Chapter 205: I, Hu Han San, Have Returned!
The pilots of Azrael Squadron found their tasks a bit easier. Apart from packing their bags, they also had to write combat summary reports, detailing the tactics used in each battle, enemy analyses, responses, and their mental states at the time. Even Old Russian "Caviar" was no exception; a translator would handle the Russian operational documents.
Every pilot had at least a college degree and was quite familiar with writing reports. Lin Mo, the Dragon Knight, produced something rather astonishing, filled with maneuvers that exceeded human limits, even including techniques for firing cannons at missiles. These reports could only serve as references or be considered military combat records. They could be sent back home for domestic pilots to study, but as many high-G combinations were included, no pilot could survive exiting the cockpit without injuries. Even in pressure suits, enduring over 9G could only be measured in seconds.
Among the pilots, the ones in “Kangaroo” Squadron, Earth and Gatekeeper, had it the easiest. They hadn’t been shot down often and had fewer missions. Their assignments were much lighter, especially compared to the armed helicopter mountain operations they participated in.
While the pilots focused on their combat reports, the staff at the Persian Cat command center were extremely busy organizing various combat data. Although they were military volunteers participating in the conflict, the precious military data they brought back was invaluable for the Chinese military, significantly enhancing the command and combat capabilities of officers and soldiers.
On the other hand, domestic equipment manufacturers were eager to put this data to good use, as practical verification would greatly accelerate advancements in various military technologies.
Just as they had come, the Chinese military volunteers quietly rode a convoy of more than a dozen buses across the Karakoram Mountains, heading straight for Lhasa. Other equipment and personnel would be evacuated in batches over the next month.
Old Russian “Caviar” took the gold bars given to him by Pakistan and boarded a plane to Syria for new opportunities. Not only that, he negotiated a weapons contract with the Pakistani military. During the conflict, he analyzed and devised a comprehensive package to enhance the capabilities of the Pakistani military’s fighter jets, and Pakistan would likely be eager to accept this deal.
Caviar’s dedication impressed many. If the salespeople from domestic companies could show such commitment, they wouldn’t have to worry about securing contracts.
The situation between India and Pakistan entered a stable period again, following Pakistan’s long-range airstrikes on Bangalore. While future skirmishes might still occur, it had already been demonstrated that Pakistan could strike any target inside India with its fighter jet squadron. This combat experience was invaluable and impossible to buy at any cost. It showed the Indians the determination of the Chinese military; they didn’t need strategic weapons or a full-scale deployment—just the cooperation of Pakistan could leave them licking their wounds.
Upon returning to the Night base, Lin Mo was personally welcomed back by Old Pan, the aircrew group leader, piloting the Mi-17 transport helicopter.
The blades’ airflow swept away the dust from his body as he carried his bag, the cabin filled with specialties and trophies. Lin Mo noticed many figures waiting on the tarmac, which included not just the entire aircrew group.
With a record of shooting down seventeen enemy aircraft and being nicknamed the Cannon King, Lin Mo received a grand welcome from the high-ranking leaders at the base.
“Welcome back, Dragon Knight Corps!” Colonel Xie from the Intelligence Group was the first to greet him, solidifying the so-called "Dragon Knight Corps" with a sense of legitimacy that left others guessing.
Dragon Knight Corps?! Lin Mo looked around, peering this way and that, but saw no sign of Fire Dragon, Wind Dragon, or Shadow Dragon. Where was this Dragon Knight Corps? It suddenly dawned on him that this was the slogan mistakenly mentioned during the battles—how did Colonel Xie know?
“Ha ha, stop looking, you are the only one in the Dragon Knight Corps! You’ve made such a name for yourself! Come, let’s get started on the first order of business. Colonel Ji, come over and crown our hero!” Seeing Lin Mo’s puzzled expression, Colonel Xie laughed even louder, as if trying to drown out the noise of the helicopter’s rotor blades and engine.
As soon as Lin Mo set foot on the tarmac, a promotion notification was handed to him immediately. Although he was a military volunteer, his achievements could still be recorded in the active-duty files.
Seventeen victories made any pilot an air combat hero. In tumultuous times, heroes emerge; only through the rigors of battle can an ace truly shine.
Captain Lin—oh no, he was now Captain Lin—and with just a bit more effort, he might achieve the rank of a real colonel. If he accumulated more achievements, a higher rank would be imminent. It was exceedingly difficult to be promoted in peacetime. Given Lin Mo’s age, climbing one rank a year over two years would be equivalent to taking the elevator; it was hard to imagine how old he would be when he finally earned the little gold insignia.
