Chapter 1212 Beneath the Ancient Well

“The odds are actually this high?!” Everyone’s eyes lit up with joy.

“But the premise is, we need to find the other three ‘supreme’ artifacts.”

“Now we only know the whereabouts of the King’s [Scepter], but what about the other three? Where are they?”

“What’s the rush! We have Myers the prophet with us. As long as these three artifacts are still in the treasury, we’ll find them sooner or later.”

After discussing for a while, everyone looked expectantly at Lin Qiye.

Lin Qiye nodded thoughtfully, “Actually, in the prophecy just now, I’ve already vaguely sensed the location of the [Holy Grail].”

“You’ve already found the [Holy Grail]? So quickly?” The agents exclaimed in surprise.

“Yes, if I’m not mistaken, the [Holy Grail] is hidden in a dried-up oasis somewhere in the desert…”

“Then let’s set off now!”

“…not so fast.” Lin Qiye wearily held his forehead, “Just now, I only roughly sensed its location, I’m not clear about exactly how far we need to go, and because of the consecutive prophecies, my mental energy is somewhat depleted.

Let’s rest here tonight, and when I recover tomorrow, we’ll go find the [Holy Grail].”

Hearing this, some agents looked troubled.

“But we only have less than two days left. If the marks those two gods left in our bodies start to take effect…”

“Haha, you’re too nervous.” Lin Qiye said with a smile, speaking unhurriedly,

“After I recover tomorrow morning, I can prophesy the whereabouts of all the artifacts. This treasury isn’t too large; we can search for them one by one and gather all the artifacts in half a day at most.

Now, we’re all in the same boat. If you can’t get the four artifacts and kill those two gods, then I’ll also be trapped here to death by them.

How could I harm you?”

Everyone pondered for a moment, and their expressions softened somewhat.

“Alright, let’s rest here tonight and set off tomorrow to find the [Holy Grail].” Claude nodded in agreement.

…

“The dungeon was attacked?”

The city lord’s face darkened upon hearing a servant’s report, “What about the intruders?”

“They… are still safely locked up in prison. Just one servant who had an argument with them earlier died, his head was smashed in.”

The servant seemed to recall some disgusting scene, his face turning pale.

“Someone died, but they didn’t escape?” The city lord frowned, confusion appearing on his aged face,

“Could it be… simply revenge?”

“We don’t know. We questioned the intruders, but they wouldn’t say anything.”

“…I see.” The city lord was silent for a moment, “Throughout countless ages, Crow City has never had intruders, yet this time so many appeared at once…

Could it be that this world is truly about to fall into chaos?”

“City lord, what should we do now?”

“Early tomorrow morning, kill the intruders and offer them as sacrifices to the three gods… and send that dead servant along with them.” The city lord said slowly,

“Notify all residents in the city to enter the highest alert status, and be ready at any time to activate the inherited artifacts for maintenance, to deal with more external invasions.”

Hearing this, the servant’s expression changed:

“City lord, is the situation that serious?

Even though twenty-some intruders came at once this time, weren’t they instantly suppressed by you? As long as you have the [Scepter], no matter how many intruders come, they can’t threaten us, right?”

“The [Scepter], however strong, is just one artifact, and we are ordinary people.” The city lord looked down at the cane in his hand, a trace of worry flashing in his eyes,

“Moreover, not all ‘supreme’ artifacts in this world are under our control.”

“You’re worried about…”

The city lord sighed, his gaze turning to Crow City shrouded in darkness outside the window, “May the three gods bless us…”

…

The sky gradually brightened.

The morning sun fell on the ancient brick pavement as more than ten servants, holding one end of silver chains, led twenty-some prisoners with black bags over their heads toward the execution platform at the edge of the city.

Many residents stood on both sides of the street, cautiously observing these twenty-some intruders, curiosity mixed with a hint of fear.

“They’re the ones who caused trouble in the city yesterday!”

“They say they’re intruders from outside this world? What do they look like?”

“They look similar to us, two eyes, one nose, one mouth, except some of them have skin color different from ours, whiter than bleached cloth!”

“Really? I didn’t see them yesterday!”

“Good thing you weren’t there. My arm was almost cut off by them… if the city lord hadn’t intervened in time, I might have already been sacrificed to the three gods.”

“Kill them quickly!”

“…”

Amid the cries of Crow City residents, the twenty-some “agents” were brought to the center of the execution platform.

Sharp blade lights flashed in succession, and moments later, twenty-some mutilated bodies fell to the ground with a thud, blood slowly flowing along the scaffold of the execution platform.

“Sacrifice to the three gods!”

Someone among the servants shouted, and everyone immediately threw all twenty-some bodies into an ancient blood-colored stone well.

Dull thuds echoed in the ancient well as the twenty-some mutilated bodies were all swallowed by the narrow darkness, disappearing from sight.

“May the three gods bless us.”

Seeing this, everyone bowed their heads and chanted.

After the execution, when the crowd dispersed, the servants also threw a corpse hidden under a black cloth in the corner, its head smashed in, into the ancient well.

They stood by the ancient well, gazing into the abyss before them, and murmured:

“May the three gods bless us…”

The servants left, and complete silence fell around the ancient well.

No one noticed that in the deepest part of this dark, narrow ancient well, three figures, motionless like stone statues, slowly opened their eyes.

“So many sacrifices have come… Is this enough for the sacrifice to the [Holy Grail]?”

One of the stone statues spoke in a deep voice.

Rustle, rustle—

Fine gravel fell from the central stone statue as it raised its dust-covered arm, holding up a mysterious dark golden chalice.

Viscous blood swayed at the edge of the cup, already filling more than half of it.

A dim light flashed, and the twenty-some bloody bodies piled in the center of the ancient well automatically floated up, transforming into pools of blood that flowed into the dark golden chalice.

“Hmm?” The central statue narrowed its eyes, “These sacrifices… have no life.”

“No life?”

“These are soulless artificial bodies, they cannot be used as sacrifices for the [Holy Grail].” The central statue was silent for a moment, “Someone has entered the [King’s Treasury].”

“People sent by other divine realms?” The left statue frowned.

“Unexpected that after so long, someone still covets this treasury… Since these are all soulless artificial bodies, those fools above must have been tricked by the outsiders.

Their real bodies must be hidden somewhere in this [Treasury].”
