Chapter 229: The Rebellion and Frustration of the "Gold Coin"
"What just happened?!" Once Lin Mo’s parachute touched the ground, he ripped the gold giant dragon from his wrist. He only remembered that before the ejection, sparks suddenly erupted from the control panel, the LCD screen went completely black, and all the signal lights went out at once.
"It seems to be an electromagnetic pulse bomb! You really had a terrible day today."
His watch began to twist and expand, and the voice of the Gold Coin echoed.
"An electromagnetic pulse bomb?" Lin Mo suddenly recalled the liquid hydrogen cloud. How could these East Turkestan militants manage to deploy an electromagnetic pulse bomb amidst the devastating explosion of a cloud explosive bomb?
Were these really East Turkestan militants? Their equipment was far too advanced, almost rivaling the special forces of various countries.
Lin Mo still couldn’t wrap his head around it and questioned, “Why didn’t I see it? Did someone launch an electromagnetic pulse bomb nearby?”
“It was one of the SAM-2 missiles chasing you. It was a miniature electromagnetic pulse bomb with an effect radius of about 100 kilometers.”
The Gold Coin, who had been hiding within the J-10, was far more adept at this than Lin Mo. Its nearly panoramic view and sensitivity to magnetic fields highlighted that the incoming fireball wasn’t a threat; instead, a missile aimed at the fighter jet had detonated unusually.
It wasn’t a fireball but rather a ball of blue electricity, like a blown-up balloon—expanding, exploding, and dissipating into the cosmos. The invisible electromagnetic waves fried most of the aircraft’s electronic systems.
Even though the J-10 belonged to the more advanced aircraft in the world, it still couldn’t fully defend against this high-tech electromagnetic weapon.
“I knew those missiles were trouble! They managed to chase me for so long,” Lin Mo said, angrily pulling apart his parachute on the rocky hillside. This was his own vehicle, not someone else’s, and it pained him deeply.
Having been grounded made Lin Mo’s eyes turn red with fury, wishing he could unleash a massacre to vent his frustrations.
Boom!
A thunderous explosion echoed from the distance, likely from the direction of the ancient castle. The munitions depot had probably exploded, and given that this was the East Turkestan militants’ stronghold, a massive detonation was to be expected.
Lin Mo attempted to activate the emergency devices, but both the radio and GPS were completely useless. It seemed the Gold Coin was right; it really was an electromagnetic pulse bomb. All electronic devices had been destroyed, and many fragile low-voltage electronic components and circuits had been burned out.
In the shadow of the hillside, the Gold Coin quickly transformed into its true form, becoming a fearsome giant dragon covered in dark golden scales. It gracefully waved its wings and opened the Void Magnetism, slowly landing on the ground.
This creature had certainly learned a lot about this world, knowing that under this shaded hillside, even optical satellites would find it hard to detect anything. The low light reflection in the shadows meant that the gold giant dragon could safely transform back.
As for everything else, it believed that after the electromagnetic pulse bomb had swept through, no electronic reconnaissance equipment would catch it.
"Hey, hey! Are you done for? Shot down again? How many times is this? The esteemed Air Knight!" The gold giant dragon, finally able to return to its physical form, swirled playfully in the shadows, whipping up gusts of wind. It mocked Lin Mo with glee, “I admit that the air combat weapons in this world are powerful, but they are really too fragile. Even the slightest damage renders them unable to keep flying. I truly don’t understand why the aerial knights in this world take such huge risks. Controlling such powerful yet fragile weapons is far below my standard. If it weren’t for those annoying missiles and a few strange weapons, I could swat them out of the sky like flies, crush them into my favorite little snack shapes.”
The lazy gold giant dragon took this opportunity to ridicule the fallen Dragon Knight, bursting into laughter at Lin Mo’s fighter jet being shot down. For it, this was quite amusing, seeing someone so skilled with calculations finally have a mishap. Without its fighter jet, the proud creature was left wondering what else remained.
Did it really think it could charge into battle like those foolish infantry swinging their big swords?
Did it truly believe it was some sort of immortal that could never be shot down?
The truth had shown that it wasn’t perfect, and the next time would surely be a challenge.
This terrifying electromagnetic weapon could even severely disrupt the gold giant dragon’s Void Magnetism abilities. Although it lacked any physical damaging force, it would strip the dragon of its anti-gravity flight, similar to a massive iron block plummeting from the sky and crashing into the earth—utterly tragic.
