Chapter 160: Did They Order Two "Coffins"?
“Two, follow closely at an altitude of 1,500 meters, with a distance of 500 meters. Perform a synchronized 120-degree sharp turn; I’m going after that armed helicopter.”
Lin Mo’s knightly spirit only extended to the battlefield. In combat, he disregarded any one-on-one rules, knowing that chaotic punches often take down the master—strike first to seize the initiative.
He saw that the WZ-12 on his side was engaged in an aerial duel with the enemy’s armed helicopter. The sky was filled with dark red projectiles crisscrossing as both helicopters utilized their hovering maneuverability to constantly shift their attack positions. The fight was fierce, with sparks flying from the cockpit and armor as they also had to be wary of ground weapons. However, the small-caliber light weapons from the ground couldn’t penetrate the armor of the two armed helicopters; they only provided minimal interference in the aerial duel.
After just finishing a mission to destroy armored vehicles, the two J-10s pulled up and executed a quick turning maneuver.
The WZ-12 and the enemy armed helicopter had no idea that the two J-10s were rushing directly toward them with great momentum.
Lin Mo aimed at the enemy, locking onto it with the helmet-mounted sight while synchronizing the cannon’s target point. Flames shot out from beneath the aircraft, almost simultaneously as the cannon of the second aircraft, piloted by Azure Wolf, sent a series of bright projectiles toward the target ahead.
Azure Wolf’s cannon shooting skills were excellent, indicating he had likely completed real combat missions as well. Their firepower intermingled like two tongues of fire intertwining in the air.
The standard 23mm composite ammunition was loaded: one tracer round, one armor-piercing round, followed by two explosive incendiary rounds.
Tracer! Armor-piercing! Explosive incendiary!
The unsuspecting enemy armed helicopter barely had time to react before the 23mm cannon shredded it to pieces in midair. The armor that could withstand small-caliber rifle rounds was as vulnerable as cardboard against the 23mm steel slugs. The helicopter burst and disintegrated, eventually consumed by a massive explosion.
Even the pilots inside had no time to escape, turning into a fireball as they plummeted from the sky.
“J-10! J-10! We need aerial bombs!”
Having just eliminated the last enemy armed helicopter, the Chinese military’s WZ-12 thanked Lin Mo and his team with a wag of its tail!
Lin Mo and Azure Wolf heard calls from the ground. This time, air support was on fire; the Chinese forces had complete air superiority, and the few Stinger missiles posed virtually no threat.
“Aircraft One, ‘Gold Coin’ acknowledged!”
“Aircraft Two, ‘Azure Wolf’ acknowledged!”
Lin Mo and Azure Wolf replied in unison.
“The enemy leader has retreated behind a few heavy trucks surrounded by defenses. We need to take them out decisively.”
“Understood!” Lin Mo counted his ammunition; the cannon had around half left, with nearly half of the rocket ammunition and one LT-2 Thunder 500-kilogram laser-guided bomb.
This bomb was powerful; it was just what he needed.
Lin Mo pressed the LT-2 on the LCD touchscreen, activating it. He didn’t expect to bring it back anyway; at least it would help reduce their stockpile.
“LT-2 prepared! Two, stand by!”
Lin Mo directed carefully, informing his wingman of every movement. So far, the two J-10s had coordinated well. During their training phase, formation flying was a required course, and to have dedicated fighter jets, they needed to learn how to team up with various aircraft types.
Confirming the ground coordinates, Lin Mo noticed several armor-covered trucks forming a larger circular defensive shape. Inside, many rebel soldiers used the trucks to stubbornly resist.
Occasionally, a grenade would strike one of the large trucks, shaking it violently. However, the trucks were filled with mud and debris, making it impossible to open up a way to unleash firepower inside.
Due to the blockage, the external laser-guided system couldn’t project the laser beam inside, but Azure Wolf made up for this. Lin Mo launched the LT-2 Thunder laser-guided bomb successfully.
A dark point adjusted its position rapidly in the air, correcting for small errors, and directly hit the center of the truck defensive circle. The explosion from the 500-kilogram deadly explosive upended nearby trucks, instantly shrouding the area in smoke, where not a single bullet could be seen firing outward.
The LT-2 Thunder laser-guided bomb ensured silence within a 200-meter kill radius, and amid the dissipating smoke, a terrifying large crater appeared on the ground.
The world finally fell silent. The explosion of the powerful bomb rivaled a small earthquake. If someone lay on the ground within a 500-meter radius, pressed down with their abdomen against the earth, they could be sure of serious internal injuries.
