Chapter 24: The Amazing Physical Abilities
“Yī ǒu yī! (One, two, one), run harder! Keep pushing your limits! You can do it; your potential hasn’t been unleashed yet! If you don’t pick up the pace, I’ll bring my dog tomorrow to cheer you on!” The coach of Class B shouted with a unique style, clearly not using standard military training methods.
Hearing that there would be a dog involved made everyone wonder if they’d be chased by one. Was it a dachshund or a chihuahua? With the likelihood being high for small dogs, the students on the track sped up, driven by anxiety.
“I can’t run anymore! When will we get to stop? Lin Mo, is that black coal head trying to get to us on purpose? I swear it’s pure jealousy from the army toward the air force!” Lei Dong, also from Class B, trailed beside Lin Mo, his face pale and panting heavily; yet, he still had the energy to complain: “We’re supposed to fly in the sky, not run on the ground like the army. Do they think we need our legs to run in the sky? All we do is shout slogans or run like this every day! Is the training really that intense? It’s like we’re special forces! What are they thinking, picking airborne soldiers from us?”
The “black coal head” was the nickname the Class B students had given their coach. He was dark and skinny, with only his eyes and teeth showing white. Since this was military training before their theoretical classes began, the school let these new students be completely at the mercy of the two young lieutenants from the army.
While others gasped for breath, Lin Mo maintained a calm demeanor, showing no signs of sweating and even seemed distracted, casually replying to Lei Dong: “Is this supposed to be physical training? I don’t feel much of anything! Airborne soldiers are pretty cool too!”
“What the heck! You’re a freak!” Lei Dong rolled his eyes, unable to respond.
Lin Mo’s relaxed attitude completely defeated him. After running nearly three kilometers over several laps, it was clear that Lin Mo’s physical abilities were almost superhuman.
Anyone with common sense could guess that Lin Mo had something to do with what happened at the Korean restaurant, where he had taken down dozens of thugs. It was truly extraordinary!
“I heard there are worse things coming up, like riding wooden donkeys or sitting in electric chairs! That sounds terrifying!” A shorter student whispered nearby, and the fear these words struck made Class B students nearly buckle at the knees in shock. This wasn’t air force training; it felt more like intense torture!
“Rumors are just that; it’s just for training on stationary bikes and other physical fitness machines,” another student refuted firmly. Their expressions relaxed slightly. “But be prepared—things are going to get tough in the coming days!” This made everyone’s faces pale again; half were exhausted from running, while the other half were scared out of their wits.
“What are you doing? You still have energy to talk? Not bad! Now add two more laps!” The black coal head, the coach, waved his belt and shouted fiercely at the cluster of students, scaring them into sprinting even harder.
On the other side of the field, Class A was doing dizzy training. While they didn’t have to run themselves to exhaustion like Class B, they were spinning until the world was a blur and feeling nauseous just the same.
Chen Haiqing, assigned to Class A, occasionally glanced over at Lin Mo, who was leading Class B. He thought to himself that Lin Mo, as expected, possessed incredible abilities; his physical fitness was astounding, and even doubling the workout wouldn’t tire him out.
Chen Haiqing had long suspected Lin Mo had something to do with taking down those thugs yesterday. However, since Lin Mo seemed unwilling to explain, Chen Haiqing didn’t press the issue either; he just paid more attention to him during training.
After running twenty laps, totaling eight kilometers, the students of Class B lost the energy to complain. Completely worn out, they collapsed to the ground like dead dogs. Typically, they could handle three to five kilometers fine, especially those who had passed the initial tests to become pilots. But being forced to run this far by their coach was simply unbearable.
As soon as they fell, the medical staff on standby rushed over to check everyone’s blood pressure and heart rate, collecting fitness data.
The medics had the easy job, leisurely snacking while watching the drama unfold. Many students quietly lamented that the glamorous air force path to the sky was actually anything but easy.
“Hey, Zhao, check out this student’s file!” One medic, a sergeant wearing his insignia, approached a middle-aged officer in a white lab coat who was measuring a student’s heart rate.
