Chapter 255: Metal Storm
Why do all the strong characters seem to be wearing armor made from cold weapons?
The mercenary leader Abik could hardly wrap his head around it; he simply could not explain everything he was seeing.
“Metal Storm! What the heck!”
Lin Mo glanced and immediately felt a chill run down his spine.
This was brutal!
“Gold Coin, full reflective mirror shield, it’s up to you!” At this moment, Lin Mo had no time to be polite; he trembled and knelt on the ground, preparing to resist the impact with all his strength.
“Wow, the delivery is here,” shrieked the gold giant dragon, shaking on Lin Mo’s silver armor. All its essence surged into Lin Mo’s hands, forming a round silver mirror shield in front of him, slightly curved back, covering 120 degrees in front of him.
Just as it formed, an unprecedentedly dense sound of gunfire erupted at the mountain pass.
The deafening roar was overwhelming, so loud that it masked every other sound. Lin Mo felt the shield vibrating violently, a massive force crashing into him like a tidal wave.
A frenzied stream of metal poured forth, shaking even the Gold Coin. Its instinct to consume metal kicked in, absorbing every bullet that hit the shield’s surface as if they submerged in water, disappearing completely. However, the strong and dense impact could not be entirely countered; even after substantial weakening, the energy still transferred to Lin Mo, making it quite heavy.
Not only that, but the ground outside the shield seemed to erupt, countless grains of sand and fragments flying everywhere.
Lin Mo could almost see the bullets bouncing away like raindrops, living up to his earlier gasp, “Metal Storm.” The stream of bullets immediately obscured his view, skimming along the ground and tearing away layers of earth; even the hardest rocks were reduced to dust on the spot.
The diameter of the gigantic shield expanded suddenly as the earth before it was lifted layer by layer. If it didn’t grow larger, ricocheting bullets could easily slip through gaps formed by the upheaval beneath the shield.
The “Metal Storm weapon launching system” was invented by Mike O’Dwyer, the CEO of the Australian company Metal Storm. It completely discarded traditional mechanical components, using barrels loaded with ammunition, electronic pulse ignition nodes, and electronic control processors.
A specific number of projectiles were arranged in the barrels, separated by propellant, with projectiles in front and propellant in back, connected in a sequence. Each stage of propellant had an electronic pulse ignition node, controlled by the electronic processing unit that determined the firing order and ignition interval for each propellant stage.
During firing, the electronic control processor ignited the propellant at the front, then the burning propellant created gas pressure that propelled the projectile out of the barrel at high speed.
As each projectile left the barrel, the next stage of propellant ignited, allowing the chamber pressure to quickly drop to a suitable level, ensuring the next projectile’s successful launch. Thus, each projectile was fired sequentially from the barrel.
This method prevented high-pressure, high-temperature gas from leaking and igniting subsequent propellant, avoiding collapse of the projectile’s cylindrical body.
Using electronic chemical ignition technology, “Metal Storm” could fire 16,000 specialized rounds in a second, whether conventional bullets or mortar shells.
Against “Metal Storm,” even the six-barreled “Gatling gun” or “Phalanx CIWS” would seem insignificant, any type of machine gun would have to retreat; this weapon could obliterate a person in the blink of an eye.
The densely fired projectiles could even crush a tank.
At this moment, Lin Mo was enduring the onslaught of such a weapon, and not just one, but five “Metal Storm” systems fired relentlessly, showing just how much the enemy wanted him dead.
A sudden saturation attack from such a ferocious weapon could, without defense, reduce him to ashes, even with Battle Energy protecting him.
The firing from the five “Metal Storm” systems never stopped until they ran out of ammunition; with the quickly deployed support and their heavy armor, they resisted the recoil well prepared from prior training.
Each “Metal Storm” launching system had a 10×10 array of 9mm caliber barrels, continuously firing a barrage of bullets, achieving zero gaps in their coverage. The dust and smoke enveloped Lin Mo’s position, obscuring him completely.
The ferocious firepower lasted less than two seconds, with each “Metal Storm” firing nearly 1,800 rounds, equating to over ten kilograms of projectiles released in an instant.