Lin Mo’s throw instantly reduced the sounds of gunfire and explosions in the battlefield by half. Then, the second aircraft dropped its second bomb, creating another huge crater that flipped over a group of rebels.
There was no choice; they had to lighten their load!
Carrying a 500-kilogram bomb back home made him uneasy. By dropping it early, they could save fuel and even increase their flight speed.
“Aircraft One, enemy ‘Stinger’ located at two o’clock below!”
“Copy that! WZ-1, calling all WZ units, drop infrared flares! It’s up to you!”
“WZ-1 acknowledged! Launching four infrared flares. Ground team has 16 snipers; take out the launchers.”
“Calling J-10 formation, we are ground team Four. There’s a heavy machine gun position on Hill 55! We are under suppression; help us eliminate it!”
“J-10 formation acknowledged! We have spotted your position.”
“Two! Let’s attack together!”
“Two copy! Two rockets launched! Targeting the site, five seconds to prepare!”
“Fire!” “Fire!”
The two fighter jets aimed at the ground, relentlessly launching rockets and cannon fire, pouring down firepower, together with the last remaining WZ-12, to clear out threatening fire points for the ground forces and thoroughly tilled the battlefield.
Lin Mo and Azure Wolf completely shattered the morale of the rebels, bringing the entire battle to a close. In overseas combat, the People’s Liberation Army needed no captives; they didn’t even bother to shout “treat prisoners well” or “spare those who surrender.” The battle ended simply and decisively.
The battlefield was less than 10 kilometers from China’s border; with a bit of throttle, it was just a few minutes away.
Three special forces teams, under the protection of two armed helicopters and two J-10s, worked together to wipe out this armed group of over 300 men.
After the fight, only thirty-four rebels remained. In contrast, the Special Operations Team, with strong fire support, suffered minimal casualties. They didn’t need to make a strong push; by spending a lot of ammunition for fire interception, similar to methods used by the U.S. military, they protected themselves while eliminating the enemy.
The remaining tasks were handed off to the ground troops; once the J-10 formation completed their mission, they left without fuss. Lin Mo made contact with the ground to confirm the mission’s success before turning the second aircraft back toward China.
After all, this kind of small-scale battle was just a temporary reference. If there were more enemies, the neighboring country would send its own fighter jets to assist in combat. For now, it all became sharpening stones for the Chinese military, as the fighter jets’ attack served as the concluding act.
Even if the enemy rebels broke through the ambush circle, at least fifteen heavy howitzers and a tank battalion stood ready just inside China’s borders, ensuring that the fight outside the country was just a delay for troop assembly within. As long as they could keep the enemy outside the national borders, their goal was achieved.
After flying for ten minutes in Chinese airspace, Lin Mo began to change direction and said to his wingman, “It was a pleasure cooperating today. I hope we can work together more in the future!”
“Pleasure cooperating!” The wingman, Azure Wolf, was evidently a man of few words as he maneuvered the J-10B into another direction.
Due to confidentiality regulations, their conversations were no longer as frequent as during the battle.
Under the cover of clouds, Lin Mo’s J-10A dove into a grassy valley runway, sending up a cloud of smoke as the tires screeched while slowing down, gradually reaching the parking area.
The trip took just over half an hour, accounting for only a quarter of the entire battle. Lin Mo and the others achieved a good result in their coordinated operation.
Jumping out of the plane, Lin Mo greeted his Aircrew Group colleagues, taking a swig from a bottle of mineral water. The aerial combat drained his energy like running a thousand meters.
“Has the leader arrived?!” Lin Mo saw Old Pan rushing over in an electric troop transport vehicle from the hangar direction.
Old Pan’s scar looked like it had broken into a dance, his face beaming with joy. “General He just arrived! He was in the command hall watching you, Team Two, and those guys from ‘Hidden Dragon’ in action. Haha, he even gave us a thumbs up!” He gestured with his thumb, his joyful demeanor reveal that the Aircrew Group was shining again.
In the past, the support crew had always been insulated from the battlefield. No matter how fierce the fighting got, they only provided fire diversion or assisted in deploying special operations teams. They never imagined they would become the main force on the battlefield like now.
“By the way, there’s more good news!” Old Pan suddenly pulled Lin Mo onto the electric troop transport and whispered, “You’re up to something big! Someone even sent over two big boxes for you. Don’t tell me they are two coffins!”
“Coffins?!” Lin Mo was baffled as to why Old Pan would use such an inauspicious term to describe the shipped goods. Could it be that they received some more parts from the factory recently?!
