Chapter 297: The Chaotic Place (Part 2)
Thud!
The despicable little thief crashed heavily to the ground, blood oozing from his mouth and nose.
His hands were completely twisted, with who knows how many bones broken.
He lost consciousness the moment he hit the ground.
At the same time, two gleaming daggers shot towards Wang Chen’s back and side!
Though both boys were mere mortals, their strikes were swift and vicious, executed with remarkable precision.
In close-range surprise attacks, a Qi Training cultivator could be killed by ordinary people if they lacked magical armor or protective artifacts.
Wang Chen wore no magic armor.
Nor did he carry any artifacts that could automatically shield him.
But if he were injured by such a sneak attack, it would be a colossal joke!
The two daggers halted within three inches of Wang Chen.
No matter how hard the boys strained, their faces reddening and contorted with effort, they couldn’t push their weapons forward even a fraction.
When the boys realized they had hit a wall, Wang Chen’s robe sleeve lashed out at them.
Thud! Thud!
The five boys surrounding Wang Chen were sent flying four or five yards away.
Some crashed into others, while others were blocked by building walls, howling as they tumbled to the ground.
Yet these few were still fortunate.
The dark-faced boy who attempted to ambush Wang Chen and his companion landed twisted and deformed, their eyes bulging and mouths agape, already dead beyond saving.
Wang Chen always adhered to the principle of an eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth. If he hadn’t possessed formidable strength, he would be the one lying on the ground now.
Since they sought his life, Wang Chen would naturally deliver a proportionate response!
“Murder!”
One boy, spitting blood, shouted at the top of his lungs, “The Immortal Master has killed someone! Help!”
As he yelled, he began to distance himself from Wang Chen, quite cunningly.
Wang Chen’s gaze flickered as he prepared to strike again and send this boy to reunite with his companions.
Suddenly, a dozen cultivators appeared around him!
A burly cultivator with a thick beard said in a deep voice, “These children were merely playing a joke on you. You are so ruthless; do you not fear retribution?”
The other cultivators remained silent, encircling Wang Chen tightly.
They stared at Wang Chen with eyes like wolves fixating on prey!
“Oh, my grandson!”
An elderly man, with hair as white as snow, collapsed over the dark-faced boy’s corpse, wailing, “Heaven has no eyes! Such a good child was killed! Where is justice!”
Those who were unaware of the truth felt a surge of righteous indignation!
The burly cultivator glared at Wang Chen, declaring, “If you don’t give us an explanation today, you won’t be leaving Xian City!”
Wang Chen smiled.
He realized he had made yet another mistake.
To rectify this, Wang Chen dispelled the Spirit Concealment Technique he had been maintaining.
A powerful surge of Magical Energy instantly radiated in all directions.
Wang Chen’s cultivation level was now fully exposed.
“Purple Palace!”
One of the cultivators exclaimed, his face turning ashen.
The dozen or so cultivators surrounding Wang Chen instinctively stepped back, their faces drenched in sweat.
The strongest among them was only a fifth-level Qi Trainer, while most were at the third or fourth realm. They had relied on their numbers to intimidate a high-level Qi Training cultivator, but facing a Purple Palace master rendered their advantage utterly meaningless.
It was no longer a matter of whether they would let Wang Chen go; it was whether Wang Chen would spare them!
The burly cultivator, who had taken the lead, was no more composed than his companions.
His legs trembled as he stammered, “It’s a misunderstanding, just a misunderstanding.”
Unfortunately, his voice wavered, lacking any conviction.
“A misunderstanding?”
Wang Chen chuckled. “You’re demanding an explanation from me. How could it possibly be a misunderstanding?”
The burly cultivator forced a grimace that looked more like a grimace than a smile, then suddenly began slapping his own face with his large, fan-like hands.
Smack! Smack! Smack!
The sharp, resounding slaps grew louder with each strike!
In an instant, the face of this sixth-level Qi Trainer swelled up grotesquely, turning red and puffy, looking utterly bizarre.
This man certainly knew how to deliver a harsh punishment.
Wang Chen watched as the cultivator struck himself repeatedly, delivering around thirty slaps, before finally asking, “What’s your name?”
“Gu, Gu Hongzhao,”
the burly cultivator replied with a pained expression. “Senior, I was truly mistaken.”
His gravest error had been severely underestimating Wang Chen’s cultivation level.
He had thought that gathering a dozen or so men would be enough to easily overpower Wang Chen and strip him of his possessions.
Gu Hongzhao had employed such tactics many times before.
But as the saying goes, walk too many dark paths, and you’re bound to meet a ghost!
“I won’t make things difficult for you,”
Wang Chen said. “But I have some questions for you, and I expect honest answers.”
Gu Hongzhao immediately felt as if he had been granted a reprieve. “No problem, no problem! I’ll tell you everything I know, I swear! If I lie, may the heavens strike me with lightning and reduce me to ashes!”
Boom!
As soon as he finished speaking, a thunderous roar echoed from the darkening sky!
Gu Hongzhao nearly fainted from fright. “I-I…”
“Don’t speak for now,”
Wang Chen waved his hand dismissively. “Let’s go to the best inn in the city.”
Killing the man would have been effortless; Wang Chen didn’t even need his flying sword—a single finger would suffice.
But there was no point in doing so.
Instead, keeping him alive might yield useful information.
The recent confrontation had made Wang Chen realize that in Xian City, hiding his true cultivation level was unnecessary—it might even invite trouble.
If he had revealed his Purple Palace level earlier, would those manipulated youths have seen him as an easy target?
The answer was undoubtedly no!
Upon arriving at the inn, Wang Chen took a seat with Gu Hongzhao in a quiet corner.
Gu Hongzhao answered Wang Chen’s questions in detail and with accuracy, sharing everything he knew.
For what he didn’t know, he dared not fabricate answers.
Even so, Wang Chen gained a preliminary understanding of the situation in Xian City.
As for Yulong Mountain, Gu Hongzhao had never ventured inside and could only speak in vague terms.
It was then that Wang Chen realized he had made another mistake—one that should have been his top priority.
Crossing Yulong Mountain required careful timing; entering during winter was absolutely out of the question, as it was far too perilous.
Yulong Mountain, spanning Three Thousand Miles, had claimed the lives of countless cultivators!
Now, it was already late autumn. Though not yet winter, it was still not the ideal time to venture into the mountains.
Having missed the optimal season, Wang Chen would have to remain in Xian City for some time. His plan now was to wait until spring, when the flowers bloomed, before attempting to enter Yulong Mountain.
Feeling that he had extracted all the information he could, Wang Chen finally released Gu Hongzhao.
As for what to do next, he already had a clear plan in mind!