“Thank you for the opportunities, leaders!” Lin Mo genuinely expressed his gratitude. He had returned with a bounty of trophies, bonuses, and achievements, making this trip overwhelmingly fruitful.
“Alright, alright, save your flattery for when you meet the higher-ups.” Colonel Xie waved his hand and addressed the nearby guards, “Come on, let’s unload Captain Lin’s cargo; we have a celebration banquet to attend!”
A group of big, strong soldiers unloaded items filling the helicopter’s cabin. This was just for Lin Mo, astonishing everyone; such a massive load nearly filled two battery transport trucks.
When he left, he had only carried a small backpack; how did he bring back so much? With bundles the size of a small mountain, it seemed as though Lin Mo had not gone to assist Pakistan but had instead been aided by them.
“Lin Mo, you didn’t go out and rob anyone, did you?!” Colonel Xie, who was responsible for receiving him, blinked his eyes and patted Lin Mo’s shoulder.
“Pretty much! I brought back quite a few good things, along with gifts for my brothers, everyone gets a share. Be careful; there are arms in there, but they are my collectibles.” Lin Mo smiled and pulled out a stack of A4 papers from his backpack, handing them to Colonel Xie, “Here’s the complete list of everything I brought back. According to regulations, everything must be checked when entering the base. Since it was hard to return from such a long trip empty-handed, I can’t face my hometown folks that way.”
Everyone laughed. This guy really knew how to play his cards right. With so much stuff, it must have cost a fortune. No one knew how many benefits he had gathered while out there.
And it wasn’t without merit; the authentic Persian carpets crafted by Pakistan were dozens in number, each mid-level officer received one, and even ordinary soldiers got small souvenirs from Pakistan. How else could an entire Mi-17 transport helicopter be filled to its four-ton load capacity?
The Azrael Squadron’s deadly strike on Bangalore was extraordinarily impactful; the Pakistani government willingly picked up the tab for Lin Mo.
The aircrew group leader’s foresight in personally piloting the aircraft to pick him up was truly commendable.
Every returning military volunteer received a welcome and banquet organized by headquarters.
“Let’s welcome our air combat super ace, Captain Lin, back! Cheers!”
Squadron leaders from several combat teams, Old Pan from the aircrew, Colonel Ji from the Staff Group, Colonel Xie from the Intelligence Group, and newly arrived Political Officer Ma held a celebration in a private room in the restaurant with three tables set up.
Captain Feng had yet to return to the base; he was still busy reporting to higher-ups with key members from the Persian Cat command center and was expected back in a few days.
At Lin Mo’s welcome banquet, everyone raised tea in place of wine, but the atmosphere remained lively.
As the situation regarding Pakistan’s military assistance continued, even up to the evacuation of Chinese military volunteers, it was no longer as highly classified as it was at the start of the war. Not only the Indians but even Americans had caught wind of it.
So many personnel in the base had heard rumors, especially those present in the room who had a certain level of security clearance.
“Little Lin, is Kua Fu still useful?” Old Pan, sitting next to Lin Mo, examined him to see if there were any signs of injury.
“Extremely useful!” Lin Mo expressed his satisfaction with Kua Fu’s personal armor; it was lightweight and bulletproof. Ordinary rifle bullets hardly penetrated, and it had various digital modules. In both individual and squad operations, Kua Fu’s armor was even better than Lin Mo’s previous mystic steel armor.
“That’s great news!” Old Pan smiled, patting Lin Mo’s shoulder and saying, “This is just the prototype; you should provide your user feedback and requirements so that the developers can customize it to your needs. After all, you took the land combat armor, and the data you provide will help them develop the aviation-style armor. That’s valuable real-world combat experience.”
Customizable? Lin Mo opened his eyes wide, feeling delighted. “That sounds fantastic! I will definitely write my comments and have the leaders pass them along.”
If he could snag a free set of personal armor, that would be a remarkable score! After all, he had managed to bring back a complete set of America’s Future Warrior gear last time; that should help the armor research institute unlock more cutting-edge technologies.
Lin Mo felt a surge of excitement.
After the banquet, Xie Fengdao pulled Lin Mo aside to a corner. Seeing that there were no other people around, his expression turned serious as he said, “Captain Lin, you seem to have stirred up quite a bit of trouble in Pakistan.”