Such weapons had become one of the gold giant dragon’s greatest fears. Humans in this world truly knew how to create unimaginable and terrifying devices.
“Lin Mo, I think you should stop trying to be an aerial knight. It doesn’t suit you at all. Just focus on being that aircraft designer instead. I hope you can live a little longer, watching those fools turn into roast chickens in the sky. The sky doesn’t belong to humans. What are you still shouting about the Dragon Knight Corps for, you fool? You finally lost your new ride, haven’t you? Given up? This dragon is free now, haha!”
The mischievous giant dragon seized the chance to kick Lin Mo while he was down, thinking it would have a brighter future as an aircraft designer than as a pilot. It knew that working alongside an aircraft designer would give it more chances to snatch snacks from failed projects, almost all of which were the dragon’s favorite food.
The goal was to provoke Lin Mo into shame and rage, leading him to abandon his Dragon Knight profession entirely. That way, the gold giant dragon would no longer be cooped up in that heavily guarded military base, where it could only nibble on alloy snacks purchased from the internet. Though it couldn’t gorge itself, going unsatisfied always left the dragon in a sour mood.
This lazy, food-loving dragon had outgrown mere delicate alloy tidbits.
Anger bubbling inside him, Lin Mo felt a sharp sting when the Gold Coin pointed out his weakness. His face flushed red with rage as he couldn’t help but explode in anger, shouting at the gluttonous giant dragon that only lazed around, “Shut up! You fool! Are you so well-fed that you have nothing better to do? Why don’t you transform into a fighter jet? That way, no one can shoot me down, and I won’t have to exhaust myself all day trying to build that ‘monstrous’ fighter jet. If you agree, you’ll be the best fighter jet!”
Finally having reclaimed his status as an Air Knight, being shot down was a deeply frustrating event, further compounded by the Gold Coin’s mocking laughter lingering in front of him. Lin Mo’s mood darkened even further.
“What did you say?” The sharpness of Lin Mo’s words struck a sensitive chord within the Gold Coin. It leaped up, rushing right in front of Lin Mo, its massive dragon head nearly touching his nose.
“Absolutely not! Never! Don’t even think about making me your mount again; it’s impossible! I am a free dragon! No one can control me!” the gold giant dragon roared, clearly still burdened by the memory of being forced to become Lin Mo’s mount.
Though it had happened long ago and was a tale from another world, it no longer needed to carry Lin Mo to fight in the skies. Even recalling it made the dragon feel resentful. A proud gold giant dragon could never be a mount for anyone—no way!
If it weren’t for Lin Mo being its long-term source of food, the gold giant dragon might have smashed him to pieces back in the previous world, where it was unbound by the dragon flute.
Now, all it could do was vent its anger on the scattered rocks nearby.
Boom! The sound of a massive landslide echoed, sharp claws easily shattering the hard stones, revealing the bloodthirsty giant dragon beneath its deceptively calm exterior. The hilly rock terrain was rapidly reduced to powder by this mighty beast, living up to its reputation as a slayer dragon.
Perhaps this hillside will someday be able to be cultivated. This creature didn’t hold back at all.
After venting its frustration, the gold giant dragon returned to Lin Mo, breathing heavily. It slammed its dragon tail on the ground like a magnificent lance, sending tremors through the hillside. This giant had the ability to weigh itself down by over ten times when reversing its Void Magnetism, rivaling a super heavy tank.
The Gold Coin’s enormous eyes glinted with a blood-red ferocity as if it would devour anyone in its sight. It fixed its gaze on Lin Mo and warned, “Don’t forget our agreement; you provide food, I provide protection. Fair exchange. Nothing more.”
Strength defines status. If this world weren’t dominated by human civilization, the Gold Coin wouldn’t bother treating Lin Mo with equality; just not treating him like a slave was already generous.
Accepting being a tool was acceptable; playing the part of a vehicle to flirt now and then was fine, but being a mount in battle was out of the question—because that was a matter of honor.
This was the gold giant dragon’s underlying limit: having been bound by the Dragon God contract was already infuriating. Thankfully, this world still lacked a Dragon God, so it couldn’t impede its disregard for the contract.
As for jointly researching the technological civilization of this world—an interest that both dragon and man shared—the gold giant dragon subconsciously chose to ignore it. One was a material need; the other was a spiritual need; dragons weren’t just mindless feeders.
“Hmph! You first take care of yourself! Be careful not to expose us and drag me down,” Lin Mo replied bravely, meeting the dragon’s gaze without flinching at all.
