Chapter 1186 Hidden Deity
“Cthulhu comes from another world? What does that mean? An alien invasion?” Lin Qiye asked in confusion.
“I don’t know, these are just my guesses, because besides this theory, I can’t think of any other explanation,” Ji Nian shrugged and said, “But what’s certain is that these fictional monsters that walked out of novels are definitely not the gods and myths as we understand them. Our existing power levels, abilities, rules, and other intelligence cannot be applied to them.
Their very existence is a kind of ‘unknown.'”
Lin Qiye’s gaze swept across several of the display stands. “Besides this, are there any other clues?”
“Yes.”
Ji Nian nodded solemnly. “Do you see that broken volcanic rock in the middle?”
Lin Qiye walked to the display stand Ji Nian mentioned, his gaze penetrating the glass to fall upon a broken rock over a meter tall. On the rough surface of the rock, one could vaguely see dense, twisted patterns, like some ancient drawing.
“What is this thing?”
“It’s an ancient inscription excavated from around one of the Cthulhu ruins. We can’t determine exactly which era it’s from, but after technical restoration by Research Institute No. 2, we can roughly interpret its meaning.”
Ji Nian paused for a moment. “This inscription likely records the history of when the Cthulhu gods were sealed on the moon.”
Lin Qiye raised an eyebrow. “But don’t we already know this history quite clearly?”
“No, it’s not that simple.”
Ji Nian extended her hand, pointing to a certain area. “Look at this picture.”
Lin Qiye followed her fingertip. In the ancient drawing, clusters of twisted lines flew up, converging inside a circular sphere in the sky, hanging at the top of the image.
“Is this the Cthulhu gods ascending to the moon?” Lin Qiye roughly guessed the meaning of the image.
“Correct. Now look here.”
Ji Nian moved her finger to the bottom of the picture.
“This is…” Lin Qiye’s eyes narrowed slightly.
On the black rock surface, three twisted line patterns in dark red strokes lay at the bottom beneath countless ascending lines, as if lurking in the deep underground, motionless.
“From the meaning of this drawing, there are three Cthulhu gods who were not sealed on the moon,” Ji Nian said seriously, looking into Lin Qiye’s eyes and enunciating each word. “They… have been hiding somewhere on Earth all along.”
“There are still Cthulhu gods existing on Earth?!”
Lin Qiye’s expression immediately became grave.
“After discovering this possibility, we dispatched a large number of personnel to more thoroughly explore the existing Cthulhu deity ruins. Through technical restoration and countless inferences and conjectures, combined with relevant content from Cthulhu mythology, we can roughly identify these three Cthulhu gods.”
Ji Nian took a deep breath and slowly said:
“They are: [The Black Goat] Shub-Niggurath, [The Key to the Gate] Yog-Sothoth, and [Chaos] Nyarlathotep. In some fictional settings, they are also designated as the three pillar gods of Cthulhu mythology.”
“[The Black Goat], [The Key to the Gate], [Chaos]…” Lin Qiye murmured these names.
Suddenly, he felt that the name [The Black Goat] Niggurath sounded familiar, as if he had heard it somewhere…
An Qingyu?
Lin Qiye thought briefly and recalled the future An Qingyu who appeared at the end of the river of time during the angel’s judgment in hell.
At that time, An Qingyu, looking at the Seraph Uriel controlled by red insects, said: “I didn’t expect that when we meet again, it would be in this form… It seems I should properly thank Niggurath.”
From this perspective, the future An Qingyu also knew about [The Black Goat] Shub-Niggurath? Or perhaps… they were on the same side?
Why did he want to thank [The Black Goat]?
Because it facilitated their meeting across time and space? Was it, or part of it, the red insect that controlled Uriel and triggered the future judgment?
As Lin Qiye was pondering, Ji Nian continued:
“According to our speculation, at least two of these three Cthulhu pillar gods left on Earth have awakened.”
“According to Cthulhu mythology, one of the characteristics of [The Black Goat] Shub-Niggurath is its super-strong reproductive ability, which is why it’s called the Supreme Mother Goddess, the Black Goat of the Woods who gives birth to countless offspring.
The red insects and flesh tumors that controlled the corpses of angels and demons you encountered in hell before, as well as the worms that formed Odin’s eyeball some time ago, are likely its offspring, under its control.”
“The second is [The Key to the Gate] Yog-Sothoth. The nameless fog that destroyed the world a hundred years ago had intricate connections with it. It can even be speculated that this fog was part of its body.”
Lin Qiye’s brow furrowed deeper.
According to Ji Nian, [The Black Goat] and [The Key to the Gate] – the former controlled heaven and hell, attempting to create a unique divine realm for Cthulhu gods, while the latter single-handedly created the current tragic state of Earth and was the fundamental reason for the Great Xia gods falling into reincarnation… Their power and intent to subvert the world far exceeded Lin Qiye’s imagination.
“What about the last one?”
“[Chaos] Nyarlathotep’s most important characteristic is its fondness for deceiving and tempting humans, and it finds its greatest joy in driving humans to terror, despair, and ultimately insanity.
We haven’t discovered any events related to it yet, so for now we’ve classified it as still dormant… or perhaps it’s just waiting for the right moment.”
Lin Qiye nodded thoughtfully. “Indeed, we haven’t found anything like that.”
“In any case, we must always be on guard against these three Cthulhu gods hiding on Earth… otherwise, things could get very bad.” Ji Nian licked her slightly chapped lips and said,
“I’ve warned you about what you need to know. If Research Institute No. 2 makes any new discoveries, I’ll update you.
Take your time looking for materials on Sumerian mythology. I need to attend to other matters now.”
After saying goodbye to Lin Qiye, Ji Nian walked straight out of the castle.
Lin Qiye took one last look at the Cthulhu relic collection hall, took a deep breath, and slowly exhaled, seemingly still processing the bombshell news.
He returned to the third floor of the castle, casually picked up an investigation file on Sumerian mythology, sat down, and began to read through it carefully.
As Ji Nian had said, there were few files on Sumerian mythology, but extracting useful information from these fragmented pieces was a massive undertaking.
Time passed minute by minute, and by the time Lin Qiye finished reading all the files and left the castle, it was already deep night in [Utopia].