In the short amount of time he was fired upon, Lin Mo suffered through a saturation of almost 9,000 bullets.
Not only the enemies but also the remaining allies believed Lin Mo must have perished in such a terrifying “barrage wall;” even the toughest tank would be torn to pieces.
Just one wave of shots could leave a person untraceable; what of such intense firepower? They couldn’t even see Lin Mo escape.
Survivors felt a chill down their spines, for this weapon was beyond terrifying. Nothing compared to it—not shells, grenades, machine guns, nor even the earlier laser beams. It was ferocious to the extreme, unprecedented.
“Mr. Knight, oh my, what kind of weapon is this!” The mercenary leader Abik clicked his PKM machine gun with his fingers, witnessing Lin Mo’s figure swallowed by that fierce crimson flame.
Despair filled Abik’s heart; this was no ordinary coalition force but a secret squad aimed directly at the “Knight.” What kind of terrible power had this “Knight” attracted? They used such fearsome weapons just to deal with him.
Even during America’s attack on Afghanistan, he had never seen such a super weapon—it shouldn’t exist in war at all.
…
“Haha, the ‘Silver Devil’ is dead, haha, finally dead, good, very good.”
Muza tayev, with his legs severed by a green beam, struggled in the dirt, producing a terrifying laugh. He had already completely failed tonight; returning home would lead to certain death as well. Dying here while losing blood was already the best outcome.
The culprit for the destruction of most of his remaining men would accompany him to the grave. Muza tayev no longer hoped to survive; his injuries had extinguished any chance of living.
Wherever the violent metallic bullet streams of the “Metal Storm” swept through, bullet holes were evident, and the deeper the distance, the clearer the evidence of the fierce assault spread even to the mountainside—numerous scars, visible under the moonlight and the armored vehicle’s searchlight.
The smoke began to gradually disperse.
The debris kicked up by the bullets made soft, rustling sounds as they fell back down. In the center of the smoke, the air seemed to stir eerily, as if some terrifying monster was about to burst forth.
A pair of large, shimmering silver wings suddenly extended from the smoke. When the heavy-armored warriors carrying the “Metal Storm” still hadn’t reacted, snap! A nearly blinding light, almost as bright as the sun, erupted in the smoke and swiftly enveloped the entire battlefield in white.
The sudden brilliance in the night caused everyone to lose their sight.
“Damn Metal Storm, today you will see what a real Metal Storm looks like.”
A tremendous explosion and shock shook the ground, even the noise of the “Metal Storm launcher” firing paled in comparison.
The earth roared fiercely, quaking violently like a sudden small earthquake had erupted.
It felt as if an extremely powerful stun grenade had exploded; the immense noise and light overwhelmed many people’s consciousness.
“Azrael!”
Before losing consciousness, the mercenary leader Abik caught a glimpse of the silver wings breaking apart into countless feathers, all rushing in one direction before he knew nothing more.
On the other side of the world, in Bethesda, Montgomery County, Maryland, America, it was a beautiful sunny day with gentle breezes, overlooking a bustling urban area from a tall building.
Inside a conference room on one of the floors, a dozen well-dressed, elegant white and black individuals quietly surrounded an oval conference table, along with a few dressed in camouflaged military uniforms sitting in the middle.
At the head of the table, a large stainless steel frame suspended four large flat-screen displays, showing a map, profiles of different codenames, and signal feedback indicating the status of certain devices.
Below the large flat frame, a set of speakers continually transmitted voices.
One screen displayed infrared and night vision images, though they appeared quite blurry. Transmitting video signals compressed from the mountains was no easy feat.
“Target located, beginning lock-on, preparing to execute Plan A. Laser cannons 1 and 2 have completed lock-on! Powering up.”
“Beep! Beep! Charging complete, approaching target.”
“Distance, 233 meters, air pollution index 145, firing 1!”
“1 missed, preparing 2. Power output at 120%, 110-degree arc, continuous pulse cutting attack, preparing Plan B.”
