Chapter 1015: Truth and Lies
In the snowstorm, two hooded figures slowly emerged from the misty border.
One of them stood on the pristine white snow, gently removing their hood to reveal the face of a young girl.
She looked around at the snow-covered landscape, let out a long sigh, her eyes filled with complex emotions.
“We’re back again…”
“Mm.” The man beside her nodded calmly.
“It’s been three or four years since we left Cangnan.” The girl slowly closed her eyes and spoke softly, “That time…”
“Xiao Nan.”
The man suddenly spoke, interrupting the girl’s words, extending his left hand to point at his right hand hidden within his wide sleeve.
That hand… no, it could no longer be called a hand.
A black python-like creature, resembling an arm, crawled out from his sleeve, its head splitting into five fingers, and on its back was a small ear.
The man crouched down and quickly drew several Chinese characters with his left hand’s fingers.
—Loki’s Ear, eavesdropping on conversations, be careful with words.
Si Xiaonan saw those words, remained silent for a moment, then continued speaking expressionlessly:
“That time, whenever I think about it, it makes me sick.”
As she spoke, she crouched down and wrote in the snow:
—When did he implant it in you?
—Just before we left… We’ve done too much these past two years, he’s becoming suspicious.
—What a disgusting old fox.
Si Xiaonan remained silent for a moment, then wrote two large characters in the snow.
“True” and “False”
She reached out, deliberately touched her nose, then pointed to the character “False.”
“It doesn’t matter if Cangnan is destroyed,” she said while looking into Leng Xuan’s eyes.
Then, she pointed to the character “True” and continued, “Fortunately, you’re by my side.”
Leng Xuan was stunned briefly but quickly understood Si Xiaonan’s meaning.
To deceive Loki’s Ear on Leng Xuan’s hand, some of their conversations had to be false.
Si Xiaonan had predetermined a gesture to distinguish between true and opposite statements, preventing misunderstandings between them. This gesture was touching the nose.
Words spoken after touching the nose were opposite statements.
Everything else was true.
Like when Si Xiaonan just said “It doesn’t matter if Cangnan is destroyed” after touching her nose, the real meaning was “I hope Cangnan remains safe.”
And when she said “Fortunately, you’re by my side” without touching her nose, that was true.
A faint smile appeared on Leng Xuan’s ice-cold face as he touched his nose,
“I never want to return to Cangnan in this lifetime.”
Si Xiaonan knew Leng Xuan understood her meaning. She stood up and gazed into the distance.
“Lord Loki’s mission is for us to find the legendary Kunlun Mountains and investigate the truth about the Great Xia God…”
“The Pamirs are so vast, where could Kunlun Mountains be hidden?”
“Don’t know, we must search.”
“We can’t slack off on Lord Loki’s mission, we must complete it quickly.” Leng Xuan touched his nose.
“Yes, let’s set off immediately.”
Si Xiaonan also touched her nose.
So, the two began crawling at a snail’s pace across the snow plain…
…
The Pamirs.
On another side.
A roaring military transport plane flew over the snow-capped peaks, its cabin door slowly opening, letting in the howling wind mixed with snow.
The new recruits, wrapped in cold-weather gear and wearing parachutes, looked down at the towering mountains below, took deep breaths, and jumped out one after another.
After all the recruits had descended, Lin Qiye and the others walked to the front of the cabin, comparing the route with the map in their hands.
“Seven Night, the Pamirs are so vast, can we watch over so many people spread out?” Baili Pangpang asked worriedly.
“We can.” Lin Qiye pointed to the route drawn on the map, “Although the Pamirs cover a large area, the route we’ve designed actually only occupies a very small portion, and since this route is so treacherous, very few others pass through it, making it easier for us to manage.
Additionally, I’ve installed tracking devices in each of their cold-weather suits. If anyone deviates from the route, we’ll know immediately.”
“What do we need to do next?” Cao Yuan asked.
“I’ve divided their six-day journey into six zones. To prevent accidents, we six will each oversee one zone.” Lin Qiye drew six connected circles on the route map, perfectly covering the recruits’ training path,
“After we spread out to the six zones, if anything happens in any zone, the person overseeing that zone should immediately report via radio. The two people in the nearest zones will provide support, while the remaining three will maintain order among the recruits and ensure their safety.”
“Do we need to be this cautious?” Cao Yuan asked in surprise, “This is within China’s borders, and it’s so remote, nothing should happen, right?”
“While the possibility of an incident is low, it’s not zero, especially during wartime. We can’t rule out the possibility of enemy infiltration, so it’s better to be careful.”
Lin Qiye said seriously.
“The first section is relatively flat and far from the plateau’s edge, Jiang Er will oversee it. Qingyu will oversee the second section. My spiritual perception range is very wide, so I’ll oversee the central third section to monitor their movements over the largest possible area.
Old Cao, you’ll oversee the fourth section, Pangpang the fifth, and Brother Zhuai the last section.”
After Lin Qiye assigned the individual zones and saw no objections from the others, he nodded and put on his radio headset.
“I have a question.” An Qingyu suddenly raised his hand.
“Hm?”
“When it gets boring overseeing the zone, can I dissect ‘Mysteries’?” An Qingyu seriously pointed to the black box beside him, “I got the corpses of those ‘Klein’ boundary ‘Mysteries’ from Beijing.”
“…As long as you don’t frighten the recruits, it’s fine.”
“No problem.” An Qingyu’s eyes lit up.
“Then let’s go!”
The cabin door opened again, and An Qingyu, carrying Jiang Er and the black box, jumped first. Since Jiang Er was in ghost form and couldn’t move her own coffin, she needed An Qingyu to help set up her coffin before she could move freely.
After flying for a while, Lin Qiye leaped from the plane, notably without a parachute.
In the howling snow and wind, Lin Qiye calmly opened his mouth and recited:
“The great roc rises with the wind in a day, soaring ninety thousand li straight up to the sky.”
A fierce wind swept out from the void, carrying his body and slowly descending onto a towering snow-covered cliff.