“What’s up?” The officer glanced at the sergeant’s finger, following it to a freshly collected fitness data sheet. After just a quick look, his eyes widened in surprise. “Did this guy just bail out? He looks like he didn’t even run!”
“No, we were watching the whole time; Lieutenant Luo in Class B wouldn’t let anyone slack off. This data is unreal!” The sergeant clicked his tongue. “Besides, I remember that everyone who was supposed to run was there. He was definitely present.”
“Li, are you sure this is the actual measurement? You didn’t make a mistake, did you?” The middle-aged officer didn’t raise his voice; suspicion marked his features.
“Come on, Zhao! I personally measured this multiple times; it’s absolutely real! I wouldn’t fabricate something like this!” The sergeant insisted, nodding vigorously.
“Wow, this is something special! I can’t believe we have a hidden gem among these students. Keep this fitness report separate; we can’t let the army see it. This guy is a born soldier!” The middle-aged officer shook his head slightly, marveling at the data. If it weren’t for the blood test required in the initial air force recruitment exam, he would have thought the report belonged to an alien.
With China’s vast population, it wasn’t impossible to have individuals with exceptional physical traits, but they were extremely rare. This fitness report held substantial scientific research value. Studying the blood and genes could be quite straightforward—just a few drops of blood and a strand of hair would suffice, unlike the novels where dissection was often portrayed as necessary.
“Yes, seal this report as a Level Two Confidential document and notify the higher-ups,” the sergeant saluted the officer, knowing the proper procedures for such special circumstances. It was better to keep things low-key.
Upon arriving in this world, not only did his soul synchronize, but his body did as well. The original physique of the Dragon Knight perfectly merged with the body in this world. To ordinary people, it required a tremendous drain on their physical abilities, but Lin Mo felt nothing.
His understanding of the scientific framework in this world wasn’t complete, and he never considered that his intentionally concealed strength would remain hidden from scientific instruments. After all, he was just a Dragon Knight skilled in combat, not a medical professional with an extensive knowledge of human physiology.
After a month of military physical training and a rich specialized nutrition program, the aviation university thoroughly grasped detailed physical condition data for all its trainees, resulting in significant improvements in their physical capabilities.
By the second month, the students began to learn about aviation law, meteorology, navigation, radio equipment, flight theory, and other theoretical courses.
However, they still hadn’t even glimpsed the planes; they hadn’t seen so much as a distant shadow of one. Every student aspiring to be a pilot had sought information beforehand, reading through books and aircraft catalogs. Their ability to talk a big game had greatly improved, but the tension in their hearts only grew: they yearned to at least fly a training aircraft soon.
Occasionally, Lin Mo heard other students discussing what aircraft they might fly, but he wasn’t anxious. Soaring into the sky wouldn’t come so easily. Despite the significant cultural differences, both worlds treated aerial armed forces with great caution.
After obtaining Lin Mo’s fitness data, the aviation university remained silent. It wasn’t until three months of theoretical study had passed that a major wearing a light blue air force uniform came with an order to the university, interrupting all students’ studies.
The forty-seven students were urgently assembled in a small auditorium, standing in neat rows with a serious demeanor.
No one knew why the administration had suddenly called them in from class. As they saw the air force officer in a crisp uniform, nervous glances exchanged among students hinted at their collective speculation, sparking a wave of excitement within them.
Unlike previous classes, this batch had a rich second-generation student, Chen Haiqing, who had adeptly pulled everyone into a tight-knit group. Students with good social skills emerged to gather intel and build relationships with the school’s leadership to supply the collective with useful information.
However, no one knew when they might get hands-on experience with aircraft, or what kind of planes they would be flying. The school always kept such details tightly under wraps. They were still in basic training, and their futures with helicopters, transport planes, or fighter jets remained uncertain.
After all, pilots weren’t allowed to operate multiple types of aircraft. They would be fixed to a certain model to avoid operational mistakes. Flying was serious business; even small errors could lead to disastrous outcomes.
“Students, Major Yang has come to our school to select a group of exceptionally talented students for specialized training. Now, let’s have Major Yang announce the names of those chosen!” The director, who was familiar to the students with his Mediterranean balding and black-rimmed glasses, spoke, causing a stir among the students.
