Chapter 1016: Demonic Training Begins
In the desolate snowy wilderness, dark shadows descended upon the ground as new recruits in cold-weather gear quickly organized their equipment and hurriedly set off along the mapped route.
At the foot of a mountain, the siblings Su Yuan and Su Zhe, who had landed nearby, joined up with Ding Chongfeng and Fang Mo.
“This damn place is really cold.”
Su Zhe rubbed his arms while exhaling a breath of hot air, following closely behind Su Yuan and the others.
“This is actually not bad. When we get to higher altitudes, the temperature will drop to unbearable levels,” Ding Chongfeng replied. “Combined with the gradually thinning air and fatigue from the long trek, it will soon push our bodies to the extreme…
We should try to move forward as quickly as possible while our energy levels are still relatively intact. After all, we don’t know the positions of everyone else, and if we unknowingly fall behind the main group, we risk being eliminated.”
“Ding Chongfeng is right,” Fang Mo nodded slightly. “We’ve just landed, and everyone’s morale is at its peak. Everyone will definitely push forward with all their might. If we try to conserve energy now, we might get eliminated in the first stage.”
“Where are Zhenzhen and Lu Baoyou?”
“Zhenzhen landed somewhere else with the main group during the parachute jump, and Lu Baoyou… he definitely rushed ahead alone to the front,” Fang Mo sighed.
“Let’s hurry and set out too. This first section of snowy plain should be the easiest and most relaxed part of the entire journey. We just need to trek across it. Let’s try to cross the snow plain and frozen lake within a day, then we definitely won’t be eliminated.”
Ding Chongfeng took the first step forward.
Fang Mo and Su Yuan followed closely behind.
After just a few steps, Fang Mo seemed to notice something and stopped, turning back to see Su Zhe still standing alone in place, not moving.
“Su Zhe?”
“I’ve thought it through carefully, and I think we shouldn’t go together,” Su Zhe spoke seriously. “I’m very clear about my physical capabilities. Each of you three has the ability to complete the entire journey… but I don’t.
With my terrible physical condition, I can only last a day or two at most, then I’ll be crawling in the snow like a dead dog. If we go together, you’ll definitely slow down to wait for me, and I’ll become a burden dragging you down.”
Fang Mo and the others exchanged glances and shook their heads.
“You’re not a burden,” Fang Mo said calmly. “During the chaos in Beijing, you chose to stay behind to save me. Now, I absolutely won’t abandon you.
Believe it or not, even if the three of us have to take turns carrying you, we’ll get you up Mount Guge.”
Hearing these words, a smile appeared on Su Zhe’s lips, but he still waved his hand,
“I appreciate your kindness, but I, Su Zhe, still have some dignity… You should go.”
Seeing the three still standing there, Su Zhe’s brows furrowed slightly.
He simply sat down on the snowy ground,
“If you won’t go, I’ll just sit here and not move. I’m going to be eliminated anyway, so there’s no difference between being eliminated on the first night or later.”
Seeing Su Zhe’s determined stance, both Fang Mo and Ding Chongfeng’s expressions became troubled.
“Don’t worry about him.”
His sister Su Yuan glanced at him, turned around expressionlessly, and pulled Fang Mo and Ding Chongfeng away, saying coldly, “If he can’t help himself, don’t let him drag others down… Let’s go.”
Fang Mo and Ding Chongfeng were pulled away by Su Yuan, exchanging glances with complex emotions in their eyes.
As the three left, only Su Zhe remained sitting alone in the ice and snow.
After some time, when their figures could no longer be seen, Su Zhe smiled helplessly, shakily stood up from his spot, dusted himself off, and took large strides forward.
…
On the high cliff.
Lin Qiye looked at the endless snowy plains around him, seeming somewhat bored.
The third section of the route he was overseeing was still quite far from where the new recruits had landed. He couldn’t observe the frontline situation either with his eyesight or spiritual power, but since Jiang Er, who was responsible for the first section, hadn’t sent any messages, everything must be proceeding normally.
He slowly closed his eyes and sank his consciousness into the Gods’ Mental Hospital.
The Hospital.
The noon sunlight fell on the spacious and clean hospital. Downstairs, the care workers were busy preparing lunch. The thunder beast Lai Fu lay on the roof of the ward, lazily yawning.
It rested its head on its furry paws, contentedly closing its eyes to begin its wonderful afternoon nap.
Suddenly, a figure flashed behind it.
Lai Fu’s fur bristled all over, and before it could start discharging electricity, a hand had already grabbed its neck, lifting it into the air.
The terrified Lai Fu looked back to see a cold monkey face.
Sun Wukong, wrapped in that tattered kasaya, held Lai Fu’s neck with one hand. This pseudo-divine level Yata Mirror spirit now looked like a helpless kitten, casually held in the air.
“Meow–!!”
Lai Fu struggled violently.
“Don’t shout,” Sun Wukong narrowed his eyes and said calmly.
Lai Fu quickly closed its mouth, looking innocently at Sun Wukong, its face full of terror.
“I’m asking you, you’ve been lying up here for so long, have you seen where Bulaji is hiding?” Sun Wukong asked coldly.
Lai Fu paused, thought for a moment, and quickly shook its head.
Sun Wukong clicked his tongue and casually tossed Lai Fu aside. The agile cat lightly touched down on the ward’s roof and quickly fled the scene, as if escaping from some kind of plague god.
Sun Wukong frowned, his gaze sweeping across the vast hospital as he lowered his head in thought.
A moment later, a figure climbed the stairs and slowly walked to his side.
Gilgamesh, wearing that grey cloth resembling a royal robe, stood on the hospital roof, his contemptuous gaze sweeping over everything below, his expression somewhat displeased.
“He’s not in the kitchen either.”
“The hospital isn’t that big, he can’t have gone far,” Sun Wukong said calmly. “Without him, the battles lack some passion.”
“Agreed.”
Gilgamesh nodded slightly, “Epic battles always need some stirring music to set the atmosphere.”
The two stood quietly at the highest point of the hospital, searching every corner of the hospital bit by bit, like two hungry wolves looking for prey, emanating dangerous and terrifying auras.
