Chapter 1185 Myths That Shouldn’t Exist

Lin Qiye followed her guidance and looked at the dark, mysterious ancient castle.

“Cthulhu ruins…” Lin Qiye frowned slightly, “Such things exist on Earth?”

“Yes, but those ruins are not as simple as you might imagine.”

Ji Nian nodded and walked straight toward the castle, “Entering there requires the highest level of authorization. Come on, I’ll take you in personally, and then you’ll understand.”

Lin Qiye stepped forward to follow.

After just a few steps, Cao Yuan patted his shoulder and said seriously:

“Qiye, I wouldn’t understand much if I went to check those archives… You should go in with Chairman Ji Nian alone, I’ll just wander around outside.”

“Me too!” Baili Pangpang immediately added, with a serious expression,

“I’ll go with Old Cao, otherwise he might get lost by himself.”

Lin Qiye: …

Lin Qiye didn’t bother exposing these two’s true intentions, he just nodded and said: “Fine, be careful, and contact me by radio if anything happens.”

After Cao Yuan and Baili Pangpang walked away, Lin Qiye followed Ji Nian into the archives’ entrance.

After going through a dizzying array of security measures, they directly entered the first floor of the castle.

Although the castle looked somewhat dilapidated from the outside, the interior was quite neat, with rows of shelves classified according to different pantheon lineages, arranged layer by layer, clear and organized at a glance.

“This floor stores all the relevant materials about the Greek and Norse pantheons, the second floor is for Indian and Egyptian, and the Sumerian pantheon materials you’re looking for are all on the third floor.”

Ji Nian explained to Lin Qiye while walking up the stairs to the second floor.

“The Sumerian mythology originated in Mesopotamia. Unlike Greek, Norse, Indian and other mythologies, this mythology is too ancient, and with the passage of time and dynastic changes, few people know of its existence.

Lack of belief, coupled with some changes between pantheons, has caused the Sumerian pantheon to basically decline, submerged in the river of time. It’s hard to say whether any deities from this pantheon have survived until now.”

The two arrived at the third floor, and Ji Nian reached out, pointing to a dust-covered shelf in the corner:

“That’s the shelf containing archives related to the Sumerian pantheon. There aren’t many materials, so it should be quick to go through… but you can start a bit later.”

“Why?” Lin Qiye asked in surprise.

“Because I want to show you something else.”

Ji Nian put both hands in her pockets and turned to continue walking upstairs.

“About Cthulhu?”

“Exactly.”

The two walked to the fourth floor, where several heavy pixel doors completely sealed off the entire floor. As Ji Nian waved her hand, these doors rose one by one.

Dim lights illuminated the end of the corridor. Ji Nian walked in front with a serious expression and slowly said:

“During the exploration of the Great Xia expedition teams and the development activities of the Shangxie Association, we have successively discovered some mysterious ruins on different continental plates.

After investigation and research, we can basically confirm that these ruins were left in a very ancient period. We spent a lot of manpower and resources to explore, and finally confirmed that these are all ruins left by the activities of Cthulhu deities.”

Passing through the end of the corridor, a large open space appeared in their vision, with dozens of display platforms orderly arranged on the pixel floor, covered with faintly glowing glass, like a museum exhibition full of mysterious atmosphere.

Lin Qiye’s gaze swept across these glass displays.

Black soil seeping with bizarre blood, broken tree trunks with strange palm prints, dark red insect molts dormant between rocks, gray river water fumigated by some kind of gas…

These strange and unusual exhibits all conveyed an eerie and unusual aura.

“The Shangxie Association has a [Research Institute No. 2] specifically responsible for secret archaeological research, and this castle was built by them.

According to the research of [Research Institute No. 2], it can be basically confirmed that small-scale Cthulhu deities were active on Earth in ancient times, and were later allegedly sealed on the moon by the gods of Heaven, which led to the red moon scene earlier.”

As Ji Nian finished speaking, Lin Qiye stopped at one of the glass displays, observing while calmly saying:

“Not allegedly, the Holy Lord of Heaven gathered some of Earth’s supreme gods and set a trap on the moon, using Heaven’s origin to seal the Cthulhu gods, while the other deities of Heaven basically died in the war with Hell.”

“Oh?”

Ji Nian raised her eyebrows in surprise, “Tell me more.”

This matter was indeed a secret to others, but Lin Qiye had just returned from Heaven and Hell not long ago, and had learned about that history from the Seraph Michael, enough to fill in the gaps in the Shangxie Association’s intelligence.

“I was thinking of sharing some intelligence with you, but I didn’t expect to gain something in return.” Ji Nian noted down the cause and effect of the matter and sighed.

Lin Qiye walked past these display cases one by one, as if remembering something:

“By the way, there’s another question. Why can’t the Divine Mental Hospital hold the souls of Cthulhu creatures? What exactly are they?”

Ji Nian pondered for a moment, looking into Lin Qiye’s eyes, and asked seriously:

“Let me ask you, how did you learn about the stories of the Cthulhu gods?”

“…” Lin Qiye shook his head, “I can’t remember clearly, should I have heard it from someone else? Or from some novel, or television?”

“Great Xia has never published any novels or television shows about Cthulhu deities, and as for hearing it from others… hehe, almost everyone gives the same answer.” Ji Nian shrugged, “Don’t you find it strange?”

“It is a bit strange. I’ve heard people say that this pantheon seems to have suddenly appeared in everyone’s mind… no one can accurately say where they got this information.”

“Of course no one can say.” Ji Nian shook her head and said, “Because it shouldn’t exist in this world at all.”

“What do you mean?”

“I should have told you that I’m not from this world… In the world I come from, the Cthulhu mythology does exist.

The Cthulhu mythology is a fictional setting system extended from the worldview of ‘The Call of Cthulhu,’ a novel published by American writer Howard Phillip Lovecraft in 1928. Fundamentally, it’s just fiction, not mythology.”

“1928? America?” Lin Qiye’s eyes were full of confusion, “This time…”

“That’s right, in this world, the Mist had already covered all places except Great Xia by 1922, so America naturally wouldn’t exist… ‘The Call of Cthulhu,’ which should have been published in 1928, naturally shouldn’t appear.

But it appeared anyway, in such a bizarre form. No one knows who proposed it, no one knows how it spread into everyone’s cognition. It’s like a ghost, quietly descending upon this world, and even in ancient Earth, their traces can be found.”

Ji Nian paused for a moment,

“I even suspect… that they, like me and your hospital, are not from this world.”
