Chapter 1126 Demon

They looked exactly like demons from legends.

Strangely, these rapidly flying demons all had wounds or gaps to varying degrees. Some had half-shattered necks, some had only a hollow where their hearts should be, and some had bodies that seemed burned by holy light, charred over half their form.

Their eyes remained tightly shut, while countless red worms writhed in the fleshy protuberances on their foreheads, resembling an eerie eye that stared fixedly at Lin Qiye and his two companions.

“Are they demons?” Jiang Er’s expression was extremely grim.

Gray light flickered in An Qingyu’s eyes as he frowned, seemingly pondering something.

Just as he was about to speak, several massive black silhouettes emerged from the surrounding clouds. The buzzing sound of flesh wings beating the air resonated, and a thick crimson tail broke through the air from among them, whistling as it crashed into the cloud they stood on, forcefully dispersing it.

Losing their foothold, the three immediately plummeted toward the hell below.

The demons flapping their flesh wings in the sky had no intention of letting them go, diving toward them at astonishing speeds one after another.

“Qingyu!” Lin Qiye shouted in midair.

An Qingyu’s eyes focused as he forcefully clapped his hands in front of his chest. Large amounts of purple mist surged out from his sleeves, instantly concealing the three of them while engulfing the many demons diving from the sky.

Upon entering the purple mist, the demons lost sight of their targets. The red worm-eyes on their foreheads rotated frantically, trying to find Lin Qiye and the others in the endless purple.

Within the high-concentration mental pollution, the three held their breath as they free-fell. Lin Qiye raised a finger, and a brilliant magical light bloomed in the mist.

A massive Flame-veined Earth Dragon flapped its wings, flying out from the magic circle. Red flames flowed across its body surface, extremely conspicuous under the dim sky.

Roar—!

The Flame-veined Earth Dragon that emerged from the purple mist let out a roar, immediately attracting the attention of all demons. Streams of black lightning shot out, chasing the dragon into the distance.

Simultaneously, a spatial rift opened on the barren ground directly below the aerial battle.

Lin Qiye, holding [White Slash], quickly walked out with An Qingyu, while Jiang Er, who had been attached to An Qingyu, floated in midair, looking up at the black mass of demons pursuing into the distance, feeling relieved at their narrow escape.

Everything had happened too quickly. From the first demon attempting to annihilate them to dozens of demons joining the hunt, only six or seven seconds had passed.

If An Qingyu hadn’t released the purple mist to confuse their vision as they fell, if Lin Qiye hadn’t summoned Red Face to lure away the demons, and if he hadn’t secretly taken them through the void to escape, even if they had successfully returned to the ground, wouldn’t those demons have continued pursuing them? On this barren land without cover, they would have become living targets for the many demons, surrounded and killed.

Jiang Er carefully recalled what had just happened, and her expression toward Lin Qiye and An Qingyu became strange.

“What’s wrong?” An Qingyu asked, noticing her unusual expression.

“How did you two manage that?” Jiang Er couldn’t help asking. “You didn’t communicate at all, yet in such a short time, how did you know what the other was thinking and coordinate so perfectly?”

Hearing Jiang Er’s question, Lin Qiye and An Qingyu exchanged glances, both smiling helplessly.

“Just intuition, and in that situation, it was the only way to escape,” Lin Qiye explained briefly, then quickly continued, “Those demons are too powerful. Red Face can’t hold them off for long. They’ll find their way back soon. We need to leave here immediately.”

Given the current situation, flying was definitely not an option. With so many demons hidden in such a small area of ashen clouds, who knew how many more they might encounter if they flew further?

The three quickly passed through the barren region, rushing along the direction Lin Qiye had initially indicated, relying on their own speed.

“Weren’t almost all the demons in hell supposed to be killed? Why are there still so many?”

Jiang Er stretched out her hands, wearing a white dress, floating like a ghost above Lin Qiye and An Qingyu, asking in confusion.

“It is strange,” Lin Qiye pondered as he ran. “According to the Seraph, demons above the divine realm were almost completely eliminated, but some weaker demons survived… But from what we just saw, this is more than mere survival. How did so many demons hiding in the clouds survive back then?”

An Qingyu was silent for a moment. “Perhaps they didn’t survive.”

Hearing this, Lin Qiye’s eyebrows raised slightly.

“What do you mean?”

“I tried analyzing their bodies earlier and didn’t detect any life fluctuations,” An Qingyu slowly explained. “Their hearts weren’t beating, their blood wasn’t flowing. From all vital signs, they don’t appear to be alive.”

“You’re saying they’re corpses?”

“That seems to be the case.”

“Then how were they attacking us?” Jiang Er’s eyes were full of confusion. “The way they frantically attacked just now didn’t look like corpses at all.”

Before Lin Qiye or An Qingyu could answer, Jiang Er seemed to realize something. She looked down at her own body floating in the air and smiled wryly: “I guess I’m not qualified to judge them… I almost forgot I’m also a corpse.”

“You’re different from them,” An Qingyu shook his head with a smile.

“Perhaps it’s related to that eye on their foreheads,” Lin Qiye recalled. “Remember, all those demons had their eyes closed, but that eye formed by worms on their foreheads was open.”

“Those eyes controlling their corpses… it’s possible.”

An Qingyu nodded in agreement.

As they spoke, the three had completely left the barren land behind and arrived at the foot of several towering mountain peaks. Several narrow mountain crevices, just wide enough for one or two people to walk side by side, appeared before them.

Lin Qiye looked back and saw countless black shadows flapping their flesh wings, circling under the distant clouds, as if searching for their traces.

“Is this the right direction?” An Qingyu asked, standing before the crevice.

“Yes,” Lin Qiye turned back. “All paths here extend in the same direction. We should be able to take any of them.”

“There aren’t any of those demons inside, are there?”

“Not within my sensing range,” Lin Qiye hesitated for a moment, then added, “But there seem to be quite a few wronged souls who have fallen into hell, wandering inside the valley.”
