Chapter 1019 Schemes
Pamir Plateau.
On the other side.
In the desolate snowy wilderness, two figures walked aimlessly with their heads down.
Si Xiaonan dragged her shoe tip through the snow as she walked, unable to hold back a yawn behind her hand.
“Leng Xuan, we’ve been going at full speed for so long, shouldn’t we sit down and rest?” Si Xiaonan blinked.
“Yeah, I’m a bit tired too,” Leng Xuan replied with an unchanged expression.
“Did you bring any food?”
“…No.”
“Then let’s look around and see if there’s anything to eat.”
Si Xiaonan’s gaze swept the surroundings, landing on a grayish-white felt tent at the foot of a distant mountain. It looked similar to a Mongolian yurt but had more distinct ethnic characteristics.
Outside the tent, several cattle and sheep were tethered, leisurely swaying their heads.
Si Xiaonan and Leng Xuan exchanged glances and nodded in tacit agreement.
The two quickly and silently approached the tent.
Just then, a herder walked out from behind the door of the tent, and was slightly startled seeing the two people who suddenly appeared at his doorstep.
“Who are you? What are you doing here?”
He instinctively stepped back, extending his arms to protect the three children behind him.
The three children were adorable, wearing bright ethnic minority clothing, their pure black eyes curiously examining these two unexpected visitors.
Si Xiaonan frowned.
She touched her nose and said, “Kill them all.”
Leng Xuan’s figure left a blur as he moved at a speed beyond reaction, knocking out everyone in the tent, then kicked over the large pot in the center, spilling all the sheep’s milk inside to simulate the sound of blood splashing.
After several thuds of falling objects, Si Xiaonan finally breathed a sigh of relief.
She helplessly bent down and apologetically bowed to the unconscious herder and three children, then quickly took some baked flatbreads and a jug of liquor from the table, and pulled out a hundred-yuan bill from her pocket, placing it on the table.
After doing all this, Si Xiaonan gave Leng Xuan a look, and they both retreated from the tent simultaneously.
“Don’t leave any traces, let’s burn down the house too,” Si Xiaonan touched her nose again.
“Okay.”
Leng Xuan pretended to move his hand bearing Loki’s Ear closer to the firepit, feigning that the tent had been burned down, then turned to leave.
It wasn’t that they wanted to make things so complicated, but they had no choice.
Loki’s Ear grew on Leng Xuan’s hand, which meant that Loki in Asgard could monitor the situation here at any time. If he felt something was amiss, he could instantly eliminate Si Xiaonan, who was bound by his soul contract.
And facing a suspicious God of Mischief, the two had to approach every matter with utmost caution… For instance, anyone who saw their true appearance could not be left alive.
After obtaining food, the two resumed their journey of slacking off.
Si Xiaonan munched on the flatbread while forcefully rubbing her feet against the ground, making sounds of running hard.
Leng Xuan expressionlessly swung his right hand frantically, letting the whooshing wind blow past Loki’s Ear on his hand’s back. He didn’t care if Loki found these sounds annoying – after all, he put it there himself.
Perhaps disrupting Loki’s good mood wasn’t such a bad thing?
Suddenly, Si Xiaonan seemed to sense something and nudged Leng Xuan with her hand. He immediately understood, stopped swinging his right hand, and swept it across his waistband. The next moment, two ancient-looking flintlocks appeared in his hands.
Si Xiaonan’s gaze swept across the surroundings, finally fixing on a patch of nothingness, her eyes narrowing.
“Hiding in the shadows?”
“Oh? You can detect me?” A black-clothed man’s figure emerged from the void, speaking fluent English with surprise, “As expected of Loki’s proxy… Your vigilance isn’t something a proxy like Gaia’s can compare to.”
Si Xiaonan’s frown deepened.
Having lived in Asgard for so long, she naturally understood English, but this man’s accent seemed somewhat strange.
“No need to be tense. I’m Singh, from India’s Temple of Gods, proxy of the Demon God Asura,” the man extended his hand with a smile, “You’re also sent by Asgard to find Kunlun Mountain and investigate the truth about the Xia God, right?”
“What’s it to you?” Si Xiaonan replied coldly.
“We can work together,” Singh spoke sincerely, “Years ago, when Lord Loki came to the Temple of Gods delivering messages for Asgard, he met the one I represent several times. They’re considered friends, and now that the four divine nations have allied, we’re essentially allies too.
Allies should help each other, shouldn’t they?”
Looking at Singh’s smiling face, Si Xiaonan didn’t feel comfortable at all. Instead, she felt like being targeted by a venomous snake.
Something was off about this man.
Si Xiaonan was about to refuse, but after careful consideration, she fell silent.
It seemed now that not only Asgard but other divine nations had also sent proxies to infiltrate the Pamir Plateau, attempting to enter Kunlun Mountain to investigate the truth about the Xia God. While she and Leng Xuan were slacking off, that only covered Asgard’s eyes – spies from other divine nations would still pose a threat to Xia.
But what if… she secretly sabotaged the other proxies?
Various schemes flashed through Si Xiaonan’s mind.
“Alright then,” Si Xiaonan’s cold demeanor changed as she smiled, “Let’s work together.”
She grasped Singh’s right hand.
A barely noticeable flash of surprise crossed Singh’s eyes as he smiled, “Since we’re allies, shouldn’t we properly introduce ourselves?”
“Loki’s proxy, Si Xiaonan.”
Singh’s gaze turned to Leng Xuan behind her.
“He’s not a proxy, just my servant. He’s mute,” Si Xiaonan said with an unchanged expression.
Leng Xuan lowered his head to look at his feet, remaining silent.
…
The faint light of dawn tore through the darkness, slowly rising from the horizon.
On the snow-covered cliff, Lin Qiye opened his eyes again, looking down at the land below, complex emotions appearing in his eyes.
At the base of the cliff, a one-eyed youth wearing cold weather gear finished a bite of compressed biscuit, calmly looking up at the nearly vertical cliff reaching to the sky before him.
He reached out, about to touch the surface of the cliff, when a voice drifted down from the unseen heights above.
“I advise you to rest before attempting to climb this mountain.”
Hearing Lin Qiye’s voice, Lu Baozhu paused, his eyes narrowing as he shook his head.
“No need.”
