Chapter 126: Everyone Rushes for the J-10

“How could you not know about such a big deal?! Oh my gosh! Did you travel through time or something? The whole world knows, and you’re the only one left in the dark?!” Captain Pan was completely defeated by Lin Mo, covering his eyes and making an exaggerated gesture.

Time travel seemed to have happened more than six months ago.

Lin Mo blinked innocently, realizing he had forgotten to check if there was any bonus promised by Chen Haiqing in his bank card. For a pilot in the Special Operations Team, money was really just a numerical concept, as their welfare was so good that there was hardly anywhere to spend it.

Seeing that Captain Pan truly looked like someone who was unaware, he raised his hands in surrender and said, “I’m really at a loss for words with you. Fine, here’s the deal: because your J-10A made such a splash, it stunned the Egyptian procurement delegation. Originally, our country planned to engage in a price war with the cheap FC-1 Xialong, but thanks to you stirring things up, not a single Xialong can be sold anymore. Now everyone is rushing for the J-10. They’re negotiating prices and packages with the higher-ups these days. To be honest, how did you manage that? CCTV even broadcasted it! I thought your plane had crashed! Now the whole country knows about the pilot called ‘Gold Coin.’”

Seeing Lin Mo had changed the paint scheme of his J-10, Captain Pan realized that the kid wasn’t foolish; he understood the importance of camouflage. If he brazenly used the original paint, it would expose his target directly.

The return route given to Lin Mo was winding and complicated, with other J-10s providing cover along the way. Even if any military satellites from other nations were in the sky, they wouldn’t find out Lin Mo’s actual path. Although this method was time-consuming and costly, being cautious would minimize big mistakes.

“If I had known the higher-ups were going to go after the Xialong, I would have flown the Xialong for a show,” Lin Mo grinned. He had disrupted their plans, and he wondered if he would face any reprimands for it. That would be too unfair—achieving military honors while receiving punishment!

“Don’t act all innocent. You probably won’t have any major missions for a while. The top must take some time to handle your mess, and a few pilots will likely have their flight codes temporarily changed to help cover for you under the name ‘Gold Coin,’” Captain Pan replied. His tone was a bit smug, suggesting that his intelligence access was significant. “This time, I really made the right recommendation for you to Zhuhai. My judgment is sharp! I wonder if they’ll give me any sort of award for it. A few billion dollars in orders can definitely translate into military honors.”

Suddenly, multiple pilots in China claimed to be ‘Gold Coin.’ The foreign military, using electronic reconnaissance equipment to compare and distinguish Chinese pilots’ identities, would likely have a headache for a long time.

Lin Mo dismissed Captain Pan’s periodic narcissism, although he had mixed feelings. The downside was that fewer missions meant fewer opportunities to take to the skies. Given the secrecy of the base airport, Lin Mo couldn’t just fly whenever he wanted. His opportunities to take off were carefully arranged, which limited his chances. The upside was the ample leisure time he had to learn aircraft design from Uncle Yan, greatly aiding his mastery of the world’s strongest aerial weaponry.

“Right, I’ll use this time to study hard. By the way, I need to perform some maintenance on my beloved aircraft. I have some new ideas!” Lin Mo decided to stop bantering with Captain Pan and walked toward the hangar, needing to traverse the 15-kilometer underground tunnel to report.

“Hey Lin, I heard the Twin Stars from Old Xie’s team are back. You should be careful,” Captain Pan warned. He already knew that his subordinates and the Intelligence Group had conflicts, but he was unaware that the Twin Star sisters had set a trap for Lin Mo. Unfortunately, they failed, giving Lin Mo the chance to shine instead, or else Captain Pan would have exploded with frustration.

Twin Stars?! The mischievous pair that intended to tease him. Lin Mo chuckled to himself. “Water rises, and soil blocks it; soldiers contest when enemies come.” After all the fierce battles he had been through, he wouldn’t fear two women—what a joke!

In the 15-kilometer tunnel, traffic was sparse and absent of red lights, allowing Lin Mo to pedal his bicycle at remarkable speed.

Returning to his long-unvisited single dorm room, Lin Mo noticed that a thin layer of dust had settled due to it being unoccupied for so long. He tidied up a bit before heading to the cafeteria for lunch.

At lunchtime, Lin Mo joined the others, carrying a tray to choose his favorite dishes, along with a bowl of pulled noodles.

Finding an empty table, he sat down. The cafeteria was spacious, clearly designed to accommodate thousands of diners. Even with everyone from the “Night” unit dining in together, it wouldn’t seem crowded.

As he just settled in, two trays piled high with food crashed down on the empty space across from him.

