the wind.

“A perfect sacrifice,” the old man remarked appreciatively, holding the beating heart and examining it carefully for a long time.

He tossed the heart in his hand, which transformed into countless blood threads and merged into the [Holy Grail].

The old man didn’t stop there. He turned to Bifitu’s corpse like a meticulous fisherman, knife in hand, carefully cutting off every piece of the Sun God’s body and throwing them into the [Holy Grail].

As the Sun God’s heart and torso merged in, the crimson liquid swirling inside the cup rose rapidly, almost overflowing, emitting an intoxicating fragrance.

After completely dismembering Bifitu, the old man waved his hand, and the incomplete corpse was casually tossed into the desert below like garbage.

“Is it enough?” the white-robed goddess asked softly.

“It should be about right,” the old man replied, glancing at the full liquid in the [Holy Grail] as he held it by the base.

His gaze swept across this world, the smile on his lips gradually fading, replaced by solemnity and dignity.

Standing on the crescent boat, he spoke softly:

“From today, the glory of Sumer… shall return to the world.”

He held the [Holy Grail] with both hands, raising it above his head. The overflowing liquid churned within the cup.

The old man took a deep breath,

And made his first wish:

“Inanna, Goddess of Love and War, Gibil, God of Fire, let your divine power be restored!”

As his words fell, the white-robed goddess and the red-armored man standing in the sky felt their dried-up divine power surge again. Two terrifying auras of major gods erupted in succession!

Inanna closed her beautiful eyes, feeling the long-absent fullness within her body, and let out a long breath.

“A hundred years… finally back…”

Three figures stood in the moonlight, the aura of ancient gods descending upon the world again after countless years.

“Inanna, Gibil…” Lin Qiye stood in the wild sand in the distance, looking up at the three figures in the sky, murmuring.

He had seen both names in the archives of the Shangxie Society, major gods of Sumerian mythology. If he wasn’t mistaken, the old man standing on the crescent boat in the middle was the Moon God Nanna.

The Moon God Nanna raised the Holy Grail high, about to say something more, when his brow furrowed.

“What’s wrong?” Fire God Gibil asked puzzledly.

“Restoring divine power consumed more than I expected. We still need a bit more sacrifice to complete that wish…” Nanna said gravely.

Gibil paused for a moment, then said, “It’s fine. Below there’s still an agent with extraordinary vitality, and to the east there’s a group of fleeing Uruk survivors. Killing them should be enough.”

“Then I’ll go kill the survivors, and you take care of that agent,” said Inanna, Goddess of Love and War.

Gibil turned his head toward Lin Qiye’s direction, his form transforming into a streak of flame, instantly disappearing.

Seeing this flame flying straight toward him, Lin Qiye’s heart sank, and his form transformed into a streak of darkness, rapidly flying in the opposite direction!

After losing the [Scepter], Lin Qiye’s mental power level had returned, but even so, he couldn’t possibly shake off a major god.

Damn it!!

Why chase only me and not that barely-dead No. 22?!

Lin Qiye cursed inwardly.

He had no idea how extraordinarily vibrant his life force appeared to these gods after undergoing faith baptism and consuming the peach. Not just one No. 22, even ten combined wouldn’t match him.

As the streak of flame passed by, the distance between them visibly shortened. Feeling the surging heat wave from behind, Lin Qiye grew increasingly anxious.

An unprecedented shadow of death rapidly enveloped his heart.

Before Gibil’s divine power was restored, Lin Qiye could fight him evenly, but now the other could crush him with just one finger!

Before a true god, a “Klein” was no different from an ordinary person—both were mere ants.

In this life-or-death moment, Lin Qiye quickly ran through all his trump cards: soul bearing, Kusanagi sword, summoning thunder beasts… He had many cards, but none could threaten a major god.

Suddenly, as if remembering something, Lin Qiye took out a [Star Coin] emitting a faint blue light from his bosom.

“The King’s [Star Coin]…” A spark of hope ignited in Lin Qiye’s eyes.

Being on par with the [Scepter], [Holy Grail], and [Sword], the [Star Coin] must possess some extremely powerful ability—one that even made the hero king Gilgamesh wary in the past. This might be the only way out now!

But how to use it?

The introduction to the [Star Coin] had been deliberately erased, and Gilgamesh hadn’t mentioned how to use it before falling into chaos…

The light blue [Star Coin] rotated clockwise incessantly in Lin Qiye’s palm, its shifting light reflecting in his eyes, making him momentarily dazed.

As if possessed, he placed the [Star Coin] between his thumb and index finger joint, and flicked it hard!

Ding——!!

A crisp humming sound rang out.

The light blue [Star Coin], propelled by his thumb, was tossed high into the dim sky.

The polished coin surface clearly reflected Lin Qiye’s eyes and the flame streak close behind him, beginning to spin rapidly counterclockwise in the air!
