Chapter 146: Unfortunately, He Missed!

At least in the wilderness, Lin Mo didn’t worry about survival. It wasn’t his first time; it had been much tougher when he was in the desert of Kazakhstan.

As the sky began to lighten, Lin Mo heard faint rumbling thunder in the sky. He suddenly opened his eyes. After flying fighter jets, every time he heard such booming sounds, he subconsciously thought it was the roar of engines, not the thunder before the rain.

Today promised to be a sunny day, with the rising sun already giving off a hot heat.

Who knows where he was in this unknown vast wilderness? A small black dot in the sky was gliding across the horizon, leaving a thin white trail behind. Lin Mo took out his radar reflector, prepared to ignite a smoke stick, when unexpectedly he automatically unleashed a Light Mirror Technique. A translucent, plate-sized light mirror rippled slightly before stabilizing, clearly reflecting the distant little black dot.

An F-22 Raptor? Lin Mo recognized the model of the aircraft in the sky.

How could an F-22 be here? Few African nations could afford such expensive American fighter jets, and Lin Mo had never heard of the Americans selling F-22s to Africa.

Confusion filled Lin Mo’s mind, but he put down the smoke stick. The Americans, who acted as global police, weren’t known for their willingness to help; they might even fire a rocket his way for free.

He quickly packed up his survival backpack, gathering what he could use, and swiftly left the landing spot. Following the direction of the compass, he headed south. The GPS coordinates from Gold Coin showed he had been blown over four hundred kilometers by the tornado and was now within the borders of the Democratic Republic of the Congo.

What bad luck! After just shooting down two enemy fighters, he had landed right in their territory.

This was definitely a serious predicament, and Lin Mo had no intention of being captured. The Chinese Air Force pilots still maintained a record of zero captures to date.

He couldn’t allow himself to be the first one to break that record; such a tarnishing event couldn’t happen. Even the dignity of the Dragon Knight wouldn’t allow him to be caught by others.

It looked like it was time to fight again.

Lin Mo sneered, adjusted his backpack, and began running across the wilderness. He kept his load-bearing suit on; the dangers in Africa weren’t just from wild beasts but also from various parasites and unknown toxins. The load-bearing suit was sufficient to handle some of these unseen threats. He put on his sunglasses to protect his eyes from the blazing sun and relied solely on his legs to march southward.

After running for over ten kilometers, Lin Mo spotted an abandoned village, desolate and seemingly devoid of life. The dilapidated grass huts showed signs of having been burned, clearly victims of past conflicts.

Lin Mo found a well in the village, transformed Gold Coin into a water bucket, and drew up a bucket of water. He dropped a test strip into it and found that it was only slightly contaminated. Using his filtration device, he filtered the well water, added purification tablets—it had a bit of an unpleasant taste, but it was drinkable.

Finding no information about the area in the village, Lin Mo continued south. However, after less than five kilometers, he had to stop. A sturdy barbed wire fence blocked his path. Looking around, he saw that the fenced area was vast, with signs that read “Damarli Animal Sanctuary” in English, warning of wild beasts and prohibiting climbing or poaching.

Wild beasts?

Could they be more ferocious than dragons?

The answer was obvious.

Lin Mo took a few steps back, gained some speed, and lightly tapped the wire with his toes. He leaped over the nearly five-meter-tall barbed wire fence in a graceful somersault.

He had no interest in taking a detour of several dozen kilometers.

After entering the sanctuary, it wasn’t long before Lin Mo’s sharp eyesight caught sight of a group of armed black soldiers approaching in two jeeps. It seemed they were pointing in his direction, and someone in the vehicle was looking through binoculars in his direction.

This wasn’t the high ground; normal humans equipped with high-powered binoculars could match the eyesight of a Dragon Knight. Humans excel at using tools to enhance their natural advantages over others or creatures.

Lin Mo slowed his pace, almost at the same time the group seemed to have noticed him. The soldiers in the jeeps waved their hands, clearly shouting loudly, and the guns on the vehicles quickly turned toward Lin Mo. The two jeeps accelerated toward him, heading straight for him.

It was evident they weren’t coming to invite him for coffee; if he didn’t act quickly, he might not save himself.

Lin Mo looked around and noticed a nearby thicket, with a dozen lush trees growing inside. There seemed to be a few mounds in the middle, which was better than the open grassland.

Perhaps satellites were watching closely from above, so Lin Mo dared not reveal the gold giant dragon in broad daylight. The various surveillance devices in this world were utterly inescapable and seemed to be everywhere.

