Chapter 1166 The Li Family Tragedy

Nightwatcher?

Lin Qiye’s face showed a puzzled expression.

“Why did we stop?” Baili Pangpang rubbed his sleepy eyes, sat up from his chair, saw the two figures standing in front of the car, paused in surprise, and exclaimed:

“Isn’t that Qian Duoduo?”

Of the two figures blocking the car, one was indeed one of the new recruits that Lin Qiye and the others had trained earlier, while the other looked somewhat unfamiliar, probably a more experienced Nightwatcher who had been stationed in Linjiang City.

The unfamiliar Nightwatcher walked to the car and knocked on the window.

The window rolled down, and the person’s gaze swept across the car interior, his expression very serious:

“Excuse me, are you the [Nightfall] team?”

“Yes.” Lin Qiye nodded, “I’m the captain, Lin Qiye.”

“My name is Shi Wenxuan, captain of the Nightwatcher team stationed in Linjiang City.” Shi Wenxuan took out his emblem to verify his identity.

“Is there something wrong?”

“Did you visit the Li Corporation estate last night?”

Hearing this question, the five people in the car simultaneously tensed up, and Lin Qiye secretly sighed.

They still couldn’t hide it from the local Nightwatcher team… It seems that Li Jianbai reported it after all.

As long as Li Jianbai reported to the police afterward and described what happened to the local police station, due to the appearance of some supernatural phenomena, the case would definitely be transferred to the desk of the local Nightwatcher team. With just a little investigation, they would know about their arrival in Linjiang City.

Lin Qiye had anticipated this would happen and had mentally prepared himself to accept disciplinary action.

After a moment of silence, Lin Qiye straightforwardly nodded and admitted:

“Yes, I went there… but, it has nothing to do with them.”

All four people in the car turned to look at Lin Qiye.

Shi Wenxuan’s expression became even more solemn. He took a deep breath and slowly said:

“I’m sorry, but you’ll need to come with me.”

…

Linjiang City Nightwatcher team headquarters.

In a cramped room, Shi Wenxuan pulled out a stool, sat down across from Lin Qiye, and frowned as he stared into Lin Qiye’s eyes.

“This was all my doing alone,” Lin Qiye slowly began. “Whether it’s disciplinary action or criticism, direct it all at me alone, it has nothing to do with them.”

“…” Shi Wenxuan sighed,

“Captain Lin, how could you be so foolish… I don’t know what grievances you have with the Li Corporation, but they are ordinary people after all, while you are the captain of a special team.

Isn’t massacring an entire family going too far?”

Lin Qiye was about to say something when he suddenly froze.

“Massacre?” Lin Qiye’s brows furrowed tightly. “What massacre?”

Shi Wenxuan took out several photos, laid them out on the table one by one, and slowly said:

“Early this morning around six, the Li family’s butler returned to the estate by car and discovered the crime scene. He reported it to the police. These are photos from the scene… take a look.”

Lin Qiye’s gaze swept across the photos on the table, and his pupils suddenly contracted.

In the magnificent mansion, there were bloody, gruesome corpses everywhere. Broken wine glasses and luxurious jewelry were all soaked in crimson blood pools. Deep knife marks were embedded in the walls, like the claws of wild beasts, tearing open half of the mansion.

One of the photos showed a body in the drainage ditch outside the mansion. The neck had been cut open, separating the head from the body. The face of this person was all too familiar to Lin Qiye.

It was Li Jianbai, whom he had just met last night!

Lin Qiye flipped through these photos one by one, his expression extremely grim.

“More than fifty people who participated in the party, all perished here. The senior executives of Li Corporation were completely wiped out, not a single survivor… This is the biggest murder case in Linjiang City in decades.

Those marks on the walls, and the wounds on these bodies, don’t seem like something ordinary people could do. So the local police contacted us immediately. After investigation, we found that the only visitors to Linjiang City recently were your [Nightfall] team.”

Shi Wenxuan looked at Lin Qiye with complex emotions in his eyes,

“Captain Lin… why would you do this? For such an extremely malicious incident, you’ll face more than just disciplinary action…”

“No.” Lin Qiye firmly shook his head. “Impossible. I did go to the Li estate last night, but I only warned Li Jianbai privately. I didn’t do any of this.”

Shi Wenxuan was stunned.

He frowned in thought for a moment, then slowly said,

“Captain Lin, I’ve often heard about you from Duoduo before. He greatly admires you all. To be honest, I don’t believe you would do this either.

But, our Linjiang City has been peaceful and quiet for years. Not even a single ‘Mystery’ has appeared. And besides your team, no other superhumans have visited…”

“What about the surveillance?” Lin Qiye frowned and asked, “The Li estate should have surveillance equipment, right?”

“All surveillance systems in the estate simultaneously failed last night. This is also an important factor why I suspect this incident was man-made. After all, even if a ‘Mystery’ appeared, it wouldn’t likely use technical means to hack the surveillance…”

Surveillance failure?

The first person Lin Qiye thought of was Jiang Er.

“Captain Lin, if it wasn’t you, is it possible that one of your team members…” Shi Wenxuan tentatively began.

“Absolutely impossible.” Lin Qiye’s expression was extremely serious. “We do have some grievances with the Li family, but they would never commit such a massacre.”

Shi Wenxuan’s frown deepened.

“If that’s the case, then this matter…”

Ring ring ring—!!

Just as Shi Wenxuan was halfway through his sentence, Lin Qiye’s phone rang.

Lin Qiye took out his phone, glanced at the number on it, and immediately pressed the answer button.

“Hello? Commander Zuo?”

“I just received news about the Li incident,” Zuo Qing’s voice came from the other end of the phone. “You are now…”

“We didn’t do this,” Lin Qiye said firmly.

“Don’t worry, I certainly know it wasn’t you. Everyone has seen what you’ve done for Great Xia,” Zuo Qing’s voice was completely calm.

“You don’t need to rush back to Beijing now. Stay in Linjiang first and investigate this matter. Also, there’s something strange about Linjiang… You can investigate that as well. Shi Wenxuan will tell you the details.”

Only after hearing these words did Lin Qiye’s anxious heart finally settle down.

No matter what, as long as the Nightwatcher leadership believed them, things would be much simpler.

“Understood.” Lin Qiye nodded. “I will get to the bottom of this.”

Lin Qiye hung up the phone.

“Captain Shi.” Lin Qiye looked at Shi Wenxuan in front of him and said seriously, “For this matter, I may need the help of your local Nightwatcher team…”

“No problem.” Shi Wenxuan readily agreed.