Lin Mo raised his eyes. What a narrow road for enemies to cross!

Two identical youthful faces, both as delicate and smooth as jade, both charmingly cute, appeared before him. If it weren’t for one maintaining her calm demeanor while the other puffed her cheeks and glared at Lin Mo, he might not have distinguished which was the sister and which was the younger sibling.

“Captain Lin, we want to apologize for our last mission! We’re truly sorry!”

The older sister, Li Muxin, spoke in her usual unflustered tone, as if recounting a mundane matter without hinting at any emotion.

“Hmph! Ugh…” The younger sister, Li Muling, seemed poised to say something but abruptly frowned and huffed, and Lin Mo sensed the older sister had stepped on her foot.

Lin Mo said nothing and completely ignored the two, focusing on his food.

The table maintained a bizarre silence, the older sister steadily watching Lin Mo eat, while the younger sister chewed fiercely, as though she harbored a vendetta against the food—each bite was more like an attack against Lin Mo.

As more diners entered the cafeteria, an inexplicable blank area formed around Lin Mo and the twin sisters. Strangely, no one came near them.

Everyone in the “Night” unit knew that this pair from the Intelligence Group was practically untouchable, yet here was a reckless young pilot from the Aircrew Group pushing his luck.

Poor Lin Mo, facing more than his fair share of troubles—may Marx and Lenin protect him!

Lin Mo ate rapidly, a habit he’d developed from growing up in another world. If he didn’t quickly consume his food, someone might snatch it away. Only what was in his stomach felt safe. His appetite was also quite large, nearly the equivalent of two people’s worth. Now that his duty was just pilot flying without the mystic steel armor and swinging the heavy Dragon Slayer sword, he wouldn’t expend much energy. Plus, he was eating highly nutritious, high-energy food, which helped him maintain such a large appetite without seeming excessive.

“Thanks for last time!” Li Muxin suddenly spoke up. Both she and Lin Mo understood perfectly what her gratitude pertained to.

During their last mission, not only had they failed to assist Lin Mo, but they had also relied on him to help them break through an obstacle, creating a debt of favor.

“There won’t be a next time!” Lin Mo frowned, setting down his chopsticks. He knew dealing with clever women could be tough. After one experience, there would be no second chance, and he found it too lazy to keep track.

Lin Mo cleaned his tray, wiped his mouth, and stood to leave, vowing to cherish his life and keep away from the twins—that was his conclusion. Otherwise, he would eventually end up at the mercy of these two intellectually formidable sisters.

“Look at this guy! How arrogant can he be? I told you! Why did we even bother apologizing? He didn’t even glance at us! What a cocky attitude! Just wait; I’ll make him look foolish,” the younger sister, Li Muling, complained, her pale fist thumping angrily on the table.

“Eat your food!” Lin Mo’s disregard didn’t provoke any reaction from Li Muxin. She calmly and peacefully started enjoying her meal.

Fuming, Li Muling bit down hard, her eyes darting around as she plotted revenge. The last time, not only had they failed to embarrass Lin Mo, but he had also ended up taking credit for himself; she needed to find a way to make him embarrass himself this time.

On the matter of Lin Mo, the twin sisters, who had always acted in sync, found themselves at odds for the first time.

At an altitude of four thousand meters, an aerial long-range camera was mounted beneath the fuselage of the J-10. Lin Mo activated the Light Mirror Technique inside the cockpit to observe the third squadron executing a mission in a small village below.

In the early morning, a gang of criminals had hijacked a armored truck, holding hostages and trapping themselves in the village. Lin Mo could see the local armed police springing into action and surrounding the area, creating a cordon. From above, the people evacuating the village and the onlookers gathered outside formed a dense crowd of dark heads, gathered in a circle.

The criminals’ vehicle ran out of fuel and was completely surrounded by the Special Operations Team. A negotiation expert worked tirelessly to persuade them. The third squadron from “Night” was known for carrying out the most dangerous assault missions, renowned for their fierce combat abilities. They were among the divisions of “Night” that endured a high casualty rate. Every veteran who survived the battlefield was a true elite.

Most ordinary citizens wouldn’t recognize these individuals donned in POLICE insignia, wearing black bulletproof vests, and black helmets—faces concealed behind masks, making their identities unrecognizable. Most thought they were elite armed police or special forces but never suspected they were members of an elite covert unit.

Lin Mo’s task was to record the entire operation from the air, documenting the action from beginning to end.

The camera pod included not only optical recording capabilities but also infrared functions, providing an elevated perspective for the operation. Lin Mo could hear clear dialogue from the temporary command center through his headset.