Just as Lin Mo hid behind a sturdy tree, a barrage of bullets pelted the ground where he had just stood, sending up clouds of dust and grass.

As expected, they immediately opened fire without a word, clearly intending to eliminate Lin Mo right then and there. The soldiers leaped from their jeeps, forming a loose line to surround the thicket.

Lin Mo glanced and noticed they were all armed with AK-47s, 7.62 caliber. While their aim might not be precise, their firepower was substantial; getting hit by one would be quite serious.

From the shooting, it looked like they were seasoned veterans, veterans who knew how to spread their fire effectively. If Lin Mo hadn’t been quick on his feet, he would likely have gotten hit.

Bullets struck the tree bark, sending wood chips flying; it seemed they could penetrate the trunk at any moment. Lin Mo didn’t dare hide behind the dirt mounds. When he dashed into the thicket, he realized they were not mounds at all but termite mounds, filled with a labyrinth of red ants. They couldn’t even provide cover against bullets.

Taking advantage of pauses between bursts of gunfire, Lin Mo quickly darted between a few trees in the thicket, moving rapidly to avoid the bullets. The black soldiers slowly tightened their encirclement, maintaining their firepower suppression, seemingly intent on reducing Lin Mo’s freedom of movement.

He peeked out from behind one tree and quickly ducked back. Estimating the distance, he figured it was about fifty meters away, and in a swift move, he rolled forward while lifting his hand, firing three shots.

Caught off guard, three soldiers stumbled and fell, as they stepped right into Lin Mo’s firing range. He had only six bullets and had to conserve them.

Thank goodness the Zambians were equipped with the Type 54 pistol, which packed a serious punch. One shot for one hit, striking straight for their hearts. In action, Lin Mo couldn’t guarantee hitting their heads with perfect accuracy, but at least the larger torso was easier to target.

The black soldiers collapsed rapidly; they had underestimated Lin Mo’s counterattack capabilities, thinking he was unarmed since he was dodging. Little did they know he was just waiting for them to come within range.

Lin Mo raised his hand and fired again, hitting another soldier in the forehead. Blood erupted from a deep hole in his skull, and he crumpled lifelessly.

Suddenly, a smoke grenade flew over. Lin Mo jumped up, executing a flying kick to send it back. Boom! The explosion knocked him off balance as he landed.

Who were these guys? They charged in without a word, intending to kill. Lin Mo no longer wanted to explain; there was no point in discussing morality. He just wanted to eliminate them as quickly as possible.

Damn it, if only the thicket were denser!

Lin Mo’s caution was well-founded.

Just as he had feared, overhead a military satellite was zooming in on the ground, capturing the battle between Lin Mo and the soldiers without missing a beat, relaying it to a secret location.

Lin Mo kicked the thrown grenade back, injuring two soldiers, but he wasn’t so lucky the next time; the now-aware soldiers counted to two before throwing, causing grenades to explode in mid-air, posing a severe threat to Lin Mo. He had to dart around like a monkey in the sparse forest, quickly dodging the shrapnel from the explosions.

Whenever a stray shard came dangerously close, his gold giant dragon transformed into a small wrist shield to protect him. Fighter pilots couldn’t afford any injuries.

Each battle was unique and one of a kind; every tactic was unrepeatable. Lin Mo’s situation was exactly like that; he could evade bullets from a single pistol, but being caught in a sweeping fire from a group armed with AKs would quickly leave him like a hornet’s nest.

Even though he wanted Gold Coin to transform into the perfect Dragon Slayer sword to eliminate these guys, the restrictions imposed by this world were far too numerous. The previous lessons from Gold Coin made it clear; revealing his unique abilities would bring him significant trouble—permanent and serious trouble.

Taking advantage of the moment, Lin Mo took down another soldier. He quickly counted; there were five left, but only one bullet remained in his pistol. The bullets in his survival pack were purely for self-defense and had never been meant for combat. Otherwise, he would have brought an AK with him; it was hard to imagine fitting so many unrelated weapons into a cramped cockpit.

Grinding his teeth, Lin Mo leaped and threw his pilot parachute knife straight into the forehead of the nearest soldier. The sharp 430 stainless steel blade pierced through his skull, freezing the soldier’s movements as if he were hit by a paralysis spell. At the same time, Lin Mo fired a shot at another soldier, who had been aiming at him. A flurry of bullets zipped past Lin Mo.

Unfortunately, he missed!
