Chapter 15: Killing
This won’t do.
Back at home, Wang Chen once again summoned the Cultivation Panel and stared at the Virtue section for a long time.
He confirmed that the number displayed wouldn’t change, and with a sigh of regret, he closed it.
The kindness he showed to Lady Chen was absolutely not because he found the beautiful widow attractive.
Aside from sharing similar hardships, Wang Chen mainly wanted to see if doing good deeds could earn him some Virtue points.
After all, relying solely on killing monsterized land rhinoceroses was too limited.
It turned out that this approach was not viable.
Wang Chen wasn’t too disappointed about it, nor did he feel he had lost out.
“Squeak squeak!”
A big white mouse leaped onto the table and bowed to him, raising its paws.
Wang Chen reached out and gently petted it twice, “Little White, don’t worry, I’ll make dinner right away.”
These days, Little White and her partner had been coming to share meals every day.
Wang Chen had become quite familiar with them.
The days of cultivation were monotonous.
With these two intelligent spirit mice around, life undoubtedly gained a splash of color.
So even though the golden-haired mouse hadn’t brought any spirit stones since that day, he didn’t mind.
“Squeak squeak!”
The big white mouse flicked its tail, its voice full of joy.
Wang Chen looked around, “Where’s your husband?”
For the past few days, the two spirit mice had been inseparable and affectionate, showering Wang Chen with plenty of companionship.
The big white mouse shook its head.
Wang Chen, puzzled, didn’t think much of it and went to the kitchen to prepare dinner.
Dinner was still the same Gao San-style meal.
While eating, the golden-haired mouse still hadn’t shown up.
Wang Chen molded a rice ball from the leftover food and asked Little White to take it home.
The mouse hole was right behind the wood pile in the corner of the kitchen.
The original owner had lived here for five years and never discovered this.
It seems that these spirit mice had just moved in.
After filling his stomach, Wang Chen went to the quiet room and began his routine cultivation.
The Five Element Technique circulated through his twelve meridians, and his dantian’s power became abundant.
However, there was no progress in his cultivation level.
【Technique: Five Element Technique (Third Level): 299/300】
Looking at the unchanging data on the Cultivation Panel, Wang Chen couldn’t help but sigh.
With his current poor root bone and understanding, it should be no problem to break through this bottleneck with persistent effort.
But who knows how long that will take!
Wang Chen’s biggest problem now was that his skill level was rising rapidly, while his cultivation level couldn’t keep up.
The two were disconnected.
This led to him being unable to fully unleash the destructive power of the great achievement level of the Metal Finger Technique.
He had to be cautious when dealing with land rhinoceroses to avoid causing excessive damage to his meridians.
To solve this issue, obtaining Heavenly Merit for fate alteration was undoubtedly Wang Chen’s best choice.
However, he had no idea how to acquire Heavenly Merit at all!
Thinking about it made his head ache, so Wang Chen decided to stop thinking and went to bed.
He closed his eyes, relaxed his body, and soon fell into a deep sleep.
“Doggie!”
A sweet voice with a hint of charm suddenly woke Wang Chen.
He turned his head to look.
To his astonishment, he found himself sitting on a park bench.
Flowers bloomed all around, and a pleasant fragrance filled the air.
Next to him sat a charming and lovely girl.
Wang Chen was stunned.
The girl’s face was so familiar.
It was clearly his first love from college!
“Doggie, are you out of your mind?”
His first love giggled and stuck out her tongue at Wang Chen. “Silly dog.”
Overcome with emotion, Wang Chen reached out, longing to caress her face.
They had been in love for four years.
Yet, like many college sweethearts, they parted ways after graduation, driven apart by the harsh realities of life.
Even after his unexpected journey through time, Wang Chen had not seen her again.
He had heard she had gone abroad.
Many times, Wang Chen had dreamed of her.
His first love laughed, playfully evading Wang Chen’s wandering hand.
She nestled her head on Wang Chen’s shoulder and whispered, “Doggie, you must take good care of yourself.”
Then, she gently nibbled on Wang Chen’s earlobe.
Wang Chen felt as if his soul had left his body.
He wished time would stand still in that perfect moment.
But soon, Wang Chen sensed something was amiss.
Why was her bite growing stronger, and why was his ear throbbing with pain?
The sharp pain jolted Wang Chen awake.
He struggled to open his eyes and tried to rise.
But every part of his body felt as heavy as lead, immovable and unresponsive.
A sweet, intoxicating scent filled Wang Chen’s nostrils.
It clouded his mind, making him feel dizzy.
He heard faint squeaking sounds nearby.
And there was a soft, furry touch.
It was Little White!
“Creak~”
At that moment, the locked door creaked open.
Wang Chen strained to turn his head.
A man dressed in black stepped into the room.
In his hand, he held a dagger that gleamed with a cold, menacing light.
Though Wang Chen couldn’t make out the man’s face in the darkness,
the malevolence and killing intent radiating from him sent a chill through Wang Chen’s bones, as if he had been plunged into an icy abyss.
The man was here to kill him!
No!
Wang Chen’s heart let out a silent roar.
He didn’t want to die.
He didn’t want to be killed without understanding anything!!
But at that moment, Wang Chen could not move; his meridians and the power in his dantian felt as if they had frozen.
What should he do?
Little White, by his ear, seemed to hear his thoughts.
She bit down hard again.
Pain! Pain! Pain!
The intense pain suddenly jolted Wang Chen awake.
The stagnant power surged to life.
Without any thought, purely instinctively, Wang Chen flicked his right hand’s index and middle fingers.
He brought them together to form a sword finger!
In an instant, an extremely sharp Metal Finger energy shot out.
The dim room suddenly brightened, a dazzling arc of light streaked through the air and struck the black-clad man’s left temple.
In the moment the energy touched him, a clear, bright spiritual light suddenly erupted from his body.
However, the Metal Finger energy broke through this layer of Protection without hesitation, piercing through the black-clad man’s head and emerging from his right temple!
The black-clad man shook violently.
A look of disbelief appeared in his eyes, and his face quickly twisted.
His throat made a gurgling sound, as if he wanted to say something.
But after a moment of stiff silence, the dagger clattered to the ground.
He collapsed onto the floor.
Dead.
“Cough cough!”
Lying on the bed, Wang Chen let out a sigh, then couldn’t help but cough hard.
Blood came out of his mouth and nose.
His right-hand fingers were already torn and bleeding!
After exerting all his strength to kill the intruder, Wang Chen’s consciousness quickly became blurred again.
He fell back into a deep sleep.
He didn’t even notice the message prompts appearing in his vision.
…
Dong~
The deep, distant sound of a bell awakened the person sleeping in bed.
It was the hour of the rabbit.
Wang Chen blinked, his eyes dazed as he stared at the ceiling.
His memories gradually returned to his mind.
"I’m not dead?"
Wang Chen raised his right hand, seeing his bloodstained and painfully throbbing fingers.
Finally awake.
He struggled to sit up from the bed.
Then he noticed the body lying on the floor of the room and the open door.
This wasn’t a dream!
The intruder lay face down, a pool of dried blood spreading beneath his head.
There were also pieces of grayish-white brain matter mixed in.
The air was thick with the smell of blood.
"I killed someone," Wang Chen thought.
